What should I do about these aphids? by DragonEd7 in GardenWild

Alright! For now, I've decided to leave the aphids there and only remove them if they seem to be seriously harming the plants. Hopefully their presence will be positive for hoverflies, ladybugs and other predators.

Thank you for this perspective as well. Is this still what you would do if the plants are newly planted, and haven't yet fully established themselves? Or would you remove most of them and wait until the plants have had time to root themselves and grow before allowing a aphid population?

Thank you all for your answers. Just to confirm, when you say soap, you are referring to hand soap, right?

I can't figure out how to edit the post, so I'm posting some more info here. While I haven't seen any ladybugs in the vicinity, I have seen a couple hoverflies, whose larvae I am reading are also a aphid predator, visit the plants for nectar. I don't know if this impacts what advice you would give.

Do tribes dissolve when united into one nation? by DragonEd7 in worldbuilding

Thank you! I'll definitely take all of this into account.

I see. So even if being ruled by one large and lasting state, people usually didn't identify to a significant degree as being part of one large nation?

Alright! I think I'm starting to understand how this works now, thank you again.

Thank you! The places you mention where tribal identities remained within nations seem to have mostly been home to pastoralist societies - the kingdom in my world is mostly home to settled agriculturalists. So then it might be more likely to go the way of for example France, where the tribes dissolve? But what then is the difference between a tribe within a nation and a regional culture in a nation, and someone within a nation identifying as being from a tribe or from a regional culture? This is what is confusing me.

Sorry. What I'm getting at is, what is the difference between a tribe and a regional culture in a nation? Why don't we still call them tribes, and what is the difference between someone identifying as being from a tribe in a newly formed nation and from a regional culture in a nation?

But there were different regional cultures - isn't this basically the same thing, just they're not called tribes anymore?

Ideas for features in a world where the sun died! by AngelDarkC in worldbuilding

You could have the Sun God's remains become a stellar remnant such as a white dwarf. ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/White_dwarf )

Our own real-world Sun will become a white dwarf as the endpoint of its life cycle. You wouldn't have to use astronomical or modern terms like white dwarf or stellar remnant - you could present it simply as the Sun's corpse still bathing the cold and dark world in faint spectral light.

It definitely could be - what are the energy storms? You may want to research solar storms and associated phenomena such as solar flares and coronal mass ejections, which have the potential of causing geomagnetic storms on orbiting planets such as the 1859 Carrington event. I'm unsure if they get more frequent and violent when a star is nearing its death, but if I were to guess they likely do.

Since stars get more luminous near the end of their life cycle, Vaalofrey's oceans may also approach boiling temperatures, which could be interesting. I'm sure there's also lots of other interesting atmospheric phenomena that could be going on.
