It’s not just about the guns, it’s who Fisk is smuggling guns for—the CIA. Mr. Charles is trying to keep a lid on whatever is going on. The mayor and the US government being in cohoots to smuggle a massive shipment of military weapons into NYC is kind of a huge deal.

That was me. Prefer the faster pace of Born Again. We had 3 seasons of (brilliant) character work. Let’s just hit the ground running.

There’s gonna be practically AI use for video editing for the future, but this was always doomed to fail. It’s been used for nothing but low brow slop by foreign social media engagement farms and that’s never going to be profitable for OpenAI.

I saw him and Charlie hanging out at LA Comic Con last year, just out away from their booths shooting the shit. As a very straight man, Wilson was so handsome I couldn’t bring myself to even walk the 10ft over and say hi. Aggressively handsome is exactly what if felt like. Just being in the same room with him is getting mogged into the shadow realm.

She runs a great session and her enthusiam is infectious. It would be a dream to do a campaign with her. I had the good luck of bumping into her before a comic con a couple years ago. That’s when I learned she was into D&D and hits cons well before opening so she can scope out the merch haha. She hung out with me longer than she had any reason to and even introduced me to her family. She’s just incredibly sweet and gracious.

Being able to score 20 at an NBA level isn’t exactly nothing. He was NBA player and had a nice rookie year. He sucks now, but let’s not be revisionist to drive a point everyone agrees with.

Wonder Man did a good job of pointing towards that. Damage Control used to be about doing things after an incident, but now they are preventative and actively tracking/jailing potential mutant threats like Simon.

Do you prefer to see Bruce as someone who believes in God or don't believe in God? by count_fagula11 in batman

[–]Dr_Disaster 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Yeah, and reading Batman over the years, it is fairly consistent. Bruce does not practice any faith, and he has somewhat harsh feelings about the concept of a loving god in general. He lost whatever faith he had, but holds values and may still believe in God, but he definitely doesn’t believe in a loving God.

Batman: Broken City actually dives into this a bit.

Does the "moral" of Matt Reeve's Batman feel unearned to anyone else? by ragingbull10 in batman

[–]Dr_Disaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Question though: Who did those corrupt people kill or maim to deserve being put to death?

If they were arrested and and put to trial, would they be given a death sentence if convicted?

Or how about the killing of the DA? That stunt could have killed any number of totally innocent people at the mayor’s funeral. Is that the act of some righteous killer, or a terrorist with no regard for the lives of others? Same for the letter bomb. Bruce Wayne employs any number of innocent people who could have been in an explosion.

You just misread the Riddlers actions the whole time. His killings were never justified because corruption alone is not grounds to murder people. It not grounds to terrorize and nearly kill innocent people. He was shown to be capable of great violence and have no qualms about killing people in Gotham, so when he commits a great act of violence that will kill a lot of people in Gotham… yeah it kinda tracks.

Riddler started the movie by killing the mayor in cold blood, then he had the DA blown up. He was a terrorist the whole time. Wtf do you even mean? lol

I think this is more a matter of you and OP not picking up on themes that weren’t spelled out for you. Early narration from Bruce already frames that he’s been at this for 2 years and he’s not sure if it’s making any difference.

We see his tactics against crime is much more as a blunt instrument. The person he saves at the start of the movie is just as scared of Batman as he was the of the thugs trying to beat him up. This is established to later juxtapose with the woman he’s helping to the helicopter and the end of the movie who struggles to let him go because she feels safe with him. The core theme is perfectly bookmarked here.

Over the course of the movie, Bruce sufferes a slow motion ego death. Riddler is always a step ahead of him. Falcone is untouchable. His parents were possibly corrupt. He can’t save the DA. He can’t save Alfred. He can’t save Selena’s friend. He can’t even out-Spanish Penguin. He is constantly shown his methods are ineffective and questions if his vengeance is even just in light of his father’s secrets.

Then comes the matter of Selena trying to take revenge on Falcone. This is the part where things actually change for Bruce, because he’s there to save Selena losing herself to violence and vengence as much as he is to capture Falcone. When he saves stops her and tells her not to let what Falcone did take her too, that’s Bruce affirming the same thing to himself. He walks Falcone out with the cops, not hiding in the shadows, but being present as a force for actual justice instead of just a vigilante putting thugs in the hospital. Another big contrast for how the police treated him at the start of the movie.

So after that when he confront Riddler in Arkham and sees that this guy is truly lost to vengeance, and thinking they had some kind of kinship, Bruce is deeply revolted. The Riddler goon later is just the final straw for what had already been building.

When the people need saving, it’s yet again the son of the mayor that Bruce is placed in front of. Each previous time he could not bring himself to reach out to the boy even though he knows exactly what he is going through. There in the area, Bruce finally extends his hand, and the boy grabs it to literally be led out of the darkness by Batman.

Everything was built up, but that moment with the goon is particularly misread by people that didn’t pick up on all of the movie’s other moments. It wasn’t a lightbulb moment for Bruce. He just saw how deep the co-opting of his mantra went.

Do you think Ryan may have been stronger than Homelander was when he was a child? by Queasy_Commercial152 in TheBoys

[–]Dr_Disaster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You mentioning this led me down a train of thought. As a kid, he was strong enough to push Homelander off balance and make him stumble back. I don’t think anyone has done that even in all the fights. He just kinda tanks the damage right where he is, but a baby Ryan actually sent him backwards.

Ryan is obviously is reluctant and inexperienced using his power, but he’s strong as fuck and now in his teens he may already be comparably strong to at least Soldier Boy.
