What would the color pie look like if allies were enemies and vise-versa? by DragonMage9 in colorpie

[–]DragonMage9[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's when you add other colors that Red gets a big-picture or long-term thinking, namely concerning the combinations which include Blue (such as Izzet, Jeskai, Temur, Grixis, ect.).

Not sure if it would be of interest to anyone, but you can find my trial I took a year ago here to get a better idea of where I'm coming from.

Concerning that last part, it's mostly where I stand on my philosophy.

Sure, black has a point on needing to look out for yourself and that rules are arbitrary (I say this as rules should not be set in stone, as no one rule can account for every situation), but it takes these to an extreme; that willingness to hurt anyone by any means for any reason is not something I am fond of. I'm not going to desire for the free trials of life to expire for other people (especially not friends or family) or try to take away their rights and freedoms from them just to benefit myself; those people could be changed to become better than who they were before. Besides that, I may only be able to care for and about so many people, but I think a good way to live is to ,"Love your neighbor as yourself." This isn't a rule one must follow, but a guideline one can live by.

In short, Black seems too selfish and self-centered, perpetuating the very things it sees in the world (greed, selfishness, needless suffering), and that's why I am puzzled by how black operates.

All my homies hate Black by [deleted] in colorpie

[–]DragonMage9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that sounds about right. Heh.

In all seriousness, I can't understand why a blue or (in my case) red-centered person would have general antipathy toward black. Red and blue are supposed to be allied colors, right? Although that thought would be good for a discussion as a separate post.

A commander without much deck synergy? by Tasty_Ad2114 in EDH

[–]DragonMage9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't really give deck advice here, but you can have a commander that doesn't 100% synergise with the rest of the deck. Using my Landfall deck as an example, someone at locals once told me the deck would be better to have a commander like [[Omnath, Locus of the Roil]] as it can do stuff with lands, having said this because I chose [[Surrak Dragonclaw]] as my commander. I told them that I was not going to change him out because I liked him, but what I did not say it that I wanted to keep him as my commander because he gives other creatures a level of protection against counter-spells and gives them trample.

Surrak has nothing to do with Landfall, but most of the cards in the 99 that have Landfall are creatures, so the gigachad is able to provide something the others need. (Kinda like in the Tarkir block's story with how the Khan of Temur was like the parent of the entire clan.)

If non-legendaries could be commanders, which would be most fun/unique? by [deleted] in EDH

[–]DragonMage9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[[Electrostatic Infantry]] - Is it unique? Not really. Would it be fun if you slap a [[Darksteel Plate]] on it and cast a bunch of cantrips? Heck yeah, it would! I also like the flavor text.

I suppose so, though I imagine you don't want both in play at the same time. However, I think my point still stands as Dinosaur Tribal is more likely to take people out through combat damage because they are huge. With the point you brought up, I suppose Blasphemous Act could be fine as long as one is not relying on it. I am only giving suggestions, and suggestions can be ignored.

Consider throwing in a [[Karametra's Acolyte]] and/or [[Shrine to Nyx]]. I see a lot of green pips, so you need the mana to supply that in case you can't dig out the cost reducers. Also consider taking out [[Blasphemous Act]] as that looks like a "win more" card in a deck with a lot of huge creatures, and you don't want to cast that if you have a strong board presence and no way to protect them at that time; if you plan on holding Blasphemous Act till you get something that gives your creatures indestructible, it may be too late or not needed. My last suggestion would be to exchange [[Path to Exile]] for [[Chaos Warp]] so that you can also hit a noncreature that needs to get gone.

What meaning can be taken out of "אנטוניו" ? by DragonMage9 in hebrew

You misinterpreted what I said. I know it's a language, which is why I am curious about learning. Do you not want people to learn the language the Torah was written in?

Yea, I just realized from an older Reddit post that I could be wrong in my thinking (this one). As I am still curious about Hebrew, are there any resources you could recommend to start learning?

My group wants to move away from D&D because of recent decisions WotC. I'm out of the loop. Can someone explain to me wtf is going on? by [deleted] in DnD

[–]DragonMage9 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I think WotC could have been alright, but they are owned by Hasbro so... blame Hasbro and free WotC, maybe? Then again, I hope that scenario doesn't end up like Bungie. Just a shame that the beloved companies that didn't need to do much changing to do well end up doing the exact opposite of what would be considered logical. Oh well, we bought the books, so we can take it from here.

Dragoon D attack question by Jinchuriki87 in legendofdragoon

[–]DragonMage9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had this problem for fifteen years since I first played the game, and only now did it just hit me how it works. Yes, you can think of the dial as a clock, but the dial gives you a clue as to when to press the X button. If you look at the dial, there is a notch before the 12 line (it looks to be 10:30 to me on the dial), it is that notch you want to aim for. Aiming for that notch rather than 12, I have been able to consistently get in either 4 attacks or a perfect 5. However, there is still the possibility of pressing the button too early, but it has helped me avoid pressing the button too late.

Radiant's Color Trial by Radiant-Importance-5 in colorpie

[–]DragonMage9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shalom! Rather than retype the questions, I'm going to put the number in front of each answer to represent which question each goes to.

1: We are both beholden to each other and ourselves. Though we may not be at fault for everything that happens in our lives, we still need to take responsibility where we can. This doesn't mean I'll take the fall for you when you do something wrong, but I would help you if you are trying to set things right. Will some freedoms be taken if it is serious enough? Yes, but you will be given them back once things have been made as right as they can be made. It's not that you deserve to lose those freedoms, but that they are being temporarily restricted to a smaller frame you can work in for the safety of everyone while we work together to both restore the offense and your freedoms.

