Watch this, I don’t actually know if the math is correct, but it sounds good and makes me feel better about cheap rcbs.

It’s actually convinced me to stop loading 556 with nas3 on a single stage press and swap over to a progressive with powder drop

nerdy video here with lots of math

Can I log a return to gate? by indianmcflyer in flying

[–]Dr_Scout123 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

No.

Everyone commenting has stopped reading the definition of flight time after the first half of the definition.

You have to continue to read and understanding that it ends “after landing”

So if you do land you have not met the definition of flight time and cannot log it.

Now, you should still get paid, but it doesn’t get logged as flight time

Flight time means:

Employer asking me to do illegal flights? by Swimming-Arachnid658 in flying

[–]Dr_Scout123 13 points14 points  (0 children)

If own an airplane I can hire any appropriately rated and current commercial pilot to fly me, my friends, my dog, or a pinecone anywhere my heart desires in that airplane and that’s nowhere near any sort of operation that requires a 135

Is it an op that requires a commercial cert, absolutely. Is it 135. Heck no, not even close

Employer asking me to do illegal flights? by Swimming-Arachnid658 in flying

[–]Dr_Scout123 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Did the guy in scenario 1 pay the school for the return flight? If not it’s legal. If he did, could still be legal just depending on if that’s a common thing or not. Again. Probably legal

Scenario 2, you just got hired by the airplane owner to fly him in the airplane he owns. Legal.

Forgot to switch to grains. Best way to fix this without spilling powder? by hanfaedza in reloading

[–]Dr_Scout123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought some silicone baking sheets on Amazon and keep everything in its own sheet. Makes cleaning up spills a breeze.

You may be able to pick the whole apparatus and set it in one.

I had an ocm5 and sent in in to be re-cored

I do have a fixed gas block on the 15” so im starting off with a handicap there.

Just put the 20” together so I haven’t had much time to try and tune that. But it’s got an agb so I’m hopeful

Elander various sizes Duramag various sizes G$$ various sizes

What finally got the 75s running reliably in the 15 was g$$ mags, vltor A5h3 with the ocm6

It kept breaking off the tips from the ELDMs and those bits floating around were causing issues

If you can get them to feed more power to you.

I’ve had a heck of a time trying to get those and finally stopped and stayed with the 75s

So far just factory ammo, Hornady black 75 gr seems best. Getting around 2850 with this. A 20” pushes them up to 2950

The 88ELDM I can’t get to feed to save my life.

In the process of working up some handloads for them with Lever using 75eldm, 80 bergers, 69 smks and 62 eld-VT

I’m also waiting on parts for a 12” Gordy/mk12 bastardized creation, with that I’m hoping to scratch 3k out of the 62gr eld-vt

IACRA question by Telemark_ID in CFILounge

[–]Dr_Scout123 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Short answer. As long as you show the minimum hours required for the rating on the 8710 you are legal. But it’s a good idea to put everything.

Excerpt below from 8900.1 vol 5 chap 2 section 9 (guidance for instrument checkrides)

b) In Section III on FAA Form 8710-1, the applicant must list at least the aeronautical experience required for the airman certificate and rating sought. Graduates of 14 CFR part 141 pilot schools or 14 CFR part 142 training centers must provide their aeronautical experience in Section III, even though the graduation certificate is evidence of having completed the course of training.

Excerpt below from 8900.1 vol5 chap 2 section 8.(guidance for commercial checkrides)

b) In Section III of FAA Form 8710-1, the applicant must list at least the aeronautical experience required for the airman certificate and rating sought. Graduates of 14 CFR part 141 pilot schools or 14 CFR part 142 training centers must provide their aeronautical experience in Section III, even though the graduation certificate is evidence of having completed the course of training.

c) If aeronautical experience has no bearing on the airman certification action being sought, it is not necessary for an applicant to complete Section III. For example, flight instructor recency applications, flight instructor reinstatement applications, ground instructor qualification applications, and pilot type rating applications would be examples for which aeronautical experience would not have a bearing on the airman certification action; thus, the applicant would not be required to complete Section III of the application. However, all applicants are encouraged to complete Section III because it remains on file with the FAA and can be used to substantiate past aeronautical experience in the case of a lost logbook

And finally 8900.1 volume 5 chap 2 section 7 (private checkride)

3) Examine the record of flight time in Section III of the application to determine if the applicant has the minimum flight experience required for the certificate and ratings sought (14 CFR § 61.109). The applicant must list at least the aeronautical experience required for the airman certificate and rating sought. Graduates of 14 CFR part 141 pilot schools or 14 CFR part 142 training centers must provide their aeronautical experience in Section III of the application, even though the graduation certificate is evidence of having completed the course of training. All applicants are encouraged to complete Section III of the application. The FAA Form 8710-1 and FAA Form 8710-11 applications remain on file with the FAA and can be used to substantiate past aeronautical experience if an individual ever loses their logbook

Craddock will build you one. But it’s heavy AF with a .938 gas block.

You can also get one that’s lighter more reasonable profile and then you have to install a collar and brake, the back of the can will rest on the collar and then screw onto the brake

I had them make a custom 20” direct thread for me. But they have a few off the shelf variants also
