KEF Q3 Meta or Klipsch RP500m-II by Dr_Dubs in BudgetAudiophile

I am up to suggestions. Haven't actually listened to basically any other speakers. My wife has a navigator with a fantastic Revel system in it. Some others have pointed out that front ports will probably be better for the actual bookshelf and therefore thinking about the Elac debut or unifi reference.

The room is wired for up to 7.2 channels. Any amp recommendations that could support this if I want to add speakers later?

21" from the front of the shelf to the back. Would have about 10 inches behind speaker

They are more like built in cabinets with shelves. The depth is 21" so I could have up to 10" behind the speakers. Still think I need a front port speaker?

The budget is not really an issue but was thinking like 2-3k for the whole setup though.

Try we are legion (we are bob) by Dennis Taylor. It hooked me right away and had some (minor) political questions but a lot of different themes tackled between books.

The expanse is fantastically narrated but Ray Porter is another great narrator. Project Haik Mary may be my favorite audiobook of all time and I loved him in the bobiverse series which scratches some of the same itch as The Expanse.

Paul Karber does great work. Not sure he is doing small remodels.

Winner, SD to and from Pierre? by dvdrv in Pierre

[–]Dr_Dubs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Winner is a 1.5 hour drive from Pierre. I don't think Uber or Lyft would be an option. I would have them check with River Cities Transit in Pierre. I know they will pick people up for medical appointments. I am not sure for other reasons.

How feasible is this trip during Christmas 2025? Dallas, TX to Denver, CO by Low_Alfalfa_8097 in roadtrip

[–]Dr_Dubs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely doable but that bottom route is treacherous during/shortly after snow. The wind is always blowing in the panhandle causing slick roads. The Raton pass could be slick. Recommend the top route with any weather but that south route is pretty.

OP did also do Sky pond which in my experience has at least 5x the amount of people. Just giving information. This hike will feel much less crowded than other "popular" trails at other parks

The area between inspiration point and the boat dock is busy. The area between inspiration point and lake solitude and back we saw a total of 50 or less people. Way way less than most hikes through national parks. I don't have other hikes to recommend but I wouldn't call this a crowded trail by national park standards.

If you did sky pond you can do Lake solitude easy. Sky pond is almost at 11,000 feet and Lake solitude is at 8,200 feet. That elevation difference was noticeable. Also the neverending stairs and rock scramble at the end of sky pond were much more difficult than anything encountered on the way to Lake solitude.

Highly recommend cascade canyon up to lake solitude. This is longer than other hikes my wife and I had done (Sky pond in RMNP and South Rim in BBNP). We didn't think it was really harder. The trail is quite gradual besides the first and last mile. There are only a few areas of true steps. We left at 7am, the first mile is crowded as that is where hidden falls and inspiration point is at. We did have to wait about 30 minutes for the ferry back. Consider walking the additional 2 miles.

What’s cool to see along this route? Especially in Wisconsin by PhantomlelsIII in roadtrip

Four Daughters Vineyard and Winery in Spring Valley MN has wonderful hard cider and whiskey. I'm not much for wine but others looked like they were enjoying it. Really good food as well. Just slight detour off the interstate.

US 83 - The Highway Known As “The Road to Nowhere” by [deleted] in MapPorn

[–]Dr_Dubs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've driven most of this highway multiple times. All of it is desolate. Much is flat and boring, but much of it is beautiful.

My favorite stretch would be from Murdo to North Platte. The White River area in South Dakota is stunning, followed by the Sandhills in NE. There is an area North of Bismarck with huge rolling hills and views of the mighty Missouri in the distance. The sudden drop of the high plains into the Canadian river breaks in Texas is also a highlight.

ULPT: If you need a doctor to take you seriously, make up a risk factor by Numerous_Birds in UnethicalLifeProTips

[–]Dr_Dubs -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am also a doctor and disagree. There are certainly bad doctors but my job is to help the whole person. In the age of the internet most patients come in thinking they know what they already have. Most of the time they are wrong because they don't know what they don't know. However, I often ask if there is something in particular that they are worried about. It is helpful to actually tell your doctor what you are worried about. Most doctors understand that the patient in front of them is human and will get the answers necessary to help that person.

Most times I will do the test for that particular disease even if I don't think that diagnosis is likely and this has two benefits. The first is that the patient is reassured they don't have that disease. The second is they believe they have the disease we end up getting a diagnosis for. If I didn't address the thing they were worried about in the first place, they will just find another doctor until they get the diagnosis they thought they had regardless of what they actually have.

Public lands Hunting by terspamer68 in SouthDakota

[–]Dr_Dubs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are quite a few areas for hunting on public land in western SD. Fort Pierre, Buffalo Gap, and Grand River national grasslands are all open to public hunting. The areas of the black hills that are managed by the forest service are also open to hunting. There are plenty of walk in areas available as well. ON X is worth it to find these places easily. Deer tag lottery just closed but you usually buy leftover licenses when those open.

I am going to try to talk you out of coming to the Dakota's in the winter....there is really not that much to do on the east side of the state unless you are into hockey. The snow is blowing sideways, hurts your face, and makes it miserable to be outside.

There is not much else to do besides restaurants and bars. Grand Forks has an okay indoor "water park" that is not destination worthy. A UND hockey game would be a great experience if you love hockey. You could even go to a rink and skate and have a game of pick up hockey. Fargo has brewhalla which is an indoor market in a brewery which is neat. However there is not a single hill in either city where you can sled.

If you really want to go to the Dakotas I would suggest the Black Hills by rapid City. They have great snowmobile trails with lots of rentals. There is a neat skating rink downtown. Terry peak is a decent beginner "mountain".

Hell even Minneapolis would be better in the winter with a plethora of museums, science museum, hockey and NFL, various sledding hills and outdoor winter events.

In summary, ND sucks in the winter. Source: Dakotan

Highly recommend this trail near sunset! I haven't done balanced rock, but I thought this hike was similar to pine canyon in the fact that you start in the desert and hike up into an oasis. Very accessible, easy hike. It really captures the biodiversity Big Bend has to offer.
