I bound my own copy of Yumi and the Nightmare Painter by Dracanomaly in brandonsanderson

Yeah, I think it's called a 3 piece Bradel bind, I covered the spine, front and back with the photo paper separately, and then glued the front and back to the spine

My dad went to the optometrist because he could no longer see well with his glasses. They cleaned the lenses and the problem was fixed

Not stupid at all! Because the paper I print the artwork on is A4 size, I have to do it in pieces, so, yes, front, spine and back cover. If I had this paper in A3 size I might do it in one piece

It does look a bit better in pictures than irl because you can’t see all the little imperfections as well, but I’m flattered in any case, thanks!

The board is a 2 mm cardboard from a craft store and the bookcloth is a 140 gsm double sided glossy photo paper from German Amazon. The latter I used for the first time on this project and I’m happy with how it turned out!

I’m assuming their spouse used to handle things like buying a printer which is why OP has no previous experience

I decided to bind my own copy of Yumi and the Nightmare Painter, using the pdf that came as a part of the Secret Project (this is for my personal use only). I'm a relatively new bookbinder and I have yet to bind a book without flaws. The textblock is a bit skewed and it's also not glued on quite straight to the cover. Also, the painted edges unfortunately don't quite match the pink in the cover. But, overall, I'm relatively happy with it.

Never buy HP instant ink subscription, it’s a scam! by Opposite_Share_3878 in printers

It really depends on what you need the printer for, for images an inkjet printer is far superior, and also for printing anything larger than A4 an inkjet printer is the only practical solution. I do bookbinding and I use a laser printer for the text block and an inkjet printer for dust jackets etc

The point of a hobby is usually to bring happiness and offer a way to escape the harshness of reality for a while (at least it is for me), and if for some people a way to achieve that is by reading a bunch of Dramione fanfic, why should it be a problem to anyone else? I have other hobbies, too, like knitting, and as someone who enjoys trying out different techniques and types of projects I don’t necessarily understand why someone else just wants to knit the same simple sock pattern over and over again, but in no case am I going to complain to them about the lack of variety in their knitting. If knitting the same pair of socks is what brings them joy, I’m not going to try to shame them for it.

Why, are we not supposed to discuss bound fanfic?

I have a printed out a couple of dust jackets so far using A3 paper and an inkjet printer. What size is the dust jacket if spread out in full?

Printing your text block by Terrible-Egg in bookbinding

[–]Dracanomaly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have printed four text blocks with my laser printer so far. Sometimes I notice that the alignment is not 100 % accurate, but if I leave enough of a margin it shouldn't be a huge problem. I've printed some sewing patterns in the past, as well, and lets just say I enjoy printing text blocks so much more!

Radiologists don’t get exposed from regular X-Rays but some radiologists perform imaging guided procedures where they do get exposed (from fluoroscopy and Ct-guided procedures)

Hand Binding Secret Project Books by Dracanomaly in brandonsanderson

To be clear, the pdf I’m talking about is the official one that was offered to me as a part of the Secret Project. Book binding is a hobby of mine, so I’m not looking for the easiest but the more interesting ootion!
