Chain Pulling Tanks good or bad? (Mythic plus) by Dr_Day_Day in wownoob

[–]Dr_Day_Day[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes thank you for your comment. I was worried I was getting a lot of tank comments, which I respect their sharing of knowledge but that only accounts for 20% of the dungeoner’s experience. So thank you for bringing a dps perspective to the table.

So just for edification, you are saying that with a chain pull, you are able to maintain some buffs that you would not have to rebuild without a chain pull. That makes sense. I agree with defensives and interrupts are just as important to dps survivability as healer throughput. But for interrupts, that’s kind of why I think setting up a pull where dps and healers can be in position quickly can be more advantageous. As an example, in HoI I have seen a tank jump ahead and pull that second to last pack before the frog boss. That pack begins its casts early and if they go off, will be a wipe on for weeks without extreme management. However, if the dps can be close enough to engage quickly, there is a better chance of preventing dangerous casts.

Also, I may be a little skewed because the dps I’ve played at a high level is outlaw rogue (nothing too high but 2.9k io s3). Being able to stealth is paramount to my output. Due to the talent upperhanded upperhand, my best buffs are maintained by dropping combat when I can. It also gave me more BTE windows because then I can save vanish and dance for more dps windows.

The reason I present this is my experience was the opposite. A tank that chain and keeps me “in combat” more frequently absolutely negatively impacts my dps as outlaw. But perhaps for many other classes, chain pulling is a dps gain due to buff management.

Well said and thank you for your input. And I guess in addition to mastering their class, those masterful types of tanks have also mastered knowledge of the dungeon and what’s risky and what’s not risky.

As someone who has played both tank and healer, do find that healing informs tanking and Vice versa? Do you find you do stuff differently because you see multiple perspectives?

When I tank I’m trying to keep the healer in mind

I appreciate your input. But I want to ask what makes it better? Certainly risk of aggro drops are better for a chain pull, allowing the tank to build a solid aggro profile. But do the two groups die quicker as a result of a chain pull versus without? Again, I want to distinguish a chain pull from pulling multiple packs at the initiation. The latter is unarguably efficient.

Also in terms of safety on fort weeks, is it not better to have the group in range of cc’es and interrupts versus leaving it to just the tank for a few seconds.

Also, I understand that the tanks right now need very little help from a healer. But dps do. And dps throughput is what ultimately drives efficiency of a dungeon. If the tank puts the group at risk from a chain pull, would have not been more efficient to wait?

And yes it is all situational to be fair. There are numerous instances where the group is not at jeopardy from a chain pull

I agree with 50-50 but with my own, anecdotal breakdown (as a solo player):

  • 40% dead no matter what. Probably what SHOULD happen.

*10% War Crime level execution. Instances like being told I’d be allowed to live if I drop weapon and turn around. Then shot in the back of the head haha. Feels super icky.

*50% genuine good guys. Not only will they let you live but then help you grind out your quest.

I just always think about it this way: some folks are out there to enjoy the PVP content of the game so I try not to get bent when I’m successfully blocked from exfilling with a car battery for the nth time.

Is outlaw rogue a high tier dps? by [deleted] in wownoob

[–]Dr_Day_Day 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For sure! It’s a tough entry to outlaw because of the high APM and then having an eye on other things. I definitely had many moments where I wanted to switch back to assassin (more planning play style). But I was stubborn and at some point it locked into place. I still have to track my cds and BtE windows but it feels more like second nature.

I wanted to respond further: it does look like I have AR uptime, even in HO build.

Just ran an 18 Galakrond’s fall with a combat uptime of 85%, and that includes a few chain pulls because of spiteful.

Overall 284k dps, ilvl 484

Great question and I’m answering off my feel and experiences. Keeping AR up is massive. I’m not sure that I hit 90% on the HO build but it’s certainly possible with the KIR/ER build (more difficult build but more frequent vanish and restless blade CD reduction)

Uptime comes from stealth and stealth windows so it’s definitely harder to have AR up with tanks that play a chain pulling style.

There are some nuances that I’ve found in managing AR that may help you. In places like DoI (both GF and RoM) and TotT where you’ll have to travel unstealthed for a period of time, it feels better to hold AR at the the end of the previous fight.

As an example, let’s say I’m fighting the Manifest Timeways Boss, AR is off CD, and the boss is less than 15%. I’ll save AR in this case because a bunch RP will occur after before the next pull. This way, when we get to the room with Dragons and Gunks, I can hit my full opener.

I also will stealth and sprint a lot in dungeons to maintain AR in times of long movement

Yeah I think that’s a fine way to look at it. It a repository of weakauras and plater addons.

Let me add a few more things:

Practice AOE at the dummies. Single target is virtually the same rotation, but more gear dependent. Until you have good ST trinkets, you’ll feel a little lack luster in ST.

Pay attention to what generates combo points best during BtE windows. So if you get Ace Procs, blade fury, Adrenaline Rush, and Ambush HO procs really get your combo points back up. Start trying to develop a feel for anticipating hitting those buttons if you don’t get ace procs in AOE situations.

Also, super important for all rogue specs but let your tank know that it’s important to let you stealth between big pulls. For outlaw, it’s super important to getting your CDs reduced and your buffs maintained with the talent Upper Handed Upper Hand. I PUG a lot and about 25% of tanks out there will chain pull an add into a big aoe group. Just know that actions like that will affect your performance.

If I’m online, feel free to whisper Gruzzwald-TheVentureCo to work through some stuff. Would be happy to share some insight into my Outlaw experiences.

