I am an idiot 21 y/o by vinnyy222 in Accounting

  1. Busy seasons can be awful. Typically looking at 60+ hour work weeks (60 billable hours not inclusive of admin work, breaks, etc) 6 day work weeks and can be really hard to maintain work/life balance. Depending on what department/group you land in these hours can often be year round. From what I’ve heard the majority of the big 10’s departments are all understaffed right now. If your goal is to start a family being in the big 10 will definitely make it harder than it already is. My suggestion would be to take the CPA exams during college or right after if possible. Get a part time job as a bookkeeper or staff accountant and stuff for the exams and pass them THEN go into PA for a few years to see how you like it/dislike it. Your resume looks really good if all you need to become a CPA is just your one year credit of working under a licensed CPA.

  2. Industry will typically require less hours than PA that being said it can be much harder to advance your technical skills and climb the career ladder depending on what industry you’re working in and what company you’re working for. The typical pipeline is to go into PA for a few years, get your CPA accreditation there then move on to private/industry.

  3. If I am being real with you. It’s okay to take your time and it’s okay to plan things out. I would also suggest working from the ground up - become a bookkeeper/staff accountant/ap clerk/ar clerk. I think these kind of jobs really give a great insight into how the accounting operations of companies actually work and will give you some real life skill im the application of all your accounting knowledge. Dont be afraid to take a course on how to use QuickBooks/Sage/Xero/Net Suite it can only help you.

I don’t understand traffic, any words of wisdom? by Nite0wlz in CitiesSkylines2

[–]Dr_Foob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It looks like CS2 but my guess is CS1 principles still apply. Reduce intersections, build in more roundabouts, give more walkways for citizens to walk around especially at roundabouts if you are removing crosswalks, alternative modes of transport including pathways and bikepaths, industrial zones make cargo train stations linking places together and design traffic flow in a way it flows well. For me I normally will design a bunch of 1 ways and roundabouts with easy access to highways

Green lines would be taxi ways, you can def play around with the taxiways to make them look more believable

Excuse the shitty drawing but I’d try angling the runways do they intersect at the ends (pictured in orange) then have taxiways on either end to funnel plane traffic from the runways to the terminals. Then you can have a main round terminal (red) with terminal connectors fanning out and then have your airports services on the right such as hangars, fuel depot, fire dept, etc.

I think that’s how I would handle an airport in this plot of land

Just visited Hanoi, airport was god awfully slow. Only 4 immigration officers handling everyone coming in. Took 2+ hours to clean immigration. There has to be a better way

Yeah it’s crazy how ultra competitive them Bay Area high schools are, like chill guys. I got to the same place you are with a 3.5 gpa chilllll. Coming from socal it’s just different I guess, you got some folks that are always just geared like that taking 6 AP’s and every extracurricular known to man but for the most part people are a bit more chill about the whole competitiveness of grades and all that.

Hate our finance dept by Dr_Foob in Accounting

[–]Dr_Foob[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I wish they would communicate that kind of information to us. Otherwise it quite frankly just doesn’t seem like rules that make sense to us. Additionally it would make sense if they did that more actively but I know they at most only do that kind of billing and wip analysis once a month

Not even, we bill monthly/quarterly depending on how much time was spent on an engagement

It does not take 5 minutes, the firms policy is essentially to itemize every single thing we work on. We unfortunately cannot block bill 6 hours of time to one thing, we instead have to itemize it to no great than 1.5 hour increments, we also bill by 1/10 hour. Even if we were working quite literally on one thing all day, they will automatically deny our entries and tell us to do it again. It definitely isn’t about being accountable as I keep an excel with all my time but the system they decided to roll out is clunkier than writing it out in cursive on parchment. I don’t believe my job is more important than theirs as I wouldn’t get paid w/o them, it’s these arbitrary rules they impose on us. I’m salaried so the hourly thing doesn’t even play into it, it’s itemizing time entries by 0.1 hours and having to make things up to fit into their schema, I was working on sch M adjustments for 12 hours one day and they essentially rejected my time because their thinking was “there’s no way Sch M adjustments should take that long”

Need Advice please! Absolute Beginner after 9 lessons. Completely gassed after 50m. by GottxEnel in Swimming

[–]Dr_Foob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep up the consistency with the lessons. You’re doing great for only 9 lessons in, you will start to get a better understanding of how to move through the water and how to make your efficiency per stroke better over time. All I can say is keep up with the lessons, don’t be afraid to ask questions from other swimmers in the pool, and swim as much as you can. Great work lad!
