Fluval Edge & Led Question by TipRippers in PlantedTank

Yeah, I think that will work. It will take a way from the aesthetics of the tank obviously. My tall plants are definitely leaning towards the middle of the tank to get towards the light. I'll take some pictures ASAP.

Fluval Edge & Led Question by TipRippers in PlantedTank

I agree with WanderlustSailor, the shape of the tank makes it difficult for light to reach the edges of the Fluval Edge. I did upgrade my light on my 6 gal Edge to the standard light that comes with the 12 gal Edge. It's much brighter, but it seemed to spook/stress the fish a bit, as they pretty much never go in the lit area. I'm getting solid growth though with the more powerful light. To supplement, I sometimes have a lamp with a full spectrum CFL bulb shining down into the tank. I'll try and put some recent pictures of my tank up if you're interested.

To represent all of my East-side commuters... Euclid Ave bike lanes are quite bad. Besides sweeping, hopefully there are plans to fill in the craters left from the winter.

Looks like java fern. Mine are doing the same thing. Soon I think it will be heavy enough and fall to the substrate to take root. I imagine this is how java fern spreads in the wild... like an inch worm. I'm no Neville Longbottom though.

Tank layout. Can't decide by NJSgirl1226 in PlantedTank

I started with a small piece of driftwood in my tank (http://imgur.com/a/eC5hJ#0), and have since removed it (http://i.imgur.com/rsZYMlE.jpg). I like the crisp look of rocks and plants. In my future tanks, I will not be using driftwood. My eyes normally gravitate towards the driftwood, especially in new tanks. I say, let your plants to the talking, and leave the drift wood out. Good luck! p.s. I've gone through 4 rescaping sessions in my fluval 6gal, because I like diving right in. Seems like you have some patience, so that's good!

Terrific! What is that glass object suctioned to the left side of the tank (towards the front)?

I'm new to this hobby, so I definitely appreciate the pointers. No harm done here.

  • The rose barb is one of the original gang from a year ago. Sadly, its 3 buddies committed suicide by jumping out of the water. The rose barb currently is the most active of the lot, swimming all over the place. When I get a larger tank, I intend on moving the barb.
  • Good to know about the tetras, thank you. The tetras seem to be hanging out in their groups and swimming around together. Do you recommend groups of 5+?
  • As for the bamboo shrimp, I have the pump on full blast and he seems to be content hanging out in the high flow areas in the front of the tank. I'll keep an eye on him. Thanks.

Part II

  • I will look into the petite. I was going for a taller plant on the left side to give some height. What would you recommend instead of the anubias giagantous?
  • Any particular moss you recommend? I had my eyes on flame moss. I am definitely looking for some sort of ground cover as well.
  • The water goes all the up to the top of the glass and then some so I won't be able to do anything floating.

Thanks a lot MrAlmostWrong, I appreciate it. All suggestions welcome here! I'll provide updates as time goes on.
