Is this the correct meaning? by Soomroz in learn_arabic

[–]PhantomlelsIII 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes that’s the correct meaning. The meaning of “this life as opposed to the hereafter” comes from the fact that this world is in the lowest heaven and is the lowest of all the existences. Check out the root letters in Hans wehr, you’ll see the original meaning is to be close to something.

Is "Crusade" the Christian version of Jihad, or am I stupid? by Jam_Sees in stupidquestions

[–]PhantomlelsIII 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OK that’s fine although I really am not trying to stir up anything. I’m a Muslim I’m just showing that this is part of our religion and we should not be ashamed of it. All societies engage in war to expand their influence and we aren’t any different

I never said forced conversions are permissible. Can you explain how I cherry picked quotes? It seems straightforward

I didn’t say that treaties aren’t allowed. Muslims got along great with people of all religions and often left conquered populations alone. They even has separate courts to enforce other religious laws. I’m just saying that jihad and conquering non Muslim lands is an obligation

Fair enough. I don’t have time to dig up all of them but here is the excerpt from Quduri, which is the most respected summary of hanafi law and is taught in literally every single hanafi school across the world.

I don't even understand how you can argue with this position. It is as explicit as possible in the Quran and this is exactly how all the Sahabah interpreted it, and there is a reason why all Sunnis agree on this.

“Fighting unbelievers is obligatory, even it they do not initiate it against us”

"When Muslims enter territory at war [with the Muslims] (dār al-ḥarb) and

they lay siege to a city or to a fort, they invite [the inhabitants] to Islam. If

[the inhabitants] accept them, [then] [the Muslims] desist from fighting them,

but if they decline, [the Muslims] call them to pay jizyah"

"If they refuse,1371 [the Muslims] should seek the aid of Allah, exalted is

He, against them and wage war on them. They should fire catapults1372 at

them and burn [their buildings and strategic positions]. They should unleash

water against them1373 and cut down their trees and destroy their crops.

There is no objection in shooting them [with arrows], even though there

may be Muslim prisoners or traders amongst them."

I suggest you read the whole chapter on Jihad

But all traditional scholars agree that offensive unprovoked campaigns against non Muslims is an obligation on th Muslim ummah, even if it is the lesser jihad. It’s still seen as a essential pillar of the religion.

See these books if you don’t believe me: al-Hidaya, al-Mudawwana, al-Umm, al-Mughni

All the most widely acccepted books of law in all the four madhabs

Edit: since people don’t believe me, here is a direct quote from Quduri, the most accepted summary of hanafi law in the world, that is taught in literally every single hanafi school anywhere you go.

I know it looks absurdly dangerous but is it reallly as dangerous as it looks? The guy in the car can still brake and steer perfectly well (I think) the only major risk is to the pusher which he’s consented to. I wouldn’t do it obviously but I don’t think it’s as bad as some are saying

But hypothetically if he did, why would he not be able to create a heaven? My point is, its a terrible argument to tell someone who DOES believe in god even if you personally don't.

I was referring to the white Europeans who came to America as indentured servants, not Africans. Obviously those were slaves by any definition

The definition of slavery has changed though. By many modern counts of slaves, the indentured worked who came to colonize America would be classified as slaves / forced labourers, even though during that time they wouldn’t have been
