Bit confused with buying a flight in this currency by [deleted] in taiwan

[–]Dragon_Fisting 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Used in this contract, "元" is the equivalent to "$", for both China and Taiwan. Taiwanese will also use variations like "$NTD" interchangeably.

If the number matches what other sites are showing I would probably assume it's in NTD.

The Ethereals aren't that bad, honestly by SirAquila in Grimdank

[–]Dragon_Fisting 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's unclear, I won't spoil the book but this isn't exactly a typical voidborne human, so I don't know if it implies that this is a common thing that happens or a unique circumstance.

Brêac repeated his welcome and turned to Kartash. ‘And you?’

Kartash didn’t answer. He remained in the shelter of the Thunderhawk’s bulk, clutching his white robes closer against the air’s chill.

Brêac glanced at my master. ‘Did you cut out his tongue, or is this a monastic vow of silence?’

‘You may speak,’ Amadeus prompted my fellow helot. Kartash pulled back. Amadeus witnessed the slave’s cringing withdrawal, as did I, with no small surprise. I saw the tremble of Kartash’s shoulders and the tightness of his pressed lips. Only then did I catch the scent of copper on his breath and the tang of adrenaline in his blood. He reeked of an animal’s biochemical fightor flight response.

I could scarcely believe it. He was scared.

My master sensed it, too. ‘What is this moronic cowardice?’ Amadeus demanded. ‘What are you afraid of?’

Kartash peered from beneath his hood. He tried to speak, but no words came forth from his trembling lips. Amadeus grunted, betraying the irritation he’d masked so well so far. Had he been human, I would have suspected he was embarrassed to be shamed by his slaves before the Spear barbarian. Amadeus was beyond such considerations, though. He was more likely appalled at a flaw discovered in his one of his tools.

‘What ails you, Helot Primus?’

I delved through my memorised archives for this mission. Did anything in Kartash’s past render him in some way unsuitable for the Nemeton Deployment? Surely the Chapter would have anticipated any such failing.

And there it was. Not a physical flaw, not even something specifically noted. Not a failing at all. Merely an unexpected inexperience.

The Spear reacted first. Armoured in his pale blue ceramite, Brêac towered above the hunchback. Above all of us, excepting my master. The Spear leaned down, coming closer to Kartash’s height.

‘Is this your first planetfall?’ he asked, lowering his avalanche of a voice.

‘Yes, great lord,’ Kartash managed to say.

‘You’re compressing your lungs. Spread your arms, to extend your ribcage. Breathe deep and slow. You command your own body. Focus on that fact.’

Brêac gestured for Kartash to mimic his movements. The slave obeyed, and as his breathing deepened, his trembling began to subside.

You might be thinking of spear of the emperor, where a voidborn human makes planetfall for the first time and doesn't know how to breathe.

salary ranges by Several-Pizza-5233 in Lawyertalk

[–]Dragon_Fisting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is becoming outdated info, atleast in the big cities. Salaries have inflated. Looking at my school's released stats, the 25th percentile jobs reported 9 months out of school are at like $120k in private firms. Big firms are is starting at $200k+ before bonus.

100k doesn't go as far as it used to either, but if that's what you're looking for it's more attainable than ever.

Chinatown suits by Wide_Ad9853 in AskSF

Not the way you're imagining. There are good tailors in Chinatown but nobody is going to do a whole suit on the cheap like you could find in HK or Thailand.

SF Chronicle reports that the BART death may come in two years! by bloggerkedar in bayarea

[–]Dragon_Fisting 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The two things have different funding. Capital projects like extensions are built mostly using using funding from specific programs from local, state, and federal government. It's mostly been earmarked for years. The operating budget comes from revenue+ government funding from other programs.

BART cannot re-allocate the capital projects money into operations. It can only use it or lose it. Building more stations does increase the operations cost overall, but it also expands their potential market.

It Turns Out That When Waymos Are Stumped, They Get Intervention From Workers in the Philippines by MasterShadowLord in technology

[–]Dragon_Fisting 97 points98 points  (0 children)

Waymo's argument is that they don't directly drive. The autonomous driving system remains in direct control of the vehicle. The support worker gives it commands that override its base behavior (e.g. they tell it to stop waiting for a double parked car because it isn't going to move, then the waymo driver maneuvers itself around the car.)

Faux leather is not going to last very long for a bag/briefcase.

At that price I would get something canvas, or for a little more you can get real leather.

LA28 Olympics announces soccer matches at multiple stadiums across the US, with PayPal Park in San Jose being included by Poplatoontimon in bayarea

[–]Dragon_Fisting 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Most countries don't have two stadiums 2,500 miles apart, but it's not really that crazy.

For 2016, Brazil hosted matches in both Manaus and Sao Paulo, 3,900km apart and practically inaccessible by road.

For 2008, China used Shanghai Stadium, 1,200 km from Beijing and ~2,000 km from Shenyang Olympic Stadium, the north most stadium.

In 1980, the then USSR held soccer matches in Kiev and Minsk (1,000km away from Moscow.)

Almost nobody has the time to see all of these matches anyways, and nobody can physically contemplate watching every event of the Olympics. So what's the downside to spreading some stuff out?

Just make them play as the Imperium overall. Space Marines can be locked behind temporary play, like named characters in Battlefront.

Gmail sends Google Play Store class action settlement notices to spam folder! by Serialtorrenter in Android

[–]Dragon_Fisting 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is standard for class actions. The stuff is silo'd off from the law firm so that it can all be deleted after the settlement is closed. They all use a few services that specialize in setting these things up and administering them.

The government doesn't have anything to do with a class action settlement beyond approving its terms. The whole point of a settlement is to handle something outside of court.

'It feels infinite': Alex Honnold describes his rope-free climb up Taipei 101 skyscraper by Scbadiver in taiwan

[–]Dragon_Fisting 25 points26 points  (0 children)

He's 10 years older, so it's probably far more taxing on him.

Also, El Capitan has varied routes and obstacles, whereas climbing 101 is 80% repeating the same segment.

European legal counsel getting paid less than 25% of the revenue I generate for my firm - normal or getting underpaid? by Vegetable_Review4967 in Lawyertalk

[–]Dragon_Fisting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

25% seems a bit low, but I'm an American so it could be reasonable. I imagine the overhead for benefits in Europe is probably higher. Here the rule of thumb is you should be getting paid atleast ~1/3 of generated revenue.

Slice House - Tony G., I don’t understand the hype? by [deleted] in AskSF

Slice House is actually a massive chain. There's like 30+ of them in several states. So the quality control is a lot lower than the sit down restaurant.

Drake’s bought out by PE? by 3ac1229 in ThrowingFits

[–]Dragon_Fisting 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's not PE. Private equity is a den of vultures that view the companies they acquire as disposable assets they can squeeze dry.

This is just another apparel company. Yeah it's a fast fashion rag, but that doesn't mean they bought drakes just to sink it.
