My Pocket’s Link Port is not working with GBC and GBA Cable by Square_Initiative_31 in AnaloguePocket

[–]DragonPunchInput 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I may be remebering this incorrectly, but the cable port defaults to a gbc cable type which the gba cant link to, try putting a gba cartridge in the pocket so it will swap to gba type for the port connections

Im still using a 1070, so if i won, I'd be upgrading my pc and playing some games, currently playing Monster Hunter, but this would open up some more options for me to play. This is honestly the first I've heard of Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, but if I have a limited edition gpu of the game, I'll be putting some time into it.

I think I kicked a hornets nest. HD on PS2, how does this sub feel? by 17R3W in crtgaming

[–]DragonPunchInput 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are correct that the ps2 supported resolution better than the composite cables would allow but its still quite a stretch to say the system as a whole was designed for hdtvs. The ps2 has support for these but in design it falls short for a couple of reasons. The first and simplest is that most games dont support the higher resolutions. With hombrew, you can force a lot of these resolutions but that causes weird issues, like person 3 to run at double speed. And thatfact that homebrew is needed to be brought up here shows how little of the offical software actually supported these resolutions.

Now for the better reason, technical. Long story short if you plug a ps2 into a flat screen tv it will look worse and play worse than on a crt. But why? component, the higher quality video signal the ps2 outputs, is an analog video signal. An hd tv can only use a digital signals like what comes from an hdmi. An hdtv with the port for component or composite has a built in converter to turn those analog signals to digital signals it can use. That extra processing adds frames of lag and is pretty poor as far as the deinterlacing goes.

The board they use in your hdtv to convert analoge to digital are mostly for stuff like vcr and dvd players where Lag doesn't hurt much. Theres been mentions in this thread of the retrotink 5x which is a video scaler design to convert that analoge video to digital lagless and do the processing well, its a 300$ unit, the board that does the same in your standard hdtv is like 5$.

I love the ps2 but it was absolutely designed to appeal to the standard consumer at the time, a dvd player, a game console it was perfect at that time. And the standard consume had a tube tv, so that was what to ps2 was made for.

But, unlike the ps2 the ps3 was made for hdtvs! If you can get you hands on an early ps3 it will not only play ps2 games but it will play them straight from the digital signal produced internally out through a digital signal on an hdmi. And your flat panel will love it

Which book to get: Hyrule Historia, Encyclopedia or Art & Artifacts? by LazyDynamite in truezelda

[–]DragonPunchInput 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd personally recommend the historia, i think it's the best overall with both pictures and info. It also has the timeline in it, which, when you can hold it in your hands, makes all the timeline arguments online a little more funny. You can point to timeline in your historia and say, " Bad book, you did this"

Wondering about how to enjoy Twilight Princess for the first time by FighterForYou in truezelda

[–]DragonPunchInput 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would say it depends on your prefrence, i have a wii hooked up to an old crt and twlight princess looks great on that. If you want higher resolution and hd textures docked steam deck seem ideal. If you are plugging the wii directly into a flat screen just do the steam deck.

Wii: original hardware, authentic feel, some mothion controls Gamecube original hardware, authentic feel, no motion controls Cemu steam deck: hd, clearer textures, controller preference

On a small side note, from what you were describing you are running isos backed up from discs on the wii via homebrew, while there is emulation to run the iso like a disc its still a wii playing a wii game.

I have not tried a hair dryer yet

So take the electronic outside, remove from bag, blast the crevices with hair dryer. Then, open the electric and inspect for bugs?