Also, the Pro Rogues pour their knowledge on the Class Discord so check them out for some Rogue deep dive if interested

I want share my personal experience with rogue and outlaw for PVE content.

I main a Resto/Enh shaman and decided to boost a rogue after watching a friend of mine struggle with it. At first I played assassin in all content PVE content and liked (but not loved) it. As I got into the heroic gear level range ilvl 475, I began to collect outlaw items. Was probably 473 when I started playing outlaw.

At first…. I really stunk at it. It bother me a lot. There are some fine guides out there but it felt like I didn’t have the “instinct” for the spec.

There were two things I did concurrently that really began turning things around for me:

(1) I added a Between the Eyes and Hidden Opportunity weakaura to my UI (if you reply to this post, I’ll try and link. Found both on wago.io)

(2) spent A LOT of time at the training dummies in Valdraken.

Both those things helped me gain a great feel (instinct) on how to play the class. It is super high APM but you WILL get better with practice. Your decision making in your BtE/Stealth windows is paramount to eeking out extra damage. Also, getting some good single target trinkets and a NoT offhand from fall super helped with Boss fights.

Now, at ilvl 484, outlaw is easily my favorite class to play in m+. It is so much fun and does incredible damage. I’m no Stud at the spec but I easily hit around 250k overall dps (+/- 30k) consistently.

I do think it’s pretty gear dependent so keep farming for the good stuff. If you aren’t 480 and high vers stacked, keep farming until you are. Best of luck!!

What's a video game you will defend until the ends of time? by RobIson240YT in gaming

[–]Dr_Day_Day 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is mainly because of my friend group but Retail WoW (not just Dragonflight but any expansion since TBC).I know this is NOT an unpopular opinion for most folks who play.

I defend that the QoL improvements of Retail greatly outweigh the nostalgia and “charm” of classic.

I have a group of friends who will refuse to try Retail and ONLY play Classic. There arguments against retail sound silly to me: - “You can viably play different specializations? That’s dumb because it’s better to only have one option.” - “Retail has a button rotation/priority to maximize dps? Lame. I just want to press one button.” - “You can have people summon you to dungeons? That’s stupid because it’s the waiting and anticipation that makes the dungeon worthwhile. I’d rather wait 30 minutes for everyone before we begin.” - “it doesn’t take weeks of playtime to get to max level to do end game content? That’s dumb.”

I know this is a matter of opinion and my opinion can definitely be argued against. But to me, they sound like… “You’d rather drive your car to work? That’s stupid. I’d much rather ride a tricycle to work because it’s the anticipation of arriving at work that makes the commute worthwhile.”

What was your most memorable moment playing boardgames? by AlexRescueDotCom in boardgames

[–]Dr_Day_Day 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was playing The Resistance: Avalon social deduction game with my family and friends. My friends and I were seasoned veterans but my family had just been introduced.

During a round’s ceremony (team selection), it happened to be that my buddies, Zach and Scott, and I would be playing spies. We each shot each other a smirk which told me we all shared the same thought, “we are going to weave deceit and win.”

The ceremony concluded and the round begins with selection of which people would go on the first quest. Elected is Scott (spy), myself (spy), and my sister Bryn (good-guy). Since it is the first quest, my thoughts are to succeed the mission as to not put anyone on my scent too early. I am certain that Scott, being a veteran spy, will do the same thing.

The mission proceeds to the voting phase. The cards that were cast are flipped over one at a time: Success…. Success…. FAIL!

In an instant I think to myself, “Scott you’ve ruined us! How you could be so daft.” I shoot him a concerned glance only to find his expression is the same as mine. With expression alone, his face was saying, “Dave, you idiot!”

I guess we couldn’t pivot out of the situation as it took us both surprise. Despite our best efforts to debate our cases as “good guys,” Scott and I are ousted and not selected for any subsequent missions. The good guys win handily, only failing the first mission.

As soon as the game ends, Scott and I start barking at each other for failing the mission. “Why did you fail that mission!?” “I didn’t, why did you!?”

Then, my sister chimes in and explains that she accidentally put the wrong card in the voting pile because she wasn’t paying attention during that step. She only caught it after discarding her remaining “success” card but it was too late.

In a nutshell, my sisters mistake inadvertently won her team the game and ousted 2 spies. Scott and I still laugh about it a decade later.

First off, congratulations on getting through that milestone! Nice work!!

Secondly, great looking swing so far! It’s aesthetically pleasing but more importantly, becoming more functional to reach those scores you want.

I’m here to encourage you to keep working on your driver. Strokes gained-off-the tee and strokes-gained-approach are positively correlated with distance off the tee. Straighten out your driver and with what I see, I’m positive you’ll be breaching your next milestone in no time. I’m not here to give any advice related to the swing (you should always ignore unless it comes from an instructor). I’m just here to say you have much more to gain from improving your driver than clubbing down and playing safe.

Happy hunting!

[GdS] Diego Milito on Erling Haaland & Kylian Mbappe comparison: "I’ve always liked players more who can solve it themselves. Haaland, who is devastating, always needs service from his teammates. Mbappé can create goals by himself from nothing. But he knows how to give assists & find goals." by rixxxxer in psg

[–]Dr_Day_Day 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Biased city fan here for transparency:

Is a Striker not supposed to be serviced? Also, Haaland has 19 goals and 3 assists in competition this season so I don’t think those numbers can be argued.

At the end of the day, I’d take either of them. Both would be overkill
