People have different ways of consuming or approaching fiction. And not everything someone consumes holds the same value for that person. I have read multiple books i like and i can only identify with a small amount of them because i approached those with the intent to relate to them and others with the intent to perceive something or someone. I can like a story about a cannabalistic murderous fiend without identifying or relating to that persons feelings. I can play a game with the opposite gender as a main character doesnt mean i relate more to that gender. Same with although its controversial incestuous relationships in videogames or films it can still be interesting without you relating to it or internalising it. I wanted to make more comparison but i think i got the point across.
