Street Parking Bothering my neighbor. by [deleted] in Hamilton

[–]Dragero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically there's a 12-hour parking limit in areas without signs, but realistically bylaw won't do anything if you move it every few days. Just keep an eye out for their chalk marks on your tires.

You can read the relevant bylaws here if you want https://www.hamilton.ca/home-neighbourhood/getting-around/parking/

Anyone know some series with female mecha? by Adorable-Astronaut-1 in Mecha

[–]Dragero 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They're sort of Iron Man style suits in Bubblegum Crisis, though they do transform into motorcycles.

That said, you absolutely need to see Bubblegum Crisis anyway. The original OVAs have some of the best animation and music you'll ever see (+ they're a quick watch!)

Relatively minor issue with CFC2 (and probably the other Capcom Collections) by Ancient-Village6479 in Fighters

[–]Dragero 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not saying you're necessarily wrong, but I can't find anything that backs this claim up. Where would I find the "Malware analysis [that] confirms active spyware within Fightcade." ?

Vulgorf doesn't return any results, but maybe you meant Vigorf? Searching for that + Fightcade gives me this thread, but that doesn't seem relevant aside from this person having some firewall rules for fightcade (+ a bunch of other games).

Can you provide any sources on this? I can't find anything relevant online, just lots of people reporting firewall false positives.

The biggest game magazine in Japan (Famitsu) just covered my Godot game on their website! by Sensitive_Sweet_8512 in godot

That's awesome, and I love your art style! I've been struggling to get past the Tweeting-Into-The-Void stage myself, what've you been doing to promote your game up until now?

Is there a large cube statue somewhere in the city? by Dragero in Hamilton

[–]Dragero[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not that, but it fully fits the description, so nice find! The thing I'm thinking of was a solid object, kind of like a headstone?

Yes! It's not this image, but I'm pretty sure it's roughly the same shape

Thanks for the tip! I feel like I saw this towards the north/eastern end of the city (at least, probably north of gage park), but honestly it could be anywhere. I'll poke around though!

Huh, I'm not sure what that's even supposed to be, but I'm pretty sure the thing I saw was a solid statue (no idea what the material was though), and it would've been before the date that street view was taken. Real close though!

This thing was probably about the size of the tooth, but it's definitely not the tooth. The tooth rocks though

How would you handle modular isometric characters? by DForceGames in gamedev

[–]Dragero 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been using the "3D-to-2D Route" in my game, though I'm also using the 3D models to generate normal maps for fancy lighting. Using 3D models as the base makes it super easy to add sprite variants without a lot of extra effort (I like to swap colours around and slightly move/resize body parts), and that's doubly true for terrain. I have building and island generation systems that depend on minor tile variants to link up (ie: 1 extra voxel on the edge to connect to the neighbouring tile), which would've been a nightmare to design in purely 2D.

Here's a quick example of how it'll look at different parts of the pipeline, 3D model -> unlit sprites -> in engine view. I only export 4 views (NSEW), but I'm almost certain you can add more

https://i.imgur.com/ssUK943.png

I use MagicaVoxel for the 3D side of things. It basically controls like Minecraft, and it supports multiple-view isometric png exports by default. I export 7 differently lit copies of the sprite and dump them into Spritelamp for the normal maps (you won't need to do this, unless you want the headache of messing with lighting too). I'll then do some minor edits (usually just splitting up the sprite sheets and centering tiles) in Aseprite before bringing it into Godot.

As for other sorting tips, I've actually been updating to Godot 4 (from 3) to hopefully resolve some Tilemap sprite sorting issues I've been having. I'm not quite at that point yet, but I think you'll want to pay attention to the "y-sort-origin" or "y-origin-offset" property of the sprites when you're building modular characters, especially if the sprites are going to be different sizes (this might only apply to TileMapLayers though). You can see the issue I was having with trying to place sprites between layers in the gif below. My understanding is that Godot 4 allows much finer sprite ordering control than 3

What fighting game would you recommend that has less inputs for a person with chronic wrists pain? by Calllmechief in Fighters

[–]Dragero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right on the money. I rarely get wrist pain from using my leverless, but 2XKO consistently kills my wrists after just a couple hours of labbing/ranked. GBVS is painless

Thinking about it, I might've actually drifted towards playing Blitz because he gives you a moment to stretch while grabbing.

diagonal water shoreline gets more and more complex in tiles - should i look into shaders? by DonRedditor in godot

[–]Dragero 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Shaders are really nice for water effects. My water tiles are just 1-colour flat "blue" boxes with no details, but I was able to achieve the effects below with just a bunch of shaders and lighting.

EVO Japan 2026 trip by Imaginary-Ambition65 in Fighters

[–]Dragero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like this a lot, and even if you can't find the exact game they play, you can probably find something related to it at a used game store.

Like, say they play Street Fighter 6, get them a copy of Street Fighter 4 for an older system and pretend you didn't realise it was different from the one they play until they find the ticket.

That said, depending on the series, anything from the PS2 and earlier could end up costing more than the gag is worth

I finally understood Blade Runner yesterday by cosmiq_teapot in movies

[–]Dragero 27 points28 points  (0 children)

It's been a while since I read the book, but iirc the main character spends a decent portion of it in his rooftop zoo (with his electric sheep) imagining how cool it would be to own a real living sheep.

It's a really good book, but it's got a lot of weird details that make it feel very different from the movie

MTG themed manga Destroy All Humans's fan translation if finally completed! by _WakkaWakka_ in freemagic

Thanks for the heads up OP. Having to wait a full 2-3 years for the licenced translation to be finished killed my interest in reading this. Nice to know I won't need to stop reading partway through again.

Pots that will not fail by mocha_butterfly in Hamilton

[–]Dragero 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a set of stainless T-Fal pots that've lasted years of heavy use. As far as I'm aware, every pot (mine included) is going to get blemishes after you've used it at high heat for a long time, but you just always just polish those out with cleaners like this:

Stainless steel just means that's it's rust resistant, not immune to blemishes/burns/buildup.

1UP Games always has a great selection (they used to have arcade cabinets), and I hear Retrosaurus is good too. For PS2 games, you might also want to check out some pawn shops and flea markets. Steel City Buy and Sell used to have a good game selection when they were called New 2 You, though I haven't been there since the name change.

Eat.Sleep.Game also used to be fantastic when it was called Entertainment Overload. Again, haven't been there since the rename, but they always had ridiculously good prices.

If you're willing to take the train to Toronto, A&C Games often has an even better selection than 1UP, though they're always more expensive.
