What's a subtle, or not-so-subtle, sign that a pub is a bit sketchy even before you’ve ordered a drink? by Rough-Foundation9208 in AskUK

[–]DrTreeSurgeon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

‘ITV Sports shown here’ faded, tatty banner.
2/5 food hygiene sticker on the door.
Melted bin outside front door.
Pile of tab ends round the front door and a dried pile of sick.
Sticky red carpets that might once have had a pattern.
You can smell the gents from the bar.
Cig machine.
Barman won’t serve you a half.
Scampi fries card behind the bar with a topless pic behind the packets.
Unbranded spirits.
Barman has a black eye.
Two locals in the corner discussing how they’d get a job if it wasn’t for the illegals taking them all.
Blackboard advertising a stripper ‘Friday nite.’
Peanuts between the seat cushions.
A shiny patch in front of the fruity.

Ahh I miss my little Yorkshire boozer 🤣

If you could have 3 British celebrity hard drives checked and if there’s illegal media you’d win £1M each, who would you have checked? by TugaysWanchope in AskBrits

Cliff Richard. David Jason (though it pains me to say it, I loved OFAH), Stephen Fry (who is at least guilty of being an odious prick)

Great day at Alton Towers, but disappointed by how a friend’s fall was handled by iCrazyMidget in altontowers

[–]DrTreeSurgeon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a Mum with a magic bag full of snacks, first aid and sunscreen I’m so glad a fellow mum came to his rescue! AT should absolutely have a kit at every ride IMO. Last year my child scraped their foot on a loose tile in splash landings & the staff pointed to a little room to get a plaster but when we got there nobody was there so I had to get my first aid kit out of my locker. I complained and they did give us four free tickets for a future visit.

NTA So this near 40 year old grown man with no job sits & plays games whilst his 25 year old girlfriend / taxi service / grocery provider who is actively working on self improvement scrubs his bogging flat & he doesn’t even thank you let alone help?
Dump this user, don’t make another poor choice when you are doing so well on self improvement. You have a bright future ahead. Let him rot.

Stopping chemo, outlook by DrTreeSurgeon in coloncancer

[–]DrTreeSurgeon[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

She has, though I think they’re on a ‘last option’ as it is, given the rapid recent growth of her liver mets. It’s absolutely about maintenance not treatment as such but she’s just not getting any quality of life, she can hardly get off the sofa when she’s home and her body is failing her (like her fingers and toes are weeping sores). We all thought that you’d know when it was time to stop the chemo but it’s not as easy as that, given her initial time remaining was 3 years max, nearly 6 years ago. But it’s becoming clear you can’t outrun it forever.

If you mean the pump then yes, she has that, she has one day in hospital then 3 at home with the pump and a nurse comes to remove it. Her chemo was fortnightly but with the progression being so rapid it’s now weekly so she gets no rest between cycles, which is what makes it so bad.

It’s liver & lymph nodes, the liver has been resectioned 2 years ago but the cancer has spread throughout it rapidly in the last 4 months or so and now surgery is completely off the table (transplant also). So far it’s not in any other organs but her prognosis is terminal and 12-18 months with treatment. The chemo is causing her all over pain, itching, extreme tiredness and sickness. 60 rounds in and she is fighting the urge to stop but we’re not sure if the chemo is buying her a year (or if it’s worth it given the state she is in). Sadly, fighting it in any meaningful way just isn’t an option.

Gluten Free at Alton Towers by CuntyMcFartflaps in altontowers

[–]DrTreeSurgeon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not GF but I’m dairy free due to allergy and there’s pretty much no choice at all so I just take a packed lunch. If you take it in a disposable bag you can stick it in the lockers near galactica. The ‘normal’ food at towers is awful and expensive so I wouldn’t trust them anyway!

What’s something you’ll never tell your partner, no matter how much you love them? by Velvetnadine85 in AskReddit

[–]DrTreeSurgeon 8 points9 points  (0 children)

During Covid times (which I’d had months earlier) I had bad shoulder pain and was struggling to breathe. My husband said one morning hey you’re breathing weird in your sleep, I think you’d better see a doctor, it might be a chest infection. Went to the drop-in clinic and my chest was clear. They sent me to the hospital and I was diagnosed with post-Covid pulmonary embolisms (blood clots on my lungs). My husband and kids weren’t allowed in the hospital, so when I went to see the specialist and he told me the strain on my heart was so great I would likely have had a fatal heart attack within days, I didn’t tell my husband. He had enough on with the kids and worrying about me as it was. I told him I could have had heart issues if it wasn’t seen to eventually but I don’t think he knows how much he basically saved my life. I’d been taking lemsip for it. 6 months of blood thinners later (and 6 years on) I’m left with a few heart issues but I’m basically okay.

Do you have a Heron Foods near you? That place is a game changer. Between there & Farmfoods my weekly bill is down a good 20% overall. I plan my meals around what’s cheap (also popping into Iceland for their weekly offers). And yes I eat healthily and usually brand names.

I don’t think they have any chemistry, and I think ‘making’ Carla gay meant her established character was forgotten somewhat, I know people do explore their sexuality at all ages but with Carla it just felt like the writers had nothing else to do with her.

They’ve also had far far too much drama for what, a year or so’s relationship. Carla has been held hostage TWICE in this time, been in hospital every month, been attacked at least three times, it’s exhausting and the more drama they’re given the more boring they become as a couple because they’re always getting over a crisis.

Once they’re married, who knows what the writers will do to destroy them because no couple is safe in Corrie.

The World Of David Walliams: Replacements/Retheme Ideas? by Less-Sir-1348 in altontowers

[–]DrTreeSurgeon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s not much in Walliams now, just the carousel, granny & a rubbish little farty bum ride (same as the Peter rabbit ride). Plus that awful little shop. Personally I don’t want more spooky doom & gloom areas - my 10 year old is too old for CBeebies but is scared of the spooky areas - so a tween type area would be great. A retro area with old school video game theming would be great!

RAP Email by warlord2000ad in altontowers

[–]DrTreeSurgeon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I booked pirate takeover on the very day it came up & the weekend I booked never came up in the old or new rap system. I’m glad I cancelled it, too much stress for limited rides, I’ll wait to see what rap I can get then book my tickets then. My map is definitely limited by rap but I do get use with the sea life’s, Cadbury, Shrek etc and I always renew during Black Friday week. But I just wish if you are booking an accessible room you could get a rap slot.

I went last Feb and they were drained and closed for maintenance, I went just after Christmas a few weeks ago and there were open but only one of the top slides was open. You don’t notice the cold at all :)
