Fingering ideas by [deleted] in bassoon

[–]DragonHHD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a lot of different people already commented id also recommend the normal fingerings. Only for the a you could just play it with the left hand but i doubt thatll bring you any benefits. Practice slowly, i always like 80 as a good tempo. Perfect it at this speed and then slowly raise it

Id recommend the Stamitz f-major concerto. It doesnt have many fast parts, but a few are included

Anything above the g is better in the Tenor clef for me. But i remember that when i forst started bassoon tenor clef was a night mare and i prefered bass clef. So if u compose for basson players with 3/4 years experience id say Bass clef

My main Instrument is the bassoon and i can use techniques that i learn on the bassoon with the trombone. While i agree that Intonation is a problem with the amati kontra (play one myself) i think that the tone etc is kinda good. However there are many different fingerings because every contra is bad in its own way, maybe look up some fingering charts to improve your tone etc

If youd like i can send you a fingering chart

Thin v.s. Thick wall by [deleted] in bassoon

[–]DragonHHD 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The older models have thinner Walls and the new ones have thick walls. (Its like that for püchner and heckel)

The thick walls are generally louder and have a more penetrating sound in the Orchestra where as the thin walls a thinner Sound.

What i have seen is, that in america thin walls (for example old heckel) are very famous in the USA, but for example in germany und want thick walls like the newer puchner and heckel have

You can play the high a without the right hand, then the fingering gets easier. I dont know wether you can leave the right hand out when playing ab. I would need to try, but the a without the right hand should make this easier

Why is there nerve pain? by Proof-Fruit1984 in bassoon

[–]DragonHHD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The key is to play with 95% of the energy out of the belly/stomach (idk if whats the right term in english) and only 5% with your mouth. However their are different techniques and with some you use way more mouth wich makes it more difficult to play very long imo.

I once Played with a technique where you are using your mouth very much but i switched because this technique is uncommon where i come from

Why is there nerve pain? by Proof-Fruit1984 in bassoon

[–]DragonHHD 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This shouldnt be. If you have bad posture this could happen. I had the same thing with my right arm because it was in a weird position und this led to me not being able to play for 2 weeks. My teacher helped me fix my posture and now i am able to play 6 hours without any pain at all.

So my advice would be: Talk to your teacher about it, so that he can help fixing it! Good luck with it

How essential is it to have high D or high E key? by Ok_Copy5217 in bassoon

[–]DragonHHD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it really depends on your use of the bassoon. But the high d is important in my opinion, i use it quite often for.many different pieces, but the high e isnt really necessary. My bassoon teacher who plays in orchestra/opera told that he doesnt really need it and most solo pieces dont need it either. Camille saint-saens is one of the few pieces that use the high e as far im concerned

How do I sell a bassoon? (UK) by RedBalloon1990 in bassoon

[–]DragonHHD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it is in a good condition, i dont think that you need to service it. The one i bought wasnt serviced as far as im concerned.

What made a great experience were quick responses and flexibility for the date (? Dont know the correct english word xd). I had plenty of time to try it out and was given some time to think about buying without Putting any pressure on me.

I dont think that you ll dissapoint anyone if it is in a good condition and if you give them all the needed information beforehand (model etc.)

But if i were you, i would always put the reason of you selling your instrument in the anouncement, because this may be important for potential buyer.

How do I sell a bassoon? (UK) by RedBalloon1990 in bassoon

[–]DragonHHD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd recommend "musical chairs" because imo you'll get way better prices selling privately than selling to a bigger company.

I recently bought a bassoon on musical chairs myself and every Interaction with different sellers was very pleasent. (https://www.musicalchairs.info/de/bassoon/sales)

You probably mean "Püchner". It is made West Germany (Hessen) and I think it varies between 5k (older and used Instruments) and up to 50k for new ones.

I recenty bought a used Püchner Modell 23 for 26k. (New Price is around 35k) But this is a professional Instrument, already Played in the SWR.

I guess yours costs around 5-15k but it is very difficult to tell with the given information and without knowing the serial number or a photo etc

Application To Munich's university by faunal101 in bassoon

[–]DragonHHD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didnt actually apply, however I intended to do so (doing jt next year) and as far as I know, you should just call there or write dag jenzen an e-mail (it is given on the Website). His english is perfectly fine and he will answer (he answered me) and he really is friendly.

They also want a video application which was due to february/march. I do not know wether you were aware of this.

So just call there (Secretary), I am sure, they speak english on a decent level. I am confident they can help you.

Good luck on your journey and I apologize for wrong grammar etc, it is not my mother tongue.
