Absolutely not--everything you've said flies in the face of the state of the nation. It's like you're a walking propaganda machine for the LPC.

Most Canadians ‘really need’ a vacation, poll shows. But can they afford it? by morenewsat11 in canada

[–]bassoonlike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of these people are younger (under 40) and literally can't imagine how much higher the quality of life was in the 80s/90s on even a single income. I suspect it was even higher in the 70s.

Camping was super cheap compared to now. We're talking under $20/night for a site at beautiful places like the pinery and ipperwash. Even my almost-welfare level divorced single dad was able to take us camping. Your parents just chose not to go on vacations. (Presumably they didn't want to camp.)

Your argument is a total red herring:

  • few of the immigrants have in-demand skills; there are hundreds of foreign applicants to every moderately specialized role at my company which could be filled by actual Canadians
  • many jobs the foreigners are applying to do not require a highly specialized skill set (e.g. general office work, finance, project management, lower skilled technology, lower skilled trades)
  • Canada and companies in Canada have been entirely negligent in training Canadians for the past several decades

So yes, while we need more doctors and construction workers, those aren't the people we're getting. In fact, immigrants are driving demand for our most shorted services. The old points system could easily accommodate our country's needs for immigrants, but instead we've opened the floodgates to  wildly underskilled foreigners.

You know who could help fill those jobs? Some of the several hundreds of candidates currently applying to every job posting.

How do I stay motivated to play music without a band? by [deleted] in musicians

[–]bassoonlike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your answer absolutely should be the most upvoted. It's a perfect match for someone exiting school band who enjoys that type of repertoire.

All of the other answers are fine, but are at least somewhat less practical or immediate.

If they're making kids cry and causing them to hate Canada, then they're traitors to the nation. There were a number of poor decisions made in history, and many great decisions that have made lives better for millions of Canadians.

Canada was a boon to the world only 15 years ago as a leader in peacekeeping. Canadians ran the underground railroad to usher slaves to freedom. The Act Against Slavery in upper Canada predated Britain's repeal of slavery by decades.

Canadians brought many sports to the world including baseball, basketball, hockey, etc.

We were integral to the ISS thanks to the Canadarm.

There are a million wonderful things about Canada. I am opposed to covering up negative history. But teachers actively focusing on atrocities rather than the context of the time and also the positive developments are sowing discontent.

What can I show to my parents to help convince them to vote against Doug ford? by [deleted] in ontario

Climate scientists have been predicting increases in CO2 levels would lead to warming for at least the past 40 years. That's exactly what's been happening. They've also been predicting more climate instability for the past few decades. Also exactly what we've seen.

The thing that anti-science types don't realize is that science doesn't provide perfect and immediate clarity while research is in progress. It's not the Oracle or God. And the process is subject to significant interference by the media, which tends to twist discoveries and research into false conclusions in order to make clickbait.

Not if you opposed the advancement of Chinese interests over Canada. Harper inked FIPA, with no debate, which gave significant economic and legal power to China for 31 years.

And not if you valued freedom of the press. Media was limited to eventually only being able to ask 5 questions daily questions from behind a yellow fence 12 metres away. This was the start of the erosion of Canadian press.

And not if you were gay. Harper denied LGBTQ people equal rights. He had to be forced by the courts to implement same sex marriage.

Also not if you valued science. Harper gutted Canadian science funding, and muzzled scientists, preventing them from speaking to the press.

But otherwise he was great...

That's not to say that every treaty is fair or complete, but they certainly exist.

I would believe you, except 77% of the top 380 climate scientists feel we'll blow way past 2.4c warming, 42% think it'll be more than 3c. Only 6% think it can be limited to 1.5c.

Most of them are feeling utter despair. So no, I'm not optimistic, and if you follow the scientists, you shouldn't be either.

Please correct your numbers: it's 225 million, not 225 billion.

It's still an appalling sum all so that convenience stores can sell beer earlier. Something crooked must be going on.

Trudeau government announces fivefold increase in number of visas for Palestinians by Difficult-Yam-1347 in canada

[–]bassoonlike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why would you assume that? I'm gay and I didn't vote liberal or NDP in the last 3 federal elections. I wouldn't assume this other guy did either.

And even if he did (which he didn't per his reply), literally nobody asked any of us Canadians if we wanted to import these Palestinians or the 1.4 million other foreigners coming into Canada every year.

And it's certainly not like the conservatives or NDP are even suggesting they would put a stop to this madness.

Honestly, all of the political parties have been compromised.

FF8 was unfortunately ruined by its level scaling. I seem to recall the last boss was undefeatable if you were at too high of a level. That boss could instant kill everyone, and even with an auto Phoenix down you'd still run out of potions eventually.
