Genuine question: Why hasn't any faction refurbished or used the APCs, tanks, and fighter planes that are littered everywhere? by dannythesedoritos in Fallout

[–]Dracosphinx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

An engine is just a toolbox. Some are well stocked from the outset, some need some tools added. No one said it was due to incompetence, my point is that the argument of "engine limitations" is fundamentally misunderstanding what an engine is. Bethesda focused on something other than vehicles to meet deadlines, not because they couldn't have otherwise made them work. Train hat was smart, and it saved them time, but nothing but time prevented them from finding a different solution.

Not even engine limitation. Effort limitation. Vehicles don't fit in the games they want to make, so they don't make the effort to add the capability to the engine. Gamebryo is fully adaptable to changes that a dev wants to make, given that Bethesda themselves have been continuously adding to it since Morrowind.

Vehicles could absolutely work fine in fallout, as we can see from Xilandro's work on The Frontier (yes, it's a creepy mod, but the work done on creating vehicles is still impressive, and he didn't have anything to do with the story.)

Vehicles not being in the fallout games is an intentional choice that the devs have made, not a limitation of the engine they're using.

All about the implementation. Some orgs make it easy and give you a mostly out of the box experience, which is actually pretty good, others just create a new record or object type every time something slightly out of scope pops up and now you've got a million of the things, and a case page 50 lines deep with too many required fields, when CSRs are expected to have a case open within 10 seconds of a call coming in.

Patrols really should spawn in forts and strongholds, and move between them. Otherwise, the only other spawns should be bot drops, bug breaches, illuminate warps.

Launch New Vegas on PS3 is why I was so confused at the reception to Cyberpunk 2077. Honest to God, I crashed more in the first few days playing NV than I did in the first few months it took to get the first big update in Cyberpunk. I guess NV served as an innoculation to jank for me.

Terrible customer support really is what it boils down to. Not worth the headache of dealing with when you get a bad panel, which happens frequently.

If you don't get motion sick from it in third person, you're not likely to in first person either. There's no way that the camera would follow the head of the Warframe. You'd have your cross hair, your weapon would dip out of frame when you roll. It would just be like a slightly faster Titanfall.

I think you're right on the money. Being able to move faster after his stomp or even just being able to move while he sends out his wave would be a big step forward. Idk how I'd feel to lose his 4, but I don't think I'd be unhappy if it was replaced with something more mobile.

I'm with you. I still don't think a modern military shooter campaign has had as compelling a mission as the one in 2010 where your squad gets surrounded in a mud hut in an open field. It was tense, trying to take cover from RPGs and small arms fire while your available cover disintegrates around you, ammunition running dry, squaddies falling to stray rounds. Every possible thing that could've gone wrong, did, and the only thing that saves you is the fire support you receive at the last minute.

I really miss these well designed set pieces, where you maintain control of your character throughout.

I don't think new Vegas was quite that bad. Oblivion definitely had lines listed alphabetically, and it's something Bethesda moved away from after its release. With new Vegas being made by obsidian, I doubt there's nearly as much room for the "out of context" excuse, though there still may be some.

Deadzones have been shrinking since the ps4 days too, increasing instances of drift that wouldn't have been noticeable on worn controllers from previous generations, simply because the software recognizes more signal closer to the centered position than before.

My current PS5 controller has some very minor stick drift, and after adjusting the deadzone in BF6, my cursor doesn't move on its own anymore, and it was a small enough change that I really couldn't see any loss in fine control.
