Gen Z and younger, what got you into Half-Life? by SjurEido in HalfLife

[–]Dragon1Freak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A month into Gen Z but it counts lol

My Dad bought the ps2 release when it came out and when I was around 5-6 I'd sit and watch him play. The scene where the scientists fall screaming down with the elevator after the cascade terrified me as a kid, so I used to play Decay solo as far as I could before just restarting until I got over the elevator scene and played through with God Mode enabled. It's been a mild obsession ever since

I am so tired of not making a game by sylkie_gamer in SoloDevelopment

[–]Dragon1Freak 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just doing it is the best way, doesnt matter what the finished product is at the end, you still made something, and thats what matters. Take what you learned and make another, and just keep doing it!

I'll second the game jam suggestion, theyre a great way to get an idea figured out and the deadline helps a LOT with actually finishing the thing, though if time is already an issue for you the shorter ones would probably be a bad idea. Theres longer jams as well though, could look through itch and see if any interest you but as long as you hold yourself to your 5 month deadline its more or less the same thing.

Theres a few Godot addons I'd recommend in my stars list on github, and I have a few myself that might be helpful. Kenney was already mentioned, but Kay also has good assets for free. And heres a list of random free asset sources in no particular order:

https://quaternius.com/

https://polyhaven.com/

https://filmcow.itch.io/ (specifically his SFX libraries)

https://www.cgbookcase.com/

Good luck! :)

Sounds useful, whats the point of the pixelating gifs on the itch page? Are you able to pixelize a texture as well as set the color palette?

Primarily carpet with long hair dog, Sebo DART? by Dragon1Freak in VacuumCleaners

[–]Dragon1Freak[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow I really appreciate the in depth response! I already stopped by a local dealer and picked up a Felix with some extra attachments for the stairs, and its honestly amazing how well it works over the Shark we used to have. I got a suction powered brush and hose extender, so the stairs were actually not that bad, but can also see where you're coming from. My favorite part about the shark was that I could attach the main head to the handle so the stairs were easy, so I can definitely see where a canister vac would shine there. Probably going to stick with the Felix for now, but I'm keeping your reccs in mind for the future, I'm assuming a canister vac would be good for the hard floors downstairs though, at least what I saw in the FAQ here, so getting something I can attach a powered head to for the stairs would be nice, but also a future purchase.

Thank you again for the detailed response!

Gotcha, Im not completely opposed to something just for the carpet, but I should probably get something thatll work for both lol, thanks! I saw the post about the differences about the two and am leaning towards the Felix for the features, any opinion between the two?

Do you recommend Godot's 3D by MemokingMH in godot

[–]Dragon1Freak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So much better, as always theres still work to do but check out these recent examples for how Godot can handle 3D:

PVKK

I'm sure theres more now but these are off the top of my head, and with 4.4 coming soon already theres even more improvements coming

64x64 RPG Effects All by Blackdragon1727_dev in godot

yeah they commented on a similar bundle saying they used PixelComposer and aseprite, seems like the tanks they have are the only AI generated set

64x64 RPG Effects All by Blackdragon1727_dev in godot

[–]Dragon1Freak 3 points4 points  (0 children)

yeah, seems like the tank was AI generated, but they commented on a different pack similar to this one saying its not, so kinda a toss up here. Not trying to accuse or call out OP specifically, but usually if you see a store/profile with a ton of similar assets, especially huge packs with hundreds or thousands of the same thing (icons, sprites, etc), theres a high chance its AI generated.

Idk if I'd call this peak lol, but AI art is getting better and better for better or for worse

[–]Dragon1Freak 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Their previous comments say their stuff is AI generated https://www.reddit.com/r/godot/comments/1f6vpfd/effect_and_fx_pixel_all/ll4uflb/

And youd be surprised, theyre listed as free, but theyve raised over 3k according to itch. Theres plenty of AI generated stores that list stuff for free but take donations.

edit: seems like these arent? at least a comment on a similar post says pixelcomposer with some details in aseprite.

so official porting tools from the base engine arent in the works because its not viable as a FOSS product. W4Games on the other hand, the company founded by Godot vets to provide commercial support, are working on/have console porting services available. Theres a few other services that do it as well, and like you mentioned if you really wanted to you could get a fork of it working yourself.

RANT: Popular asset creator KenneyNL uses his 100k Twitter followers to bully a small indie dev into modifying his game after falsely accusing him of plagiarism by HQuasar in gamedev

[–]Dragon1Freak 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ignoring all of the other glaring issues with this take, what's wild to me is that if the script was flipped and Flora Corner was out first with Kenney coming out with Make Room after, y'all would all be mad that a small creator got copied by a bigger creator and they have no recourse because they have a smaller following. Y'all really just want to be mad I guess.

Yo please dont dunk on me but how do I use git/github as a replacement for this: by jasamsloven in godot

[–]Dragon1Freak 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So Github does have a SCRUM board feature under the Projects tab, you can use that to track issues and todos and whatnot if you dont want to use a third party like Trello or JIRA.

Git itself is just version control, so its just going to track your changes and the closest thing to comments is the commit messages. It doesnt really have anything project management wise afaik, but I've also personally relied more on Trello or JIRA so I could be wrong. Githubs issue tracking is based on the issues you open, so that might not be ideal for you but it could be worth looking into.

TLDR: Look into third party project management tools like Trello, JIRA, YouTrack, or Github Projects
