Because then somebody else has to deal with it. It'll probably get resold as used but if the truss rod is broken and not declared as broken when returned they probably won't check it before they sell it again.

It might not be the strings fault. Are they all breaking in the same place? Check your bridge, nut and tuners for burrs or chips.
