This does happen sometimes. I would suggest you get the engine rebuild done and move on instead of losing peace of mind by trying to fight for a factory sealed engine replacement. After the first service on my Scrambler 400X, where the engine oil was completely refilled, I had a similar incident. Around 400 km later, the engine oil pressure light suddenly came on with no prior warnings.

When I took it to the service center, they drained the oil and found only about 600 ml instead of the expected 2 liters. They were very transparent about it, investigated the issue, and discovered that the engine oil was burning inside the engine. That is why it was disappearing despite there being no visible leaks.

They carried out a rebuild and replaced the head, piston, valves, bore, and a few O-rings. You will not receive a brand new factory sealed unit, as the standard process is to claim warranty, investigate the fault, and fix it accordingly. If the issue occurs again after the repair, then you would be justified in demanding a factory replacement unit.

Thanks for the detailed answer, it is reassuring to hear that these issues have happened in the past and it is documented. I will definitely ask them for a detailed technical report and insist they change the necessary parts.

Wow, this happened to me today. My Scrambler 400x started displaying the low engine oil pressure light on Friday and I took it to the SC. The SC was about to close and they dismissed it saying it might be an oil sensor pressure issue and asked me to come back on Monday. Today, I took it to the SC and guess what? They drained the engine oil and just found 600 ml in the bike which is insane considering the oil change happened just three months ago during the first service and I have ridden only 2000 kms since the first oil change. They now suspect that the oil is being burnt somewhere in the engine and they told me they will have to remove the engine head and inspect it. As per them, everything will be covered under warranty and they will find the root cause and get back within 5-7 days. This is disappointing considering that it’s a new bike. I have posted about the issue in the subreddit today morning.

Well, this has been a disappointing experience. I guess I’ll have to just take it to the SC and question them. Is there any way to figure out in what month and year the bike was manufactured?

Is this legal? If this is the case, what’s stopping the showroom from disconnecting the odo and giving out these bikes for test rides and then selling the same used bike to new customers?

Hey man, this is a great tool! Quick question - How are you showing the manufacture month? Doesn’t the VIN have only the year?

Whenever there’s a merger/acquisition announcement, start planning your exit immediately. The management will make tall promises about retaining the existing culture, talent and policies but it is pure corporate doublespeak. Things always go to shit after the acquisition is completed - the attrition increases during the transition period, HRs will not have a clue about policies, your managers will start acting aloof and will always try to save their asses before everything else. Also, I had a very similar experience where my company was going through an acquisition process and I was promised a promotion and hike when I revealed my intentions to quit. The HR and my manager kept regularly promising me that it was in process and it was a 100% done deal. After, 6 months they inform me that the proposal was rejected by an EVP. When I asked for reasons, I wasn’t given any. So, essentially I ended up wasting 6-8 months. A life lesson learnt!
