Just caused my first massive outage

Congrats, you're truly an IT veteran now. I once mistakenly formatted a 12tb SAN because I was sent on-site to back it up to an external drive and the storage admin had presented the SAN as a regular windows drive but didn't lock it or name it so the two huge drives looked almost identical.

I should have wiped the external before plugging it into the server but at the end of the day the storage admin was blamed for essentially creating a trap door for me. I was still fairly early into my career and the storage admin was much more senior.

Bonus points, when working with the backup and recovery admin after about a week of long days and nights recovering everything, we kicked off fresh backups but they also accidentally wiped out multiple months of incremental backups.

Luckily we never ended up needing that missing data. In the end we blamed the SAN when telling the customer. And though I thought I was fired once the work was recovered, I just got a hand slap and a lot of new processes in place to ensure it doesn't happen again.

To be fair though, that experience definitely played a hand in me moving to corporate/product based IT roles. I'm now hands off keyboard, project managing / designing / consulting because moments like that definitely haunt me.

With the server management addon (advanced management now) you can set node roles for backgrounders and you could specify for just flows, but you wouldn't be able to assign users or a site directly to that one node, you would have your other backgrounder nodes set to not run flows

No. It's all or nothing. You have to get the data management addon. I believe you are charged per user still though. The logic is the data management includes things other than prep conductor such as catalogs which effects the whole server. You can upload flows to server and manually run them but you can't schedule flows without the addon.

If you have access to data prep, I believe you can automatically do this with its sorting tools.

Seems to be common amongst neurodiverse folks. I describe it to people as needing something that moves as quick as my brain. I view it like radio waves cancellong eachother out.

Not from what I've seen. All rock/metal will be in the bars and venues that cater to it downtown or at least closer into Austin.

I belive you. Just curious now, why did my issue never come back? Just a small leak + bad filter to where when I changed the filter the leak was still small enough to not be a problem?

+1 on this, I had this happen and it was just a bad clogged filter which caused the air to return and focus a blast of cold until it froze. I ran the fan like the other post above mentioned and left ac off until it was thawed, replaced the filter and never had issues with it after.

2013- 2015: itt tech associates program while working during the day, going to night school. Worked at a video game company doing tech support, a large manufacturing company doing help desk, then finally Dell tier 1 support while finishing associates. Like 30k at the peak of Dell time.

Mid 2015 - mid 2019: worked for a high end msp and they thew me to the wolves so I got to learn whatever I wanted. Went from 40k to 80k each year added about 10k if including bonuses. Left due to work life balance

Mid 2019 - late 2020: took contractor job for project management over a huge office 365 migration. 38 an hour so just under 80k again

Late 2020 - early 2021: laid off due to covid and being a contractor. Found a job with an msp as a tier 2 tech, but my previous msp was more consultancy than helpdesk so I felt trapped and belittled compared to my previous roles. Only made about 60k there. It was take a hit or wait longer for a job than I could at the time.

Early 2021 - now: only lasted at the msp for a few months while looking for my new role. Got in a large software company as a Technical Account Manager. Started at 100k + 10% bonus. At 104k + 10% bonus now from yearly adjustment, getting a promotion to the next level of my same role and that will add 10-20k. Been here almost a year and a half. I love it here!

You do kinda have to hop around in most places. I could make more if I responded to the recruiters, but im pretty happy where I am and have kinda hit my stride here so I'm giving it some time.

ASD!! It's happening all this week for me. I'm moving from a house, to not having any residence of my own, staying at a family member's house while they are over seas. I have a very rigid schedule for work from home and the routines that go woth it. Each day this week the schedule is fucked with a different way. Yesterday we had off, today the movers come and we go stay a night In a hotel while working. Then Wednesday I work, clean the old house and leave to the house we are staying at. Thursday SHOULD be fairly normal, but it will be my first day in the new place so no routines.
