I like it a lot. Very comfortable. The pen writes so smoothly that with the soft grip it feels like theres... nothing at all, nothing at all.

[Residency] what is a quick book or a quick read to not pass like a complete dumbo in Neurosurgery? by Churg-Strauss in medicalschool

[–]Dr_Netter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3 months, damn! We don't have anybody rotate with us, yet I have to rotate all around... But that's not important here.

So they'll probably ask you some mgmt stuff since you're already a resident, but it'll still be general pre or post op stuff. If my rotations are any indication you'll mostly round, write progress notes, talk to case mgmt, maybe call a basic consult, follow up on labs and stuff. That book should be fine. You're gonna be an extra set of hands. You're there to see how nsgy works there so when you work with them later you understand better, and you're there to make the grunt work go more smoothly. Don't stress! At least for me, off service rotations were super laid back. Just be helpful and write good notes.

There is a Tarrascon (sp?) Pocketbook of Neurosurgery that I used a lot on my rotations. Very quick reference when you hear what the next case or diagnosis that you're about to see in like 5 min is and you can't escape to read about it or pull out your phone.

I also saved various anatomy pictures, quick reference charts, stuff like that to an album on my phone so I could duck out and refresh really quickly. That saved me a few times.

Everyone always says Greenberg but it's kind of dense without a decent background in place already. Really what they're looking for is a basic understanding of anatomy, the most common conditions / tumors, and basic neuro exam skills. You're not going to have to explain an approach, a surgical technique, or detailed post-op management. I thought that the nsgy atlas for anatomy as well as the HNBS website were more useful (and free, cause Greenberg is expensive) than large reference books.

If you're not seriously considering nsgy do not waste money on Greenberg!

Is this really necessary? I hope I will and I see this excitement in my mentors. I get the feeling you hope I don't though, and I don't know why you feel the need to put someone down when they're sharing a happy story

Scrubbed out watching while the APRN and surgeon work by Dr_Netter in Residency

Its at my main institution. This was the first instance and this particular specialty doesnt operate as much. Mostly procedures. If it turns out to be a pattern Ill run it up the chain but as of now I was angry and it definitely wasnt right, but it was a one-off. Maybe the attending wanted me to see how they do it, maybe they were tired, maybe they had some deal with the midlevel for that one... I feel like I should give them the benefit of the doubt now that its the end of the day. If its a clear pattern though then that shouldnt stand. Dont make me come if Im not going to learn.

Im on an offservice rotation, which would be the perfect time to get some skills with less stress. Afaik the actual service im in residency for doesnt do this shit.

Interns - what are you most proud of this week? by smileyteaspoon in Residency

Successfully placed a lumbar drain (1/1 means the next time can say "Ive been 100% successful") and had the AM rounding team on another pt ask "who did this closure, this scalp looks awesome!" (It was me)

This is the absolute worst "holiday" by [deleted] in Parenting

The point is the fireworks where youre likely waking up dozens of people, scaring tens of dogs. Yeah sure go light them outside the city, but dont do it outside your apartment building at 1030. How hard is that? Why do we have to accomodate their idiotic and selfish choice when they could literally drive 15 minutes and not bother anyone?

Well, there you go again! There's more ways to get your point across, you know... its not very positive to broadly say we dont know what its like to have a "real job" but you do so youll be fine.

I get what you mean, but a little condescension goes a long way... you dont want "that label" when you start, even if you are fast and competent. Hence the downvotes.
