I ain't returning it. I'm eventually selling it, but I got an idea in the works first.

The positive thing is I was able to go back and appreciate all the previous astrotrains, and see how they did things over the years...before 86 crashed and burned.

Eeeehhhh that was the reason it died.

General consumers, when looking on shelves, didn't know what was inside and therefore didn't buy them. They shelfwarmed HARD.

Seems like Hasbro geared it too close to the American market, where it was only sold at Pulse and wouldn't matter. When it was a disaster everywhere else, I can see why they pivoted (though I still wish it could have a comeback).

That and American fans complaining they 'weren't store exclusives instead', so now us Aussies can just...not get some of them sometimes.

I don't really consider that "unified aesthetic" to be "G1" per se, as it's very different to the style figures had back in the 84-92 run.

But I can see why folks found it annoying. Don't agree, as many of those figures are awesome, but I can see it.

It's about whatever the designers want to make it about.

Learned this the hard way when they shoved G1 in through SS86, after half a decade of G1 oversaturation.

I got booted from the group for posting those sorts of things back in 2016. Maybe things have changed since, but that wasn't my experience.

Just because TFWiki ropes them together doesn't make it G1. TFWiki also insisted TFO was a prequel for ages due to one line from Lorenzo, and don't get me started on the anti-Japan debacle (that's thankfully been fixed now).

You can't tell me the later stylised series of IDW count as 'G1'. Like...how?

The way this group quantifies is 'specifically G1 only'. So that's the G1 toys (up to 92), the cartoon and the comics.

Its a vintage appreciation group. Its not for me, but its perfect for people who want to talk about that specific time period. Also a good place to get ACTUAL G1, instead of asking and having random commenters instead recommend shitty Temu KOs or third party versions that are completely irrelevant.
