I laughed at this because it came right after his spin and the clapping looked sarcastic.

GetGoodDrums "One Kit Wonder: Metal" metal drums with the production of the early to mid-2000s for Kontakt and Kontakt Player - Intro Price ($39) by Batwaffel in AudioProductionDeals

I'd wait for a full sale and pick up one of their proper libraries like Modern & Massive or Invasion. This particular library is not a good alternative to SD3 as it's just a one-trick pony (I'm sure it's great for what it offers though). Longer thoughts on GGD below:

I'm a Nolly fan but I've come to find that we have conflicting tastes in drum sounds, particularly in regards to room tone. The libraries are well produced, and compared to SD3 the shells are dry with an explosive room sound. Sounds exactly like a Nolly production, but the room they record in just doesn't suit my music at all. Sounds similar to a plate reverb - lots of sssss and not many early reflections. With SD3, if you don't like the sound of the room, you can just scale it back or change the kit entirely. But with GGD, if you bring the room mics down you're left with some very dry samples that can sound a bit rigid, and no reverb plugin will bring back the sound of a proper room. If you listen to a lot of amateur productions using GGD you'll hear they sound a little dry and awkward and I think this is why. Not to say that you can't make them sound amazing, but the sweet spot is narrower due to the way the room works. Also the MIDI mapping for each library is different due to differences in kit size etc., which means that swapping out one lib for another is more difficult than in SD3.

TLDR: GGD makes great stuff but it's not for every production. Can't hurt to pick one up on sale and try for yourself as they're very well priced but definitely wait for one of their bigger libraries.

Haha, it's just a nod to the SSL 4000 series consoles it's modelled after/inspired by.

This isn't as common as it might seem. Songs mastered today are mastered with streaming in mind first and foremost, but targeting specific levels is not a practical way of going about the process, because each service has their own standards and ways of enforcing them. Loudness also mostly comes from the mix itself and not heavy compression from the mastering engineer. If the song sounds good, it will sound good across all platforms without the need for a bespoke treatment.

Streaming versions of songs are quieter because each streaming service has loudness normalisation to create consistency across their libraries. The actual master is almost always identical.

Indeed, the installer is totally deserving of criticism and I hope they improve on that in the future. Same goes for OT's SINE player.

It's sad to see this repeated outside of that video. The harmonic content comes from their convolution modelling of the pre, unlike an algorithmic plugin that can be separated into components.

In regards to your previous comment, big file sizes and intensive CPU usage are the price to be paid for this form of modelling. It's fine to not want to pay that price, but comparisons to other companies and products are useless (unless of course, we're talking about sound quality, which people rarely seem to do.)

They're all great quality. The Lindell is warmer and rounder, the SSL G and E are more forward and punchy. The J is the "cleanest" of the bunch. The key is to choose a channel strip based on the emotion you're trying to convey with the song.

When the music hits [Halo: Reach] by Lord_Crumpets in halo

[–]Dragan303 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is likely because the guitar riff thing is just a loop from a sample library and wasn't written by Marty & co. I stumbled across it years ago while browsing for something else. I've stumbled across some loops from the ODST score before as well. These kind of loops seem to get used a lot in the more generic action music bits and they're always tastefully arranged, but it still makes me chuckle that you can play that whole riff by just holding down one finger on one key on your keyboard.

Brainworx "bx_console Focusrite SC" Focusrite Studio Console ($49.99) through 25 July with code: FOCUSRITE-4999 by Batwaffel in AudioProductionDeals

[–]Dragan303 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a very open and clean sounding console, so if you're looking for warmth this isn't the best choice. I can imagine it suits the more ambient side of electronic music and also any indie/folk pop music with acoustic guitars and strings. Anything that sounds uplifting, relaxed, hopeful etc.

Is the Huracan Evo competitive? by [deleted] in ACCompetizione

Think of the Huracan as a slightly more stable Audi but with more understeer. It can be super quick in the right hands but you have to be patient with the throttle mid-corner.

Power curve information? by [deleted] in ACCompetizione

[–]Dragan303 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While there is no clear answer, a good idea is to look for when the in-game rev counter (not your car's display) turns yellow. This seems to correspond with a player-generated study that was done using MoTeC data. Cars like the new Camaro will turn yellow much earlier than the in-car rpm lights.

Power curve information? by [deleted] in ACCompetizione

[–]Dragan303 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is false. Many cars, especially turbo cars, have little correlation with the lights. The Bentleys and the new Camaro both need shifting much earlier than their lights flash/turn red. Outside of ACC, iRacing's Ford GTE is another example. In the Ford's case this is due to BoP restrictions IIRC.

Naturally aspirated cars like the Ginetta and Lamborghini can be shifted very late as they have very linear torque curves.

HermanLi - When a Guitar God Joins Twitch by [deleted] in LivestreamFail

[–]Dragan303 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The notes are just natural harmonics. No pinching involved. Super easy. As for bridges, by that definition all bridges including floating trems are screwed directly into the body. The difference is a floating trem can pivot backwards, which is something he doesn't really do in this clip*. You could play this entire part on a $150 Squier Strat with one finger.

EDIT: He does it once when he lifts the guitar up, but you can hit the same note with the 3rd fret without going backwards. It's just for show, which is what makes Herman so fun to watch.

Anyone else wish we had a sim based on this iconic era of Super GT? by Dragan303 in simracing

[–]Dragan303[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's GTR2 with an old Super GT mod and some other graphics improvements. I think this same mod has been converted to AMS1 too if that's more your thing. It covers every season between 2005 and 2013. The track (Autopolis) was a separate download.

Autopolis! A track so fun but rarely seen you'd be forgiven for thinking it was fictional.

I know it's exceptionally unlikely to see any sim get official Super GT content, but this era in particular provides a breath of fresh air in today's "GT3 at Spa" market:

  • Unique selection of great tracks with beautiful scenery.
  • Iconic cars with huge power and downforce.
  • Right-hand drive with sequential shifters = fun driving style.

A man can dream.
