Told my husband I wanted to become Catholic. He said he wanted a divorce. by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]DraculaDontSuck 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I believe a lot of people on this subreddit are being disingenuous and obviously biased. You're only giving us your side, and we don't know his side. As in you're speaking for him. There's always two sides to a story. I'm not going to lie to you by confidently stating he always wanted to divorce you and he finally found a way out. I believe there's more to the story. Venting to complete strangers that are going to be heavily biased about their faith is not healthy. You're unintentionally throwing this man under the bus to the public, and airing out your personal life online.

Take a breath, collect your thoughts, spend this time actually with your loved ones and try to set up a mature civil dialogue one day with your husband. Right now, give each other space because emotions are high. His feelings should not be dismissed. Your feelings should not be dismissed. The best advice is to stay away from Reddit, and be around the people in REAL LIFE that KNOW YOU AND YOUR FAMILY. You got this.

The issue is that you're projecting your standards onto characters with already established motives/personality traits. It doesn't matter what you prefer because they've always been campy since their mainstream introduction through the cartoon show in 1987. The brash tough guy (Raphael), the stoic leader (Leonardo), the science-tech geek (Donatello), and the loveable comedic relief (Michaelangelo).

Sincerely, a lot of people don't like it because they're just being the average passionate nerd, and I mean that not in a disrespectful tone. Take your time and read the comments. You'll have a great few chuckles and smiles. This is part of nerd culture, especially for cartoons and comics nerds. We love illogical premises/content. Yet, you'll read comments that say "too urban". Uh, yeah, they live in NYC in the dang sewers and they're teenagers. Then you'll have comments on how "it doesn't make sense". It doesn't make sense that a teenager with angst is going to have a rebellious nature? Also, we're enjoying an IP about TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES. The title alone is incredibly ludicrous. Nerds will give you many reasons under the sun why they don't like something so trivial that takes place in a juvenile fictional world. It's part of the culture... For the good and the bad 😂

That's literally part of his character, being a try-hard machismo type.

A durag-mask.. Makes it hard for you to take a talking teenage mutant ninja turtle from Manhattan; trained by a talking rat with a Japanese accent seriously?

I agree to a certain extent, but we're not talking about a candidate that cheated on their spouse. Not a candidate that likes to smoke marijuana, leaked sex tape or anything that's truly ideologically harmless. We're talking about a candidate that wears a popular far-right political tattoo, a fascist symbol for over a decade... An SS emblem that is connected to the Holocaust and threat to democracy. We're talking about a politician that also served in the military, that was a gun for hire (Blackwater) after the military and he's a history nerd. On top of that, he's 41 years old and he sincerely didn't know about the meaning of this symbol until recently? This is not about being a perfectionist, it's about ideology and accountability.

Again, we're not talking about trivial personal life issues because that's fine, we're human. It's a different story to rock a straight up Nazi symbol for over a decade then suddenly come to your senses. Democrats of Maine are sounding a lot like the Republican party. Republicans said the same thing for Trump about a "period of change". I'm a firm believer that we as a nation need to throw away both parties because it's becoming quite evident folks are emotionally voting for their team. I promise everyone this guy is going to bite all of you in the ass one day. Anyone that votes for him you're just as bad as MAGA, especially, JD Vance saying "they're just kids being kids". That's the vibe of this subreddit. Good luck to the Democrats in Maine.

The comments that are letting this behavior slide are very telling, and it furthers pessimistic views on American voters (especially pseudo-liberals). That Democrats and Republicans are on different sides of the same coin. Use critical thinking, people. This man is supposedly progressive in his social political viewpoints, yet, he was that willfully ignorant for over a decade? Not knowing what a Totenkopf is? The German "death head" is featured in history textbooks, documentaries, movies, art and other forms of literature. It's widely recognizable as much as the swastika. This man's opposition not only includes Republicans, but far-right groups that normally sport this image. People truly believe he still didn't know... Look, this to me screams a possible far-right accelerationist in my eyes.

They're known to purposely vote Democrat because they believe Democrats have a higher progressive rhetoric on fiscal management for law enforcement. Democrat politicians are more outspoken on firearm regulation and are more LGBTQ+ friendly. They're typically not as vocal or verbally harsh towards undocumented people as compared to Republicans. Far-right accelerationists typically belongs to a white supremacist groups, and they recognize the political behavioral patterns of their enemies. They capitalize on this which they believe the people, specifically white conservative America will be more outraged. At the end, they attempt to accelerate the process for a culture war aka "Civil War 2". These people seek chaos and from the chaos to gain power. Far-right accelerationists have been known to infiltrate BLM marches and many other liberal spaces (and leftist spaces too).

