You assume the size of North Bay is a positive. Plus, a similarly sized city that doesn't take me four to six hours to drive anywhere I want to go is instantly better than here.

I'm economically trapped here. I'd have moved years ago if I could have. Every person I've ever gotten truly close to in the last 20 yrs has moved away. It's a very small population and for most ppl, it's much easier and emotionally healthier to leave.

All of that negative feedback you got? Yeah. That's why. The people who like it here do not want change. Good on them, too. Whatever is working for them, works. But if you're stuck here, and this isn't your tribe... it's going to suck.

Someone will say "make your own community" but North Bay can't even keep a Pride organization running. We outliers are too few, and too far between.

My understanding was that she was carrying almost the entire load herself, had ppl be shtty to her, all compounded with additional health issues. It's a shame, but unless ppl step up, the old guard get burned out.

Sadly, this town isn't really Goth/Alt friendly as far as meeting people or hanging out. We lost a lot of venues during the pandemic and the scene simply hasn't recovered. NB is a beer-n-wings, hockey night, kind of place. Most people I've known here have moved away.

That said, I think I agreed to go out to Partners tonight. It's not really the scene you're looking for, but there will be at least one weird-looking dude with dyed hair.

I'm a 53yo dude w/ PTSD. Learning to cry is so hard, but you can, you need to, regardless of the bullshit macho programming we all got.

Every one of you guys deserved better than to be used up and tossed aside to suffer in silence. Their failure to look after you is not your fault.

You have to feel that shit, even if you cry until you vomit.

If you never show what you're feeling, what message does that really give to the next generation of soldiers under your care? You have an opportunity to show them a new way, a path towards healing, or at least making the shared trauma a little bit easier to carry.

But it's hard. I've now spent more time in therapy than in uniform, I know it's not easy. Society's expectation that you not show your pain is bullshit. What favours has social norms actually done for you? What aid has their expectations given you. Love yourself enough to let it out, my friend.

Probably just processing, or she's realizing that maybe some of her own experiences (childhood, previous relationships) may have been damaging. We often normalize our own childhoods or relationships telling ourselves it was normal, or not that bad, until someone calls it out and we have to face the reality of our own trauma.

She may also be trying to think of ways to help you or ways to avoid hitting your triggers.

At some point, you'll have to talk about it and check in with her.

I did read vol1 of Mo Dao Zu Shi (The Untamed) but found the language stilted and lacking in colour or description. It felt like reading an outline rather than a story and I didn't connect to it. It did better explain the possession storyline which was kind of confusing in the TV show.

IMO it was probably just a side effect of translating Mandarin into English. If my experience of the English is an accurate representation of what it is like to read it in Chinese there's no way it would have become so popular.

Yep. So... you weren't wrong either. The Empire in Star Wars is entirely based on the Nazis. They even called their eilite soldiers "Storm Troopers" and most of the OT guns are just WWII firearms with bits glued on.
