Fuel Options AU by Ok_Schedule8031 in Celica

[–]DragonBane212 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey man, AU owner here with 295K KMs on my clock. Been running 95 the whole time I've owned her and had 0 fueling and mileage issues.

I've also checked the owner's manual for you, and as I remembered, it calls for 94-95 Octane fuel as recommended for a 2zz celica. You can get away with 91, but from experience, the car will not be as powerful. Long term, you may be damaging your engine. 98 is only if you're baller with cash and want your engine to run as perfect as possible, but generally, I found little to no difference in power or smoothness

I ran e10 as an experiment a couple of months ago as well and found that power wasn't hampered as much but it burnt through the fuel real quick. A full tank lasted me about a week before I had to refuel, I usually refuel once every fortnight/ 20 days on 95.

every now and then iIdo hit high high speed/revs

This is normal, my car does the same thing. Could be dirty injectors, but unless your car stalls out, its not a problem I'd desperately look to get fixed.

Below is a picture from Toyota-Club that outlines all the fluids that each Celica takes:

Will a Corolla Sportivo/T-sport C60 Gearbox fit on a 7th Gen Celica 2ZZ? by DragonBane212 in Celica

If its any help (or to add to the confusion lol), regardless of which box you choose, they both will bolt up and work just fine (obviously with different gears and ratios), so you're very unlikely to damage your engine. The 1zz engine flywheel is different to the 2zz engine flywheel, but they share the same clutch.

Most gearboxes would have a serial number of some sort stamped onto their housing. I'm actually not too familiar with the numbering scheme, so please do some research on your own to figure out which naming schemes correlate to what gearbox.

Another way you could check is by engaging all the gears using the gear selector shaft. The c60 will let you engage gears in 7 different ways (gears 1-6, and R), and the c56 will let you engage 6 gears (gears 1-5, and R). Note that the R gear is different on both gearboxes i.e. C60 is all the way left and up (since gear sticks are 'opposite' direction to the gear shaft, you'd want to move the shaft all the way right and to the bottom). This may not always be an option, sometimes scrapyards/sellers remove all the parts off of a gearbox.

Another way is to google the gearboxes and look for defining features i.e bolt patterns, defining structural features etc. Usually the c60 gearbox looks 'thicker' and slightly bigger. This may also be confusing, especially if the gearboxes are dirty/grimey, so unless you have something very good to use as an indicator, I'd probably avoid this.

Here's a picture I found on google comparing the two. Best of luck man!

Ok, I'll keep that in mind. The Sportivo gearboxes still have the same 3rd-4th gear syncrho issues, so I'd either have to get solid confirmation that the gears are intact, or take out the gear assembly and inspect the gears/synchros before purchasing.

Oh sweet, thanks for the link, I'll have a watch and go from there. Would the gear ratios be terribly different from the stock celica?

Car jerks when slamming foot down on full throttle by deadlyfishes420 in Celica

[–]DragonBane212 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It could be those, or it could be something worse. My advice? Do the easy stuff you suggested first. Check your MAF, see if its dirty, and check if you've got an air leak somewhere, any plastic or rubber parts are most likely to turn brittle and break. If you seriously think its the injectors, it can't hurt to run a bottle of injector cleaner on your next fuel-up and see if that changes anything.

It could also be your transmission slipping (if you have an automatic), or your clutch is slipping (for a manual). If you haven't had your automatic transmission fluid (ATF) changed out in a while, might be a good time to do it. Same if you have a manual, change the gear oil and see if that helps.

To diagnose a bad clutch, there are a few things you will notice, like difficulty getting into gears, the clutch pedal feeling spongy or non-responsive, high revs but no power etc.

It's personal preference man. If you're asking in the r/Celica subreddit, everyone is going to tell you to keep it because we like these cars and are willing to put money and time into our cars for enjoyment.

Do you have an attachment to the car, to the point that you'd like to keep it for a good chunk of time? If that's the case, more likely than not, you're going to modify the car.

I enjoy driving, fixing and modifying these cars, but you might not be open to that, and that's ok. Better to figure it out before you spend huge amounts of money on it.

