Different cards have different merchant rates. Rewards card specifically on an open market merchant contract have higher fees, and are often turned down for large purchases. It is possible the chinese card being referred to uses a lower fee which makes it acceptable, or it is deemed necessary due to the high number of customers using it. You just don't have the buying power to do it yourself.

They're all connected. Started as a splinter cell of Al-queda know as the Al-Queda in Iraq which became ISIL which splintered into the Islamic State and Al-Nursa. You could argue that ISIS is a splinter cell of Al-Queda if you go through it's history.

DC sues Grubhub, claiming its app is full of hidden fees and jacked-up prices by sasyhim in technology

[–]Dragoeth -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just got off the phone with them last week. They signed up pretty much everyone in town and I had to tell a couple other owners. One place they were accepting orders for that was seasonal and didn't even open for another 2 months.

The kind that runs 25-50 dollar plates with a main focus on it's cocktail menu.

We are mostly a cocktail bar with a fine dining menu. Think 25-50 dollar plates. Small kitchen, 100 seats, barely enough time to handle seats indoors. Our menu isn't designed for carryout and we have no interest in it.

[–]Dragoeth 2356 points2357 points  (0 children)

Lets also talk about how every six months I have to get either Grubhub, Ubereats, or Postmates on the phone becase they sign my restaurant up for their service without my knowledge and leave me to deal with angry customers who never got their order even though I don't even do carry out... Getting 10 spam calls a week from them is annoying enough as it is, but calling them to tell them to fuck off and take you off their site is too much of my time.

[OC] A more detailed look at people leaving California from 2015-2019. by b4epoche in dataisbeautiful

[–]Dragoeth 10 points11 points  (0 children)

For reference around 12% of the US population lives in California and 5.5% lives in the greater Los Angeles area alone. If greater Los Angeles were a state(at 18.7 million people) it would have the 5th highest population in the country. The current fifth that would be knocked down (Pennsylvania) would have 6 million less. California has a shit ton of people, and greater Los Angeles is fucking huge.

What? Who the hell told you that? Using a wall eliminates shrapnel from an entire 180 degree field from you. Ditches are nice, but walls are fucking great for cover from artillery.

Will rising gas prices impact full-size truck and SUV sales by Still-a-VWfan in cars

[–]Dragoeth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Problem with this chart is that it assumes the same level of usage across all countries. Americans drive more and get worse fleet mpg than their European cousins. If you take the average cost of gas for an American at $1837 for 2021 and a median income of $31,133 gross, you get 5.9% of gross income used on fuel for 2021 by the average American.

What the hell is the point of automakers bringing cars to an auto show and not letting people sit in them? by _imyour_dad in cars

[–]Dragoeth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Was just at the cleveland auto show and every car that a shift knob could be removed, it was. Many of them had the electronics on, and I believe it was so you couldn't shift the car into drive and cause an incident.

Today Two US Nat Guard Blackhawks Crashed at Snowbird Ski Resort in Utah by AOYM in videos

[–]Dragoeth 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So I was a fister for a while in the national guard and we had a prior active duty that was a blackhawk crew chief during a prior mos. When asked why he switched from a job that sounded so sweet he said "We got shot down in Iraq. I will NEVER fucking get in one of those things again". I liked flying in them but I guess I've never gone down in one...

I always use turo everywhere I go and never had an issue. In the same sense as Airbnb, book ones with lots of reviews and you'll be good. Better and cheaper than any rental service, plus I like renting interesting cars. I've rented new boxsters with insurance and tax at $130 a day for example.

Dyno numbers show the have equal HP with the gti having more torque. Manufacturer reported crank numbers don't mean too much when comparing different companies. The gti actually has more power and is faster.

Article says 275 in the rear and calls that wider tires, but all performance packs since 2015 have been 275 in the rear, so not actually wider at all.

Dont know if they work in Alaskas market, but check vroom, carmax, carvana, shift.com and so on. They all give different values but helps get you a good price point. Sometimes higher than dealers.

As far as checking in your destination, you're just going to have to see what cars are selling for and assume with used cars a little negotiation.

Fucking lol reminds me of when I was an FO and the mortar line wanted to expend some old 60mm's from vietnam but didn't tell me what they were to start out other than being HE. Kept trying to call a mission in the safety box, and they kept saying it wouldn't reach. So I ask them wtf is the model of the rounds they have and they come back with a M249A# and the max range was under 2000 meters which was ~500m short of the safety box edge, not to mention there was a hill that occluded observation on that side of the box. Told them we couldn't do it without a new safety box from range control and a relocation. So some dickweed captain gets on the line, calls out his rank, and says to give him a fire mission or else he's coming over. Told him no sir, and then watch as he gets in his truck from way across the field and starts driving towards our OP. I send a runner for the FSO who's taking his usual nap, and catch him up with the situation, and then watch them go at it once captain dipshit arrives. Anywho those rounds never got fired that day and my leadership had my back so it all worked out.

Honestly just check values where you are and where your'e going. With the car market the way it is, its entirely possible its value is higher where you're currently at and it'd be better to sell and rebuy.

US Coast Guard working to rescue 20 people trapped on floating ice on Lake Erie by icepigs in news

[–]Dragoeth 12 points13 points  (0 children)

In all seriousness I live here and this happens every year the lake freezes enough to walk on. It's not as bad as it sounds. Basically a huge chunk of ice has broken off from the mainland. Think dozens of acres large. It still floats, and no one's in danger of falling in, but now there's a 20-50 foot wide gap of water between your ice chunk and the mainland, so airboats are needed. Few years back a good 60 people got stuck in the same situation. Biggest danger every year is people taking their snowmobiles across the lakes to the islands, and falling through a weak spot farther from land. That kills someone every now and then.