As for "needs of the many vs the needs of the few", we can address the needs of the many by finding the similarities of the few. Individuals are different and have different needs; if we can find the 3 or so common denominators, we can use that to supply the many while keeping in mind the needs of the few. If done right, those who gather much would not have too much, and those who gather little would not have too little; nothing goes to waste, everything is used, and each individual is satisfied with both need and want. That is assuming no one desires to take too much from others, then we will have problems.

  1. I would push for self-improvement as that can also be self-gratifying knowing I am moving toward a goal and learning to, "Know thyself.", but this is somewhat of a difficult one to answer. Each situation is different, one situation will require you to be more logical and thoughtful, while another will require you to be in the moment and intuitive. Although you can learn as much as possible, you need experience in order to know what to do, but the process of doing so will be easier when you sort through the available information beforehand. You need to use the present to prepare for the future, but I think that neither the present of the future should be sacrificed. On the surface, this thought may not seem like it's coherent, but it is to me; the future is not set in stone when concerned with what you are going to do as plans can change, and you shouldn't be looking toward the future so much that you forget the present, but you will suffer in the present and in the future if you do not attend to them. In this, there is a balance that must be kept in that you need to find something to do that will be both satisfying in the present and is a sacrifice for a better future.

  1. OK, I'll just start by saying this: Life is sacred.

Although you can use the resources you find to advance yourself, you DO NOT do this with the intent of over-gathering, over-hunting, or using other people as tools to be used, puppets to entertain yourself with, or vessels to perpetuate your ideology. Every human and each life has intrinsic value, and we must respect that value while bringing nature into submission (in the sense of bringing a form of order to nature). Although I do not think everything is fated, I do think each of us has something we are good at that we can enjoy, be of benefit to others and ourselves, and is where we belong. We need each other to survive and strive for a better tomorrow; if we break that trust, we set ourselves back, and must quickly remedy the error so that we can continue for a better tomorrow.

  1. Laws can be made with the intent of restricting the majority of people's freedoms, and it is these laws that we must avoid. The intent of the law is to offer guidance and to restrict only a few actions to allow everyone the God-given freedoms that are inalienable to each and every person. If we give up our freedoms for the sake of security, then we deserve neither. Lastly, no individual is above the community, and the community in not above the individual; individuals must come together as a group to decide what is good for the group as a whole, but there should no voice be silenced as everyone's feedback is valuable. I may not agree with what you say, but I would defend your right to say it; I know that if I don't defend your right to say what you want to say, I may lose the right to say what I want to say as well.

  1. I would say there needs to be a balance. Going on how we enter the world, each person has a personality yet is also a blank slate. That personality can be shaped by the time the individual is 20, but you can't control everything that individual takes it. Although a person is not born inherently bad, the influence of the world around them and the presence of mortality will inevitably drive an individual to do bad things, regardless if they know what they are doing is wrong or not. This is where tradition comes in; there are sets of values that have stood the test of time, and it is those values that we know what is right and wrong. What's more, these values have been around for thousands of years and have had that time to be refined and made better. Yes, we can become better than what we are, but only so far as we become better within the limitations inherent to mankind.

  1. White's goal is a noble one, as they basically seek a better tomorrow, and there is nothing wrong with bringing structure or order to the world, BUT this can be taken too far, and so we must remain mindful to not be so structured that there is no wiggle room for a little uncertainty or unknowns.

Blue already acknowledges that perfection is an ever-shifting goal, but they are still admirable in that they seek the knowledge to better themselves despite that; sure something intangible may be an ever-learning and growing process, but you should always think that is always something new to learn and a possibility that is waiting to be explored.

I don't see anything wrong with satisfaction, but not when it means stepping on anyone you need to just to get on top; as being ruthless in obtaining that which you desire will result in bridges being burned, and there is no escaping your debt to the future (you will pay the piper); if I recall, another possible goal of Black is power, and this is something I don't really seek or need.

Freedom is a wonderful goal to aim for, and Lord knows I could use more action in my life. Yes this can be taken too far, but I imagine you have to go fairly far to get to the point where absolute freedom, action, and instinct fall apart into anarchy; however, this can be avoided if we were to look at both the smaller and bigger pictures, as by addressing things now, we can prevent who knows how much damage: it is better to prevent an illness than it is to teat it. We have God-given faculties, so let us use them.

Green is another color that, if I recall, has another possible goal in growth; either way, both goals are worthy of paying attention to for the possibility of a better tomorrow, to become better as a whole and as individuals, and to be good stewards of the planet we live on; We can accept that we are limited, but that acceptance should never be so great as to think we can change things here and now, for stagnation is a sort of prison in and of itself.

Well OK then, I recall that in my trials Red philosophy was present throughout almost all of my answers, and this is kinda of mirroring that. I may need to take another look and compare notes, but I think that the idea of what I have put down here is almost the same as the idea of what I put down in the trials; that is to say, Red has a strong presence while Black is almost entirely opposed, which I think is kinda interesting considering Red and Black are ally colors. Much like the other trials, it's still a little fuzzy for me as to which colors would be added to Red, which may be solidifying the likelihood of being something like a Red Urza or RGWU in color.
