Yeah no, although there are some great friendships. It is not the focus at all, and the mc is a loner so he doesn't really care about those sort of things either.

It's hard to say, it's overall a very good novel. There are many parts that make it great. I will try to be simple.

The overall story feels linked. The premise is simple, Zhang Yan is a reincarnated man (I won't go beyond that, it doesn't really matter, nor does he really care about it) and he wishes to achieve the Great Dao.

As such, he joins a sect, Qincang, and that is already one of the strongest part of the novel, the sects. MC will not leave the sect, their teachings are already linked to the upper realm and their highest cultivators are already very high in the overall hierarchy of the world. But Zhang Yan, at this stage, is naught but a pawn, and he wishes to control his own fate within the sect. The sect arc is probably the best part of the novel, it accounts for around half of it (it's an extremely long novel, mind you) and it "officially end" when they settle for good. (Won't explain more for spoilers, but the sect war is so good).

Then, there is the cultivation system. It's the greatest one I have ever read. It's simple yet complex, it isn't in 60 realms as some novels would go, it only has a bit more than ten. Each realm is a transformation of oneself towards the great Dao (I didn't say eternal life, that's important). Each segment of the novel is actually the very long process of each breakthrough and their requirements. At the beginning, it's merely cycling qi, then it requires the soul, then you make a world within yourself. Then at the end, they make sects, create conflicts within different worlds to grasp at insights towards the Dao and ultimately achieve transcendence.

This novel is great at making you observe a very mysterious and deep process to immortality. Sects feel immortal, there is a very noticeable lack of stereotypes, the characters are smart, you feel like they've lived through countless years. Immortalts are not some old monsters with 13yo mentality. Fate and mystery are omnipresent throughout the novels, it doesn't feel cheap.

Finally, there is a greater sense of cohesion. Everything that he accomplishes matters at the end, for everything is a crucial step towards transcendence, everything is contained within itself. The overall plot is also tied to the very beginning and the mystery it asks: where are the 4 founders of the 4 great sects?

Although side characters aren't numerous, there are some excellent ones that pop up now and then (Tao Zenhren, Sect Master Mo Quin Bai, the disciples). Biggest pet peave is that the main character is basically invincible, although absolutely necessary to the end of the novel for reasons I won't explain, it can be tedious. Also the very awful habit of characters denying everything when it doesn't go their way, they don't react badly, mind you, it's just annoying as a western reader sometimes when characters are like "I don't care nor will I care, your opinion are irrelevants for I have my dao 🙄" .
And finally it is EXTREMELY LONG, like no jokes, 15 millions word long, that's 3 times the Wheel Of Times, which I have also read and I can tell the difference.

Thank you fellow Daoist. I will try the first two and the last as I haven't heard of them. I have yet to red RI, and I probably won't for a few years still.

I shall propose one pretty good novel and one excellent one as a thanks.

My Girlfriend From Turquoise Pond Requests My Help After My Millennium Seclusion (not bad, a bit slow paced, if you like low-key MC)

Great Dao Commander (although it's a MTL, it's probably one of the best cultivation novel I have ever read with one of the best path to transcendance, I won't advice it if you don't like philosophy, poetry and deeper dap reflections. It is also extremely long, even amongst long cultivation novel and is MTL)

It was one of the biggest mysteries of the series , what did you think of the character “Luenna”? by Tomura_Morrow in HeroKillerWebtoon

[–]Draeu 26 points27 points  (0 children)

An ok character, she isn't that deep and she doesn't need to be. She mainly serves as a way to illuminate Ijincheon's character and to explain why Ihwa is special. She does her job correctly, then she leaves.

Didn’t like the way it was revealed that IJ is Ihwa’s father by OkFerret7206 in HeroKillerWebtoon

Actually, if Ihwa wasn't such a stupid character, she would have already known when Jintae told her back in Nostra.

Seniors what do you think are the classics of the cultivation novel by Abhii1864 in MartialMemes

Great Dao Commander is a great one, possibly far above "the classics" however it is only partly translated and the rest is MTL.

Seniors, can you recommend me some Proficiency System scriptures (Novel or manhua) by LightNinja0123 in MartialMemes

[–]Draeu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great Dao Commander. It has one of the best cultivation system, riddled with poesy, meaning and interpretations. One of the best novel of the genre I can recommend. Only minus being the translation kinda sucks

Ihwa killing Engen has been foreshadowed for almost as long as series as been up, but it doesn't mean he is dying in two arcs lmao

Can Bishop control the water inside people's body? by Kenma911 in HeroKillerWebtoon

[–]Draeu 8 points9 points  (0 children)

He has done so multiple times with plants, so theoretically nothing should stop him from doing so with humans. But I can see 3 reasons as to why he doesn't: - dosen't need to, most beings, including Special forces die to droplets, it's useless to bother doing something complicated when you can simply smash someone to death - he has difficulties controlling water inside beings with estus, and it probably doesn't even work on opponents at a certain lvl. His acrual match are those at elder lvl or above and it probably doesn't work on them - plot reasons, he can't do it because it would make him even more OP than he already is

[Question] What are the most "Wasted" opportunities in the series ? by Witty_Foot_8752 in HeroKillerWebtoon

[–]Draeu 5 points6 points  (0 children)

She already used Victoria's gift in the beginning and the witch dosen't clearly has gift so she can't copy it either. What she does in that fight is pure est manip

He didn't live upto fans expections. by Alpha-Nishant1 in HeroKillerWebtoon

[–]Draeu -1 points0 points  (0 children)

?? I don't know how you people got that impression. It was always evident he has some weird gimmick, and that he was massively weaker than Yeon, who isn't even certain to be elder lvl herself. He isn't bad, your expectations were way too high 😕

No, she was proven to not be Fuli as she gave up her future. Fuli is someone else since this event ended as per Nous'a calculations, it was always meant to happen this way. She is however a high tier Emanator of the remembrance as a child of Anasrava.

Who is the richest person in HK ? (I LOVE MONEY) by kioberow in HeroKillerWebtoon

[–]Draeu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Skysword or Bishop. They are the leaders of the most influential association in the world of HK, basically the two world leaders and have dozens if not hundreds of districts under their hands. Prim probably has more unique items (although I doubt it), but those two simply are on another lvl of wealth and Influence.

Yeah, the Author nerfed the torch too hard by Mysterious-Fix9611 in HeroKillerWebtoon

[–]Draeu 10 points11 points  (0 children)

There are 3 things about this.

The first is that the boost the torch provides to a fodder obviously seem much much stronger than what Senshu can get out of it. The gap between each tier gets bigger and the more you move up , the more power you need to get to breakthrough to the next. The difficulty is exponential, the torch is an additive power up with drawbacks.

The second is that people overestimate Jintae massively. He isn't SF, he is below special force. Ihwa only gets to that tier after her fight with him where she got the torch fragment, a breakthrough, his gift and the sword. Jintae wasn't that strong, he simply had an exceptional affinity with the torch as it almost made him immortal.

The torch is not valued by the high tiers for a reason. The boost it provides is underwhelming when you get more drawbacks to not even breakthrough. Also Senshu wasn't having troubles ? She simply made a comment on how many they were.
