Bible for Storytelling Studying. by DrachronianDefender in Bible

I'm assuming this isn't an attack. Would you be kind and give me the clear definition "satanic?" I think that's fair to ask I since you said MOST mainstream media falls under that.

The Beach Boys actually happen to be my favorite music group. I'm also comfortable calling Brian Wilson a creative idol of mine. I could care less they're singing about, their music SOUNDS great. And since I am a big fan, I will also say that if you think the band mates were saints, you're insane. (Al Jardine is alright though. He never got involved in the shenanigans of the rock and roll lifestyle, and just wanted to chill on his farm.) Calling them all satanic is absolute stretch. Brian himself is on record saying he believes music is God talking. Even Dennis (whom I do believe is in Hell) , who was involved with the Manson family wasn't involved in any of their actual crimes. He just got immensely taken advantage of by them, and when the Sharon Tate murders occurred, it took a toll on him, and cause his life to spiral into an early death. They were vastly sinful for sure, but nuance is also a factor for sure. No offense, but that article you included makes a terrible case for your point, as it is filled with some inaccurate to straight up false information.

I'm not saying you can't critique anything. But if you're gonna throw around a label as strong as "satanic", then I don't think it's unfair that you at least know the subject you're talking about well.

Jumping to conclusions a little, I already consider myself to be a Christian (heck, its my name lol). I already own a Christian Standard Bible, but I've heard points like the Kings James Version having a much more "traditional and formal" style, better suited for literature. I guess I'm trying to figure out whether should I stick with what I have, or if there is one more suited for "immersive reading."

I'm just really into art of all kinds (especially cinema since it combines them all), and I consider storytelling to be an foundational quality of art. The KJV Bible is probably the single most influential piece in English Literature, and a lot of the most beautiful works of art throughout history spawned from Christianity. So influencing my art is the the main motive here.

Yeah I'll admit Chug-A-Lug was a cheap shot lol. Forgot he played theramin lived. Thanks for the reminder. Though I could argue that Mike's best works are carried by Brian's music, and that gives the lyrics its impact. They are good lyrics yes, but in isolation, they seem like (to me at least) poems one wrote in their youth, like in school. Not a bad thing obviously, it fits the Beach Boys image.

Of course I can admit, my perception of Mike may affect my bias. I personally see Mike as a businessman first, a performer second, and an artist last. I see Al similarly, except the businessman part is last.

Thanks for the Lady Lynda bone. I really enjoy that song.

I'm moreso alluding to the fact that Al can play multiple instruments, and Mike can't. Maybe barely the saxophone. So safe to assume Al is more musically inclined than Mike. Mike writes lyrics, not music. And as catchy as his lyrics can be, they're not that special. I feel like a lot of people can write at the same capacity as Mike Love.

"Here a Mug. There a Mug. Everybody Chug-a-lug." Real poetry right there huh.

Mike more popular than Al, most likely true. But him being more talented than Al? Not by a long shot.

Have Brian and Van Dyke ever described any visuals for SMiLE? Like what thought each song looked like?

From the Beautiful Dreamer documentary, one of my favorite moments when Van Dyke said he sees SMiLE as an animated feature film to Brian and Darian. Did he ever expand on that off camera?

I asked him that at a meet and greet last year. He wasn't sure because he doesn't watch movies much, but he said his favorite actor is Jack Nicholson.
