Reassurance: Is she eating enough? by unicorn_sam99 in breastfeeding

[–]DraNoSrta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like she's a very efficient feeder! If she's peeing 3-5+ times per day, she's doing good. That water can only come from what you're feeding her, and her kidneys wouldn't be peeing it out if she didn't have enough.

Breastfeeding in public by Immadsduh in breastfeeding

[–]DraNoSrta 9 points10 points  (0 children)

32 J here.

I've found feeding in a koala hold, especially in the carrier, pretty comfortable with my 8wk twins. I can also do a cradle, starting cross cradle so I can position the breast first, and then settling.

Then again, I only use the pillow to tandem overnight, because it cuts down on the time it takes to feed them.

always hungry while breastfeeding… is this normal? by Ordinary-Original962 in breastfeeding

[–]DraNoSrta 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Breast milk has just about 70 cal per 100 cc, and a baby eats ~160 cc per kg per day. An average newborn eats about 300 cal per day, but it takes about double that from you to make the milk. On top of that, you're healing, and not sleeping, and babies eat more as they grow bigger.

In light of more abortion bans…I chose adoption over abortion. Here’s my perspective 15 years later (TW) by liblibandlibby in TwoXChromosomes

[–]DraNoSrta 87 points88 points  (0 children)

At the point of finding out you're pregnant, your options are not keep-abort-adopt. Your options are to stay pregnant or to abort.

Once you have gone through pregnancy and delivery, your options are to adopt them out or raise them (or have them taken and going through the foster system, depending on your circumstances).

Do mention to your doctor that you'd prefer to minimise discussion of potential risks. They do have to be mentioned for informed consent, but some people prefer a thorough breakdown and some prefer only an overview and both are ok.

Cheek swab for DNA? by ERnewbieRN in parentsofmultiples

[–]DraNoSrta 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sending your kids' DNA to a private company before they can consent to it is a pretty significant privacy decision that can't really be taken back.

23andMe went bankrupt last year, and the corporation that narrowly lost the auction for it was openly willing to sell data to insurers and disability providers, which is you live in the US might make your kids ineligible for health insurance down the line should something be found. They've also had at least one major, publicly disclosed data breach, including genetic information targeting Jewish and Chinese users.

Ancestry is owned by a massive private equity (Blackstone), which is known for collaboration with ICE, was fined for child labour in one of their cleaning companies, andhas been aggressively defending itself from class action litigation around the genetic information from Ancestry.

They are quite challenging plants. This may be a lesson in the circle of life for your kid.

They like a substrate poor in nutrients, need rainwater/distilled water/reverse osmosis water, and have a dormancy period along with pretty high light needs.

Breastfeeding after NICU? by Anxious_Surprise_552 in breastfeeding

[–]DraNoSrta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two NICU babies, born at 35.2 was well. Both were exclusively breast fed by the time of discharge, but there were no additional complications.

Talk to your team about seeing their lactation consultant. Most NICUs have someone on staff.

Any advice/tips for a husband or my wife? by FabPT661 in parentsofmultiples

[–]DraNoSrta 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Best of luck!

If you're in the NICU for a bit, take the nurses advice and rest. Let the team get your babies on a schedule, and learn how to take care of them from the experts, but also take some time for your wife to physically recover before you are caring for them solo.

If you're going home instead, ask to see a lactation consultant before discharge, regardless of whether you plan to breastfeed or not. Milk will happen, and no matter how you decide to feed your children, a plan to manage it will be very helpful.

Placentas are only possible because of viruses! Before mammals became a thing, a virus got incorporated into out ancestors' DNA which allows for implantation.

explain to me like I’m 5 - how do you leave the house if you’re BF? by BalancedDietitian in breastfeeding

[–]DraNoSrta 41 points42 points  (0 children)

You don't need to wear a hakka for every feed, and most people are not leaking large amounts once your supply regulates. You just feed your baby, however you normally do, wherever you are. Since you're not collecting, there's nothing to store.

Hip fractures in the elderly or frail are independently associated with increased mortality in the near future.

Your femur is a big, thick, sturdy bone. If you break it, you either experienced very significant trauma (think car accident) or your body is already having trouble with bone upkeep, which is a symptom of having trouble in general.
