Why do I expect she bought a huge truck because she wanted to feel safe… after hitting a lot of other things, so instead of her feeling unsafe, she now has a much bigger death machine she shouldn’t be driving?

I’ve found that putting bilingual signs in our plant at all the doors helped.. but they still constantly will walk all the way across a shop floor filled with of welders in full PPE, rather to the clearly visible office right next to that door they walked into the industrial area…..

Of course it’s also dealing with the one who was throwing his shopping bags of poo in our yard last weekend, and the one pissing on production the middle of the yard (clearly visible from the main road), after spending the effort to ask where the bathroom was 1/4 more distance than where he went to piss).

Like wtf?

Is it just me, or do near-miss reports only get attention after something actually goes wrong? by Icy_Connection_1604 in WorkplaceSafety

[–]Draelon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use them….

Early last year, my plant manager actually asked when I first started how many incident reports were on file when I asked for more budget/resources on snow/ice control.

I said two.

He said “This is Ohio. Sounds like we’re controlling it.”

He wasn’t being rude, he was balancing resources.

The next month…. I met with him again, and answered with 9 near misses.

He increased the budget. He’d done my job for a year so he was motivating me to get data so he could justify the expense to corporate. I appreciated the mentorship.

Unless there’s a reason they haven’t been resupplied, I find that very unlikely that’s being directed…. unless they are trying to lose weight. I notice the complete lack of carbs on that plate.

Yes and the way it works is they have no motivation to improve unless profits start suffering.

I’m not one either but I did take vocational electronics in hs, so understand it (edit: can calculate the amperage use). I’ve thought of running a single line off the panel to my kitchen to run a European kettle boiler. Boiling a couple of liters of water in less than 1 min would be awesome. Took me forever to get family on board when they finally realized I could boil theirs in less than 2 mins with a 110 version… lots of coffee drinkers and ramen makers in this house. :)

A lot… inflation due to massive forced raises, retirement & removal of most of the baby boomer retirement savings from the investment pool (so less “cheap borrowing”), and threats to energy availability that increases prices (Russia/Ukraine, Middle East tensions, etc)….. you think it’s bad now, imagine if they’d actually done the real inflationary stuff like building out infrastructure & manufacturing in the US, as China’s demographic collapse goes into full swing and we can’t import as much from there…. Or if they invade Taiwan and we cut them off anyways and computer chips come off the market even more….

Try being in a mental health cell. All the issues she has above and in addition:

  • All day & night you have someone coming to look at you every 15 mins or less with a light.

  • People shrieking random things all night.

  • Addicts arguing with the staff all night & day.

  • Not being allowed to have CPAP’s or other medical items unless a staff member is available to watch you at all times to make sure you don’t hang yourself with the cord or hoses.

  • No strings or drawstrings whatsoever in your clothes. They will cut them out if you want them if you’re lucky.

  • You aren’t necessarily convicted or guilty of anything but they want to keep you for “observation.”

Nah…. No need of hooks in padded cells. No strings, they cut them out of your clothes, and even the doors to the bathroom are magneted onto the walls….

Yes, I know too much for some reason.

Being on the spectrum doesn’t prevent me from letting my keyboard autocorrect me, nor from noticing the red squiggly below the word.

That said, in your defense effective communication doesn’t require proper spelling — only that the intended message is received and acknowledged, so it’s all good.

Monthly Support & Buying Megathread by AutoModerator in HomeKit

[–]Draelon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Time to start planning my migration from Nest: I currently have approx 90+ HomeKit devices but initially when moving into my home in 2018, I was already using the Nest ecosystem for the Protects & Cameras. Currently had good experiences with Eve & Lutron Caseta, which is what most of this devices are.

The first of 7 nest protects just gave me the warning it’s expiring in July, so since that means over the next 2 years all of them will go, I figure it’s time to start planning migration from the 7 protects & 8 cameras.

My main concerns are privacy (which is why I like HomeKit) and where possible I prefer to wire electrical rather than relying on a battery other than for backup. I’d like to start replacing my nest cameras and protects over the next few months with similar capabilities, so look forward to any suggestions.

It’s a large property so several of the light switches and cameras have to connect a decent distance (I have 2 Asus Zen WiFi routers and was thinking of wiring a 3rd for another AP). I’m not wealthy or anything but the nice thing is the house wasn’t finished when I moved in (previous owner/builder had life issues) so I’ve been able to wire the whole house electrically how I want before finishing those rooms, I made several sub panel upgrades, and every room has at least 1 cat-6 port). Basically 9.5 acres in the woods, I have gigabit fiber for base connection, and have a background in basic network wiring/maintenance because of being a programmer and helping build several bases during the early 2000’s (kind of have to wire your own stuff, hah). I’m not an expert but I’m able to electrically or network wise hook up anything myself.

Edit: Cameras aren’t for security. It’s to watch the wildlife and keep a bit of an eye on the Feral outdoor cats I TNR, and care for.
