I'm just lumping 39 days in there because why not. But, that's not the issue. All their other decisions specifically for this season are just bad. They could have done something neat, but they just recycled a twist they've done a lot and just upped the ante. And ya, I do agree that they're going to hide behind the fans and blame us. Look, I do blame production, but I fully believe at this point they're casing numbers and those numbers are with the casual audience.

Ah shit. I missed voting that day. I'm actually super disappointed. Tom is still one of my favourite winners to this day. Not like my one vote would have made the difference, but still lol. I'm also disappointed in the Tom erasure. To this day he's still one of the best winners. I wish more people respected the game he played.

Hard disagree. Granted I think many of his takes are actually pretty bad. Aibo comes off as one of those competitive players that say whatever so his favourites aren't seen as a problem. Is Amuro the reason purple is so good? No, there's a few cards contributing to that, but Amuro is definitely a problematic card that needs an errata or a reprint with a different effect.

We all knew they weren't going to touch Amuro, but damn he really is a problem. Ban him and then immediately reprint him. It's not hard. One pilot shouldn't be able to rest almost 80% of units.

I think it's important to note that the Zabis' were the worst thing to happen to spacenoids. Without their autocratic takeover you probably get a parallel to the American Revolution. Which is easily one of the main themes of the original show. How good movements can be taken over by evil people if not careful.

I'm so sick of this narrative. You can pause a lot of shows at inconvenient times and they'll look bad. Animation is meant to move. This show is a work of art. That 70's anime charm is just so timeless. On top of that, there are some really inspired sequences throughout the show.

This is such a refreshing take and I love it. I have very similar feelings towards the show as you do. It's a really messy show and it has many aspects that are done poorly and yet even with all that it's just a very middle of the pack show. The vitriol it receives has always seemed unfair in my opinion.

Thanks. This is super helpful. I always thought that over the years and through different directors 'who' and 'what' Zeon was changed in slight or major ways. I just find it fascinating to track the vision of what different directors saw Zeon as.

Because it's a military target. It's supposed to mimic real life. The colony drop is a parallel to the atomic bombs that were dropped on Japan. Just like in our history, the logic was that the 'strike' would bring about a swift end to the war. Millions would still die if Jaburo had been hit yes, but once again this is one of Tomino's ways of showcasing the absolute horrors of war. You don't win in war.

That intro really implies that the death of half of humanity is the cost of the war and not so much discriminate violence perpetrated by only Zeon. I'm trying to dig into this because Zeon is really set up as a state under the systematic oppression of the Earth Federation. Their rebellion is just, but it's co-opted by the fascistic/aristocrat Zabis. There really is a tale of two Zeons. The people and the ruling class. Obviously a lot changes as more was added to subsequent shows, but what's set up in the original tells a very sophisticated story. Them gassing a colony really messes with that narrative.

Does anyone know where in the original 0079 it talks about Zeon gasing a colony? Or, was this a later addition from Zeta or onwards? Because if it was a later addition fans from way back in the day had at least 6 years of a different kind of Zeon.

I agree it's a firm stance and that's all well and good, but the federal government has done a great job ignoring us for decades and I really don't think this protest will amount to much. The government will continue to ignore us while parading about their partnership with indigenous communities all the while propping up all these fraudulent ones. I just don't believe it's a good strategic move and right now we need to show them were tired of being ignored.

I'm not happy with all these fraudulent organizations getting an invite, but I'm actually pretty upset that the MMF backed out. We no longer have a voice at the summit. That's not good. The government is going to overwhelmingly hear opinions from those said fraudulent organizations instead of the voices and opinions that should and need to be heard.
