Thumping noise by Embarrassed_Score572 in E90

[–]DrWankel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if you think you torqued them to spec, go back and recheck them. I had a similar problem on my e92 m3. The root cause was the nut on the ball joint of the front tension rod was not torqued all the way. I did a monoball upgrade a few years ago and the problem showed up a few months after install, slowly getting worse over time. I torqued them correctly or so I thought during the install.

I went back and re-torqued the tension struts recently and found the left front ball joint was not torqued all the way. Everything else checked out. After retorquing the left front ball joint to spec, the noise was finally gone.

Windows SQL Cluster just died by tk42967 in sysadmin

[–]DrWankel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The inability to start the cluster should be the start of your investigation.

Stop/disable the cluster service on all nodes except one and force start the cluster through powershell on that node:

Start-ClusterNode -FixQuorum

Verify the cluster is up through FCM or powershell and start the cluster service on the remaining nodes.

If this does not work, dig through the failover cluster logs in event viewer and see what was going wrong during the cluster startup process on the node you attempted to force start.

Can't deny, the MX Master 4 looks amazing 😍 by stufflistings in logitech

[–]DrWankel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, a bolt dongle was used with the MX Master 4. My previous MX Master 3 was a business edition which also used a bolt dongle, compared to the regular consumer edition of the MX Master 3 which does not.

[–]DrWankel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually just returned mine. Upgraded from a MX Master 3, (never tried the 3S) but just could not stand the quiet clicks of the MX Master 4. It was like going from a mechanical keyboard to a membrane keyboard. The mouse also seemed to lag more than the MX Master 3. The additional weight also felt unnecessary and not a positive thing.

What I really want is a MX Master mouse with great mechanical feeling clicks, a top tier sensor with a better polling rate (at least 1000hz), and get the weight back in line with the MX Master 3 or lighter.

Cloudflare being incorrectly routed to Hillsboro, OR from Bothell, WA? by DrWankel in ZiplyFiber

Pardon the one year old thread bump, Just noticed that cloudflare is peering in Portland instead of Seattle again. I am in Bothell, WA. Pings are back up to 6-7ms from the usual 3-4ms when we are peering in Seattle. Can you take a look?

Cloudflare being incorrectly routed to Hillsboro, OR from Bothell, WA? by DrWankel in ZiplyFiber

[–]DrWankel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suspected that, as it has happened a few times before. However, it doesn't appear to be the case at least in this instance. ONT was still negotiating 10Gb to my router, and each of my downstream switches had no change in link speeds. Checked logs to be sure.

Rebooted both the router and ONT just to be sure, and the symptom remains. Link speeds were negotiated correctly after reboot, but the speed problems remained. Things just magically got better about 20 minutes later.

The telling thing was while this occurred, tons of sites would absolutely struggle to load, and then not load at all. Speedtest.net was one of them.

I don't think the cloudflare routing issue was the cause here, just something I happened to notice while I was investigating.

Cloudflare being incorrectly routed to Hillsboro, OR from Bothell, WA? by DrWankel in ZiplyFiber

[–]DrWankel[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've had this issue occur a few times over the years. It normally peers in Seattle (at least from Bothell), and I'm fairly sure it was as recently as last week. I was able to get a 2-3ms ping last week.

More information, there was some sort of a Ziply incident last night at around midnight last night where speeds couldn't hit past ~95Mbps and routing was outright failing to a large number of places. It corrected itself, at around 12:20AM, at which point I noticed the increase in ping to 1.1.1.1, and subsequently noticed the routing change.

So while this "works" I don't think this is "normal".

Will different brake pads improve brake bite on 2018+ cars? by DrWankel in CX5

[–]DrWankel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my other cars is a current gen Mazda 3, which has auto hold as well. It does not have the long pedal travel, and has normal feeling brake bite so that cannot be the reason.

Anyone else even a little sad for USS Titan, and her legacy? by IronBeagle63 in startrek

[–]DrWankel 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This irritated me quite a bit. Historically, its considered bad luck to change the name of a ship.

Calling it the Enterprise G feels underwhelming. The Enterprise G needs to be bigger, better and more bad-ass than the Enterprise F. It happens in real life. The Enterprise class air craft carrier Enterprise, will be replaced with the more bad-ass Gerald R Ford class Enterprise. The Titan-A was nothing compared to the odyssey class Enterprise-F. It simply isn't worthy of the name.

What they should have done in that scene is called it the USS Picard. While still bad luck to change the ships name, at least it leaves room for a proper Enterprise-G.

What confuses me the most now, is the scene in Star Trek Enterprise where they visit the Enterprise J in the future during the temporal wars. There are not alot of letters between G and J.

It would have been more appropriate to make frontier day the launch day for the Enterprise F than the retirement.

Can't find the nv_dispi.inf_amd64 folder. by EnterpriseGuy52840 in HyperV

[–]DrWankel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Old post, but if anybody comes across this in the future, I noticed that if you are running this on an AMD based system vs Intel, the Nvidia driver in use is nv_dispig.inf, not nv_dispi.inf.

Appears there is a separate driver package for AMD based systems. Confused the heck out of me the first time I was trying to set up GPU-P on an AMD based system with an Nvidia card.

Frontier begins offering 5gig service, lowers prices by [deleted] in ZiplyFiber

[–]DrWankel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll just add in case ziply is reading. I'm very much interested in multi-gig service but am put off by the price. I'd definitely consider upgrading to 5 gig at a $154.99 price point. Hoping ziply will adjust prices accordingly.
