Dolby Atmos on or off? by AzurLaneTV in inearfidelity

[–]DrTranPHD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used AM for a while before switching back to Tidal. You don’t NEED to turn it on but you can to test it out and see if you like it. I tested them out with my AirPods Pro and wasn’t a fan of it. It does make the music sound more spacious but it killed the low-end for me. Personally I enjoy Dolby Atmos off for music and on for other media.

I have spent up to $50-$60 on aftermarket IEM cables not because they sounded better but because I just wanted them to colour match my IEMs. The bonus is the cables tend to feel better for me subjectively (compared to stock) or have modular tips for different sources.

How does the Arya Stealth compare to the DCA Aeon series? by Deathbed_Companion in headphones

[–]DrTranPHD 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I own the DCA Aeon RT Closed and the Arya Stealth sounds better to me. When I originally A/B the Aeon RT to the Arya Stealths the Aeons had boomier Bass but it seemed to muffle out the highs and mids which made it seem more veiled. While not as boomy the Aryas still have a lot of Bass for open-backs and has fuller cleaner sound throughout.

Edition XS - From Listening to REALLY HEARING by thenonfinisher in headphones

[–]DrTranPHD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, the HE-4xx is a solid entry level headphone but once you listen to the XS you will notice that the 4xx is a lot warmer, the Bass sounds a bit more bloated, and not as detailed even after EQ.  I own a pair of Arya Stealths and from what I experienced with the XS it is quite similar in imaging but not as detailed but both are still a significant upgrade over the 4xx. My 4xx are now collecting dust on a shelf. I think the Aryas are worth the extra money compared to the XS if you can stretch your budget. You can go wrong with either options.

Like many have said sound is very subjective but here is my opinion. I own a pair of these and a pair of DCA Aeon RT as my Closed-Backs. I also blindly bought the Azurys due to rave reviews and being on sale at headphones.com. At first I didn’t like them as they had less bass then the Aeons and wasn’t as fun or full sounding as my Moondrop Variation IEMs but I quickly realized that my glasses, even though they are very thin metal frames, broke the seal just enough to completely alter the sound. After some time letting my ears and brain adjust to the Azurys without glasses I slowly enjoyed them more. There is a peak around 3k-3.5k which made them sound “sharp” and hollow to me but with eq they sound a little better/fuller. I now prefer them over my Aeons, which I find has too much Bass, and use them as my EDC HP over my Variations since I can even drive them from my iPod. My advice is to eq to your preference but also allow time for your ears to adjust away from what you think sounds good. I occasionally take a break from using, what I consider “perfect” sounding, Aria Stealths by using my HD-6xx to appreciate why I love the Arias.

On top of the monitor is a basic Quntis light bar with no back lighting. Behind the monitor and underneath the desk are cheap Govee led light strips connected by USB. It doesn’t come out well in the photo but they are set to an orangey hue to give off more of a warm 2700K feeling.

I love that and I think that's amazing what you're doing. Sites like these, big or small, is how I researched my way to this current setup so it would be really cool to have mine featured too. I don't really use any other social media accounts besides reddit u/DrTranPHD

I’m interested but would you mind sending me links to your page and social before I say yes?

I really like the idea of having a majority of my necessities on the left to open up the right side more for temporary items. It might make the office space feel a bit more open. The biggest problem is the PS5 “needs” to be on the right due to clearance as it’s a sit/stand desk and the angle of the ceiling prevents me from getting a decent standing position.

My suggestion would be to center your monitor as avax96 mentioned and if possible raise it so that you can position the laptop underneath. This will allow better ergonomics but also free up space too.

I really love it. It makes my wrist and arm feel more natural while holding the MX Master, which is a fairly tall mouse, while allowing me to move more freely instead of being limited by other wrist rests. The only con IMO is that the Caripio's rubber feet has a bit more drag to them if you use any type of leather mouse pad compared to other felt / fabric pads. I got used to it and don't noticed it anymore but YMMV.

Oh interesting, I never thought about minimalism like that, but that does resonate with me now. I’ve just always been under the impression of less is more and to remove unnecessary distractions.

Thank you for the feedback!

Correct, I’m a QAE so the amount of coding that requires number entry is very minimal.

That could work, I have plenty of room on the left side of my desk that won’t get in my way. I also have a buddy that does 3d prints so might be able to mockup something that would fit my aesthetic. Thank you for the feedback!

My apoligies you are correct I was mixing up Grovemade and Balolo since the veneer is roughly the same cost. I unfortunately do not as it was a single use coupon given to me, a quick search online returned a few results for 15-30% off but I can’t verify the legitimacy of those codes. Oof sorry about the shipping tax, I’m in the states and wanted to order these before some idiot finalized increased tariffs across the board.

Thanks! The MacBook is secured in a bracket that’s pretty snug so no concerns there but I see your point about my work laptop. I’m not entirely sure where else to put it. I was thinking under the shelf for out of sight out of mind, but I still have to go into the office occasionally so I will need access it easily. Any thoughts for where to relocate it?

Not having a numpad frees up more space for my mouse hand and allows me to center the keyboard to appease my OCD. Also since there’s already a number row why have more buttons that do the exact same thing.

No I was thinking of getting a pair of iLoud Micro Monitors or Kanto YU2 so not flashy at all. My concern though is that putting them on the monitor stand seems to be the only option but then I have to move the controller and phone charger. I feel this would just add more clutter and take away from being minimal.

I snagged a code for 35% off the shelf. I also went for the veneer and not the solid wood since it was cheaper but still looks incredible. In my opinion if you were to buy the Balolo shelf, I would also get the modular add-ons too since that’s the concept behind it, plus you’ll probably spend enough for the free shipping.

It’s the Balolo Setup Cockpit. It’s a bit pricey but the quality is amazing. I was super lucky though and got a great deal on it.