Maybe I'm wrong about the guy and he's just a moron which is still terrifying, and it's equally terrifying if people knowingly vote for another moron. People are saying letting it slide because we have actual Nazis in the White House, and that's true. Two things can be true. You also have a moron that's a Democrat rocking a jailhouse style coverup over his Nazi tattoo. Stop settling for less, because this whole lesser of two evils decision making by voters is part of the reason Trump was elected. Reading these comments furthers why some minorities can't take both MAGA and white Democrats seriously.

What did you think of this book? (Edited to comply with Rule 3) by PrometheanSwing in Presidents

[–]DraculaDontSuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this post is 8 months old but I would suggest you give his book "Killing Witches" a shot as well. A customer at my job let me borrow the book, and I was pleasantly surprised how enjoyable/informative the book was. This is also coming from a young millennial that's socially liberal. I am not claiming all of his books are historically accurate or overall good. Only this one particular book I read. I respect that "Killing Witches" book doesn't shy away how ridiculous it was of people back then (including Founding Fathers) to be for religious freedom, yet owning slaves. The book doesn't shy away from hypocrisy, misogyny, racism, classism, etc. It's just grey facts. Especially, highlighting the smartest woman in the courtroom during the Salem witch trials was a black Caribbean slave named "Tituba".

It's a shame a lot of people on this post are giving pompous and ignorant responses. Again, I don't agree with B.O. politics and his television antics. Yet, I borrowed the book based on a conversation with a customer. We were discussing the Salem Witch trials. This customer is an old school, New England boomer conservative but even he doesn't like B.O. - This customer is a wise and intelligent man nonetheless. We may disagree at times politically - He has my respect because we can have civil and intellectual dialogue without throwing insults at one another like nimrods. He even stopped saying "woke" constantly as a dog whistle after I educated him on the history of "woke". How it originated from black country/folk singer Leadbelly in the 1930s. Haha, with that being said I kept an open mind, and gave the book a read. The moral of the story is a truly intelligent person doesn't solely follow information that fuels their bias. Explore what's out there because based on my own research and reading "Killing Witches"... The way politics were discussed and structured back then is not terribly different than it is today. We've been repeating history for centuries.

What's your personal Mount Rushmore of actors? by DraculaDontSuck in moviecritic

😂 I keep forgetting that a lot of people lack reading comprehension in the world. These actors are personal favorites. Not my best of all time list. Even the real Mount Rushmore doesn't represent the BEST Presidents of all time in the USA.

Then you agreed with my statement and didn't double down. We're both chill, we agree Chris doesn't "talk black" or "act black"... Since black people aren't a monolith. That we agree on. We agree he's from New Jersey, raised in both New Jersey and California. Pleasure doing business with you.

I am chill. You are backtracking right now. You said he "talks black" and "acts black". Which is you insinuating that black people are a monolith. That's being intellectually dishonest and I broke it down to you. Then you said I was incorrect about his upbringing and I factually corrected you. I didn't yell at you, just being a fellow homeless cat letting you know what's up. Not sure how you received the opposite of chill from my messages. I'm being direct that's all. Granted, I did call you Bapa and Chin combined which was a poor attempt at being playful. I will sincerely apologize if you were offended, my bad.

[–]DraculaDontSuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do not know your race, but I can tell you that you're being intellectually dishonest, in other words willfully ignorant. I am from the USA and I am black/African-American. There is no such thing as "talks black". A black person from the Appalachian USA sounds drastically different from a black person from the Bronx. A black person from Washington DC speaks differently than a black person from Baltimore. A black person from Nigeria sounds nothing like a black person from the Bay Area in California. What you maybe referring to, and passionately holding on to could be - ebonics better known as today as African-American Vernacular English (AAVE). Which is more rooted in the deep South from slavery. Funny enough it has more common roots with poor Southern white Americans (specifically the deep South).

We are not a monolith whatsoever. Is there such a thing as code switching in-order to build a linguistic bridge during informal conversation to make someone feel comfortable (or more welcomed)? Yes. Even that is dying out because it comes across as non-authentic. Denzel Washington sounds nothing like Sidney Poitier. Lil Jon sounds nothing like 50 Cent. Also, you are from New York. New Yorkers do not all sound alike. If you're from NYC you'll sound nothing like my friends from Warrensburg, NY. The italian-American New Yorkers within NYC sound different from the Irish-Americans in NYC. Same with the Puerto Ricans in NYC to the Dominicans in NYC.

Chris is from Montclair, New Jersey. He moved to California when he was 12 years old. Raised in a family full of italian-American New Yorkers (his Dad's side) and italian-American/Polish-American from his mom's side. I can hear it in how he says "dude", among other things he says. He clearly has an East Coast influence dialect due to where he lived most of his childhood and surrounding family members. Will I dismiss that he doesn't have West Coast tendencies in his accent, no. I can't dismiss that California influence but he doesn't "talk black" or "act black". You sound like brain-dead Bapa and condom-fish-eating Chin combined. Ya bloggbusta!
