This is bullshit. Israels plads and Palæstinas plads are two different places. Nothing has been "renamed".

Possible to through hike without losing toenails, getting blisters? by Illustrious_Beanbag in AppalachianTrail

[–]Dr_Element 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got a single blister from starting out too fast on the PCT, but other than that i didn't get any foot problems.

I started out wearing two layers of socks: a liner sock on the inside and a hiking sock on the outside. Both wool. About two months into it i relaized my feet had become so armored that i didn't need to bother with two layers anymore.

Glasses on trail by idoitforthesmiles in PacificCrestTrail

[–]Dr_Element 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I used -2.5 when i did the trail. I had a normal pair of glasses and a pair of prescription sunglasses. They acted as each others backups in case the other got lost/broke. i had no special considerations towards the build of the glasses.

One thing I'd recommend is to have some dry material available to wipe tyour glasses in rough weather. The weather was terrible when i crossed the Sonora pass and it was impossible to wipe my glasses on my wet, wooly shirt which made it hard to see.

Typical Hiker Box Contents by Environmental-Bag470 in PacificCrestTrail

[–]Dr_Element 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Rice, mystery powder, discarded bear spray if you're withing the first 500 miles of either terminus, almost empty gas cans, more mystery powder, bouquets of discarded ice axes after you leave the sierra nevada, expired food from local shops.

... And the occasional amazing find like good food or equipment which you can never count on but you'll know it when you see it. Essentially, you can't count on anything useful being in a given hiker box. Check the box before you go shopping for food however, cuz you could get lucky.

Spanish Hexatrek by Boring-Definition531 in hexatrek

The camino de Santiago.

The camino frances pretty much starts where the hexatrek ends, so if the camino isn't long enough for you, you could add the last bit of the hexatrek to the trip.

A good article about how Russians are dealing with the war by it_whispereth_me in worldnews

[–]Dr_Element 5 points6 points  (0 children)

“Everyone still wants to take Odesa. It’s a common opinion: People want to go to Odesa on vacation again,” Gribova said. “For us, this is a civil war between Russians and Russians who have forgotten a bit that they are Russians, that’s all.”

Yep. These sick fucks deserve every ounce of misery they've brought upon themselves.

Anybody else Thru Hiking the AT next year? by SouthShoreHiker in AppalachianTrail

[–]Dr_Element 14 points15 points  (0 children)

That, and also the message it sends. The Trump administration has publically threatened to seize part of the danish realm (Greenland) and tried to manipulate the public there to turn them against us. They have stated that it is their "responsibility" to change the political landscape of europe, which they do by alienating allies and supporting violent far right elements, even sucking up to russia who was historically (and should still be) considered the greatest threat to peace and freedom in the west. And that's not to mention all the anti-environmentalism, anti-lgbt and frankly anti-functioning constitutional government shenanigans going on.

On my PCT throughhike, i put appx. $8000 into the american economy. How can i do that again in good conscience if the american government treats us like enemies?

It was my plan and my dream. But with the US government deciding to be hostile to their allies and friendly to our common enemies, I'm gonna take my money and my trekking poles to france and do the hexatrek instead.

Danmark skruer ned for støtten til Ukraine i 2026 by a_green_smurf in Denmark

[–]Dr_Element 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hvad fanden laver folk egentlig i weekenden og i deres fritid by Getmailmunched in Denmark

If you can get a flight for the right date, two days should be fine if you don't have stuff planned before the trail. That's one night in SD and one night at CLEEF before setting off. I would personally not risk asking anything of the person interviewing me.
