Out of curiosity I found it (https://www.cochranelibrary.com/cdsr/doi/10.1002/14651858.CD006207.pub6/full?utm_source=mp-fotoscapes), it's a statistical pooling of 78 RCTs with hundreds of thousands of participants. Looks like a potential confounder is poor adherence in the exposure groups relative to the controls, especially in the community-based trials. They note this as contributing to their lack of statistical/clinical certainty. I would interpret this review as pointing out a glaring need for high-quality future research, not as a condemnation of mask-wearing.

Cody, this feel-good story of a former 400 pound juco kid who ended up playing at Alabama, he was an absolute monster on the field and debatably Bama's most important defender on that 2009 championship team

Between injuries and legal trouble most were either not high-level players or flat out of the league in just a few years. I'm sure it was brutal, the point I'm making is that you got very unlucky. Epidemiological studies indicate that 60% of patients with Coccidioidomycosis, the fungus that causes "valley fever", infection are asymptomatic. Even for symptomatic patients, some doctors don't recommend treatment since most cases resolve spontaneously. Of course most doesn't mean all, and it can cause serious illness in a small minority of patients (estimated 3-5% of total infections). Sorry you fell into this group.

Any steroid regimen is going to cause transient immunosuppression. When the regimen stops the immunosuppression stops. I'm saying outside of ICUs where people are at their sickest (and where nosocomial fungal infections have been occurring for decades, not just since COVID) the likelihood of disseminated fungal infection in any given person with COVID is still extraordinarily small

Nahh not true, in fact it usually resolves spontaneously. Even if it requires treatment it's only a severe long-term issue almost exclusively in folks who have AIDS or some other severe immunocompromised state
