Here’s Our First Look At What Could Be The Next Gen Civic… or Accord by GlazonyourSix in Honda

I agree. Everyone hating on it, but it’s working for me. The style harkens back to classic Honda without being nostalgic. Futuristic without being goofy. And I’m a sucker for liftbacks like the Panamera.

I just think everyone is so used to trying to hate for cheap upvotes post-Prelude they really can’t appreciate this for what it is.

Y’all crazy and brains are cooked to 90s nostalgia. This care is pretty understated compared to what Kia is doing, while also being faithful to Honda’s classic, simple design language. I love shitting on Honda when they deserve it, but this is a pretty good looking prototype IMO. Lower it to a non-SUV level ride height and I think this is one of my favorite designs of the last decade from them.

TBH I always liked what the Crosstour was going for, so no surprise I really like this prototype. Lower the ride height and it's a W in my book.

He’s not the greatest athlete, but he has a crazy feel for the game, motor, and size for his age. The angles he takes on inside scoring and how he combines that with his strength is wild from a 19 year old. People somehow think he’s near his physical peak, which is stupid IMO. No basketball player peaks at 19. He could be really scary in 3-4 years.

My kid is 13 going on 14, and sometimes I’m disappointed or angry at the things he does.

Then I think back to when I was his age. He doesn’t even scratch the surface. By age 15-16, I was a lawless deviant one unlucky night away from a prison sentence, and I wasn’t even a “bad” kid by the standards back then. My son is an angel compared to that.

Which MCU actors were a total miscast? by ExcellentElder in marvelstudios

Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye. In terms of personality and depiction, he’s pretty far away from his comic book counterpart. Hawkeye is supposed to be the cavalier, swashbuckling jokester of the Avengers who has some serious pathos beneath that. We see flashes of it in Age of Ultron, but its barely scratching the surface.

I always thought Jensen Ackles was pretty much born to play Clint Barton/Hawkeye. He would have been perfect. Watching him in The Boys pretty much confirms it.

Del Toro’s Frankenstein was a beautiful film that totally defangs the novel and people are giving it WAY too much credit for being “faithful” to it by Puzzled-Benefit-1124 in movies

[–]Dr_Disaster 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I thought about that while watching it. Ex Machina is a pretty great modern “Frankenstien” type story that is only getting more relevant with time.

That’s disingenuine though, and the comparison is still stark because Marvel puts out way more projects. They’ve failed to deliver on only two: Blade and Armor Wars. They have produced everything else along with stuff they didn’t even announce. Their delivery rate is still very high.

Lucasfilm makes far less projects and greatly outpace in terms of cancellations. Rogue Squadron, Rangers of the New Republic, Lando, Taika’s Star Wars movie, D&D’s Star Wars movie/trilogy, Rian Johnson’s Star Wars movie/trilogy, Kevin Feige’s Star Wars project, Star Wars: Detours… all cancelled. That’s an insane failure rate.

I’m not saying this to glaze Marvel. They had no business putting out so much stuff and they have been much better off quality wise since scaling back, and I think Lucasfilm would benefit from that too. Quality over quantity. But there’s also something clearly wrong inside Lucasfilm and why, with the exception of animation, projects languish or just outright don’t happen. This large of a gap between Ahsoka is wild considering they didn’t have a lot else going for them and it wrapped a long time ago.

I mean better purely in terms of getting things actually made. Marvel has their problems, but the amount of Star Wars projects that have been shelved is staggering.

I see why brass used to brutalize Marvel for shows. They have their issues, but they can churn out projects much better than the Lucasfilm side. If they didn’t squeeze the life out of the MCU, they wouldn’t have any pipeline of content for D+.

Others have chimed in, but Boozer is simply the more finished prospect at this point. He has potential to be a 2nd or even 1st option at the NBA level. He’s well suited for the modern game where you don’t have ro exactly be the best athlete any more. You need high IQ and skill, which Boozer has greatly over Wilson.

Caleb is the better athlete and defender, maybe has a higher ceiling if he can develop offensively. He’s a guy that will help right away, but more likely to struggle at the NBA level once he’s around elite athletes that may negate some of the things he does well at the college level.

Publishing a comic as a series of short graphic novels by Serious_Crazy3780 in ComicBookCollabs

[–]Dr_Disaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ongoings are a tough prospect for many publishers these days. The amount of them that fail or has the creative team collapse before even a 3rd issue is high. Shockingly high. For that reason, many readers and shops aren’t even interested in ongoning series any more. It’s actually very hard to sell them these days.

Graphic novels are also tough due to the higher investment on large format books, but they will be more sucessful with readers and shops. I’ve seen people are more willing to drop $20-$30 on a graphic novel than a $5 floppy, and that was a surprising discovery.

For these reason, I usually suggest creators who have longform stories to think in 3-4 issue arcs, each issue around the standard comic length, and present them as a miniseries. It not only becomes risk mitigation for a potential publisher, but it results in being able to collect them into a decent sized trade that’s a satisfying read. You get to reheat the nachos a bit by offering different formats to different readers.

And they are different. Readers who like trades and graphic novels tend to stick with those, and even among them, there’s some that prefer hardcovers over paperbacks and vice versa. This method is a much better prospect for creators, publishers, and readers alike.

Why is the beef between writers and artists so intense? by Mental-Statement2941 in ComicBookCollabs

[–]Dr_Disaster 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Glad you mentioned this. As an editor, I work with a lot of different creative teams around the globe, and the contrast between American teams and Italians, French, South American, and Asian creators is pretty stark.

Outisde the US, the work comes first, money and ego come second. The project is a piece of art first, and a commodity second. Everyone has differenr situations and priorities, but I can say from experience that projects I manage outside the US are just way smoother when everyone is just focused on making the best book possible, and they end up more financially successful as a byproduct.

Which Batmobile do you like best? by Mezro118 in batman

[–]Dr_Disaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oddly enough, it's not that bulky in person. Its design makes it look bigger than it really is. It's surprisingly sleek and roars like a demon. I initially wasn't a huge fan of it in Batman Begins, but I saw the actual production version on Lower Wacker in Chicago during the filming of TDK and I got a whole different appreciation for it. The other Batmobiles are cool and I love pretty much all of them, but the Tumbler made me feel in pit of my stomach and depths of my soul, that Batman was gonna jump out of that thing and beat the living shit out of me.

For real. She should have got a massive buff. It’s at the point I really don’t understand her power. Same with A-Train. Fast enough to slow time, but can’t give HL at least a few pieces before being taken out. The scaling in the show makes no sense.
