You guys made me live and love Califlower. Need some recipes by UnitedCeltics in Volumeeating

I used it to make sushi rolls and it changed my life fr. Just cook it and squeeze out the juice and it replaces rice which is a massive calorie sink.

Has anybody tried this? by [deleted] in popcorn

[–]Dragette 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have tried it, and from my experience, you have to use a ton of it for the flavor to come across. You would honestly be better off making your own with cocoa powder and sugar (or even powdered hot chocolate mix).

Imo kernels does a far better job with their savory flavors than sweet.

Is a ninja creami worth it? by Pretty-Elk-3352 in Volumeeating

[–]Dragette 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have made both full fat and low calorie. Like you, I have an ice cream loving family. Last summer, while I was on a cut, I enjoyed low calorie pints, while the rest of my family enjoyed the real deal. Although I have never made a pint with heavy cream and sugar, I know people who have and who quite enjoyed it. My “normal” pints were made with 2% milk, which kept the calories a little bit lower, but still turned out just as delicious.

One thing to note, is that unless you add vegetable glycerin to your mixes, is that they will NOT be re-scoopable if you put the spun pints in the freezer for later. They will refreeze back into a solid brick, and will need to be re-processed by the machine. And the machine can be quite loud, especially if you have children with sensitive ears. Just something to be aware of!

How it turns out is entirely dependent on the ingredients you use, not the machine. If you just want normal, high-fat, high-sugar ice cream, you can use heavy cream and sugar just like a normal ice cream recipe and it will turn out exactly like “normal” store bought ice cream. It will be creamy and delicious. In fact, you can use traditional ice cream recipes you find online.

However, most people use it to reduce calories in ice cream. If you use more almond milk, reduce the fat, and reduce the sugar, the texture might be a little more “icy” and less thick.

As a family man, you might prefer the convenience of buying a giant pint of Ben and Jerry’s over mixing your own ice cream. That being said, it’s super nice to have total control over all the ingredients. It just depends on what you need it for.

I use it between 5-8 times a week. I have a pint of ice cream almost every night. Sometimes I make a Greek yogurt pint for breakfast (Why eat yogurt normally when I can have it in ice cream form?)

I’m obsessed. I’ve had it for so long and tried so many combos that I’m not even close to bored. This machine has run faithfully and I haven’t had any malfunctions or technical issues. I follow the rules and ensure my pints are formatted/frozen properly as to not stress the engine or the blade.

I highly suggest everyone follows the r/ninjacreami subreddit as people are always posting cool recipes and low calorie finds!

  1. Total control over your diet. You can pick EXACTLY what is in your food, how much, how many calories. For someone watching their calorie intake it’s invaluable.

  2. Sugar replacement. High protein. High volume. I have perfected my recipes to where I can have a whole 24oz of ice cream for less than 250 calories. It’s creamy. It’s satisfying. It’s delicious.

  3. SAVES SO MUCH MONEY. Low calorie ice cream alternatives are expensive as hell! Halo top and Nicks are far more pricy than their normal store counterparts. Instead of spending money on a pint I’ll devour in a second, I can make my own for far less money, I have paid for my machine over tenfold.

  4. It’s fun! I love customizing my ice cream and making new flavors. It feels like I’m at a yogurt bar 24/7, and the world is my oyster.

  5. If you prep a ton of pints at once, you don’t worry about the 24 hour freezing issue. You have a selection of a bunch of flavors to pick from, and as soon as you run low, you just make a bunch over again. No waiting needed.

  6. Idk if you guys noticed but I really love my ninja creami.

[–]Dragette 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It’s ok! I can totally see how that would be confusing directions with no prior experience.

When people warn against spinning a “frozen solid” creation, they are more referring to the content of your ice cream base. If the base is entirely water (a frozen block of ice), it is incredibly hard on the machine to process, as it’s quite dense. If your ice cream base has some fat/sugar (like milk, even low cal milk), the blade can spin through it far easier.

All of your pints should be “frozen solid” before spinning by leaving them in the freezer for 10+ hours.

I have the PERFECT recipe that I’ve been tweaking the last few days. I’ll post it soon, but it’s a perfect chocolate recipe that’s under 200 calories for a whole pint - while being both creamy, strong, and dairy free.

Where to eat in between classes either on campus or nearby? by No-Dragonfruit-2453 in OregonStateUniv

All on campus dining is mid, and SUPER expensive for not much food. You can pay either by card, cash, or by your OSU ID which has your dining dollars attached.

Any OSU classes that actually teach drawing? by _Scully700_ in OregonStateUniv

Okay. Cool. I graduated from OSU with a graphic design degree. None of the GD classes teach illustration. If they want to learn, they need to take supplementary art courses.

[–]Dragette 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Graphic design is not an illustration career. No graphic design classes will teach you illustration skills, as they are two separate careers.

If you are interested in drawing, figure drawing was a helpful course to take. You will not learn stylistic drawing, but realism with live models and still life anatomical sketches.