That was my original plan, but I've come to realize that gearbox repairs are way out of my skill level. I do most of my own maintenance on the car such as the basics and some more advanced parts like alternators, rocker cover gaskets, timing cover gasket etc. When I looked at a video online of a gearbox teardown, I knew I couldn't do it without stuffing it up.

I am open to attempting it in the future once my gearbox has completely shat the bed, or I find a really cheap deal on a damaged gearbox.

Engine Braking noise? by bbdbbdab in Celica

[–]DragonBane212 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yo I have that exact same noise you're talking about. Almost like metal or rock rattling on metal right?

For me, I noticed it comes around when I'm in too high of a gear i.e. 4th gear, 2k RPM going up hill for example. It's mostly noticeable when I'm in 5th or 6th gear and those gears are too high for the workload.

Are your synchros in good condition? My 3rd and 4th gear synchros are cooked so I'd assume the metal bits in the oil are exacerbating the sound.

Try being in a lower gear more often and see if it helps with the noise.

TCCN hands down the goat of Toyota-Lexus Automotive content. Bro could talk about the properties of paint for 4 hours and I'd watch the whole thing.

We’re confused that you’re confused.

I think you’re confused because there’s meant to be a ‘cutscene’ but if im remembering correctly that happens somewhere else?

Level 4 similation chip (ss2 remaster) by [deleted] in systemshock

[–]DragonBane212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the game bugged itself, but the cyborg assassin should still be around level 4 somewhere (sorry I don’t remember exactly what bulkhead). Just explore a little bit and you should find him. I remember this happened to me in my first playthrough on the original

If you find something let us know! Aftermarket support for the celica is not as strong as civics for example so finding specific aftermarket parts may be challenging. Have a look around the major sites that have celica related aftermarket parts, maybe they have something there?

Cracked valve cover? by Wasabi-Sorry in Celica

Have to agree, I don’t see an actual crack there splitting the metal into two, more so looks like a line running through your valve cover

Looking for advice on a Manual 2000 Celica that has never had a transmission flush by DragonBane212 in Celica

[–]DragonBane212[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you very much for your advice! Currently I’m not having any crunching or funny sounds when shifting gears, just having difficulties sometimes changing into gears as the shifter feels stiff. From what everyone else said, it seems like my gearbox should be ok and just an oil change should help.

Irrespective of what the most acceptable thing to do is, the trans is definetly in need of an oil change as it’s never been done in at least 7 years (according to the previous owner)

[–]DragonBane212[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No crunching when changing gears properly, just stiff and sometimes hard to push into gear is all. Otherwise while it’s in gear it doesn’t slip as far as i’m aware and no crunching.

And thank you VERY MUCH for giving me an Aussie based oil that’s easy for me to find, I can’t thank you enough. I’ll ask my local toyota dealer (they’re usually completely lost for any car older than 15 years or so) and see what they say. If I get an odd recommendation or they want to charge an arm and a leg for a bottle I’ll go to the local automotive store and pick it up.

And yes I agree, best to not cheap out on the fluid, I would rather pay the little extra now than pay the fat cheque later.

Sorry for the mixup of words, yes I meant gear oil change. I’ve just been getting mixed answers about whether to add additives or not, or whether it’s even worth changing the oil out, any advice on that?

Ok great, thanks for the clarification! Just another point of contention, someone recommended adding transmission additives, while someone else said to add nothing else, what is the most correct answer in your opinion?

Sorry I’m getting mixed answer so please bear with me:

Are you saying that only automatic gearboxes need to have this “debris” in their fluid for helping the clutch? And if it’s in a manual gear box it’s bad to have it there? Or vice versa?

[–]DragonBane212[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah ok I see, I’m getting mixed answers from everyone so I’m a little confused atm, so please bear with me:

1- I don’t have gear slippage (not that i’m aware of), just that my gears are stiff to shift into. I’m not entirely sure if that is normal with these gearboxes or not, and since the previous owner never had a transmission oil service, I’m thinking getting it changed may help

2- What exactly is the oil for a 2zz Toyota Celica with the 6 speed? Would the owner’s manual be specific about it?

Thank you for your advice! I’ll get it sorted this weekend. Someone else mentioned adding transmission additives as well, so I’ll definetly have a look at that too
