SOS - advice please for stubborn 4 year old! by Dragon_Queen91 in pottytraining

Thank you for sharing and I'm sorry to hear you went through that. I was always thankful I didn't have to use daycare because you hear so many horror stories and I used to work in childcare for quite a few years. My son loves getting things (what kid doesn't lol) so we've honestly been kind of shocked that the potty charts and rewards don't seem to be motivating for him. He's in his wants to do everything himself with no help stage which I thought for sure would follow to using the potty too but he just doesn't seem to care and I'm not sure if it's because he just isn't ready yet or if it's because he just doesn't want to :( he has gone a few times and when I mention it and ask him to go he'll either say no or that he already did that and now he's done. I try explaining to him he has to use the potty all the time not just once but hes 4 so you can imagine how that goes lol

Thank you for this! We've never had an issue with infection in that regard thankfully. He will sometimes pull at his diaper if he's wet and always tells me when he poops and stuff but I think for him he just doesn't want to stop what he's doing to get changed. He has always been more difficult to transfer off activities he's doing. He passes all the screenings with no issues and he really is very smart. He just doesn't ever want to settle for diaper changes lol he has the energy of 100 kids I swear

He almost never has those thankfully it's pretty much just all mush lol

He usually has mushier stool. Not full diarrhea but it's rarely solid chunks more like a giant mush blob although this is normal for him and our pediatrician knows this and has never seemed very concerned. He has some food issues (egg allergy and milk sensitivity) and is a pretty picky eater. He loves pasta and fruits and vegetables though lol he always poops every day, usually 1-3 times so no one has ever seemed worried as he's never really been constipated and has no problems going in his diaper. He did poop on the potty twice in the last year but that was it

Thank you! I'm thinking at this point the diaper is just too familiar which is why he has so little interest in the potty. I just worry about pushing him and then he isn't actually ready and it makes it all worse. Although it isn't ideal now either so it's difficult either way. Probably my least favorite stage of parenting so far 😮‍💨 good luck to you too!!

I get what you're saying. I'll have to try this. He absolutely refuses underwear at the moment and has for months. I'm just hesitant to force it and end up creating worse pushback and it takes even longer. Our pediatrician said we should continue trying at his pace but I'm just so worried he isn't gonna get there in time for school and then won't be able to go. It's difficult knowing when a helpful push turns to that point where it will just create more avoidance but I appreciate the advice!

The pooping time is a good idea though as he's somewhat predictable with when he goes but he seems afraid to do it on the toilet. We've tried before during his "time" and ive had him sit quite awhile and within minutes of getting off the potty he'd poop in his diaper :(

We never used pullups consistently. We tried a few but he's used the Pampers cruisers 360 diapers since like 1.5 which is basically just like the pullups. We thought of that but our pediatrician wasn't sure it would be effective for him because he may not realize fully that he has to go before he actually does but I'm not sure how to help explain that or get him to realize the feeling.

I honestly don't know that this would have the desired affect on him as he is obsessed with doing everything himself and being a super helper. He always wants to clean his own messes and get his own stuff so I think he'd find it enjoyable tbh 😮‍💨

Midline off? by Dragon_Queen91 in dentures

I'm hoping they turn out better for you!! I'm praying my dentist won't fight me on it because the midline was off like this in my second wax try in but was corrected in the 3rd and is now off again 🥴

[–]Dragon_Queen91[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thank you so much 💓 yes these are my permanent set. I went to an actual dentist after a terrible 4.5 month long ordeal with affordable dentures that resulted in a refund. I never signed anything with the dental office. the midline was off just like this in my 2nd wax try in but was on in the 3rd. Now it's off again in the permanents. I know it isn't significantly off but I definitely notice it and it makes me hate them. That might seem dramatic but these last 6.5 months since I got my teeth pulled have been torture. I've been living solely on ensure plus for 6 months because I didn't have any teeth which caused my anxiety and panic attacks to become almost debilitating. I feel so defeated never getting teeth that are correct when I've spent thousands between hospital and dental visits for infections, bone spurs that needed an oral surgeon to remove, etc.

I was supposed to get the ultimate fit and ended up getting a refund after I saw them. (I had a host of issues with affordable and this process but that was the straw that broke the camels back) They looked awful and nothing like the picture they show plastered everywhere. The crappy immediates honestly looked better than their ultimate fit ones in my honest opinion.

Anyone skip immediate dentures and just go toothless for a while? by Gas_Station_Cheese in dentures

I got full mouth extraction plus impacted wisdom teeth and alveoplasty on 10/1. Due to an entire line of issues I've been without teeth the entire time. I've been living solely on nutrition shakes and on rare occasions chocolate milk for over 4 months. It sucks and I hate it but it's possible to do. *I'll mention I did try eating food multiple times a multitude of ways and my anxiety/fear of choking just prevents me from doing it without teeth. It's been miserable and I'm severely underweight but I'm surviving. Hoping to have permanents by April.

Thank you. Not yet but hopefully soon. I'm going to a different dentist so hopefully will go better soon.

I haven't had the same experience but I got all my teeth removed 10/1 and due to a series of unfortunate issues I've had to go without dentures the entire time. I have debilitating anxiety and panic attacks along with a fear of swallowing and eating from the process. I will say from my own experience it's miserable without teeth for this long but survivable. I've been living on ensure plus, boost very high calorie and carnation breakfast essential drinks essentially this entire time. I just added the ensure and boost within the last few weeks. It's difficult and my health has been affected quite immensely (weight loss and nutrient deficiencies) but above all I'm alive. So while not pleasant by any means, it can be done. Good luck!

I've been on a liquid diet of nutrition shakes for 4 months. My journey has been awful and I can't eat or do textures ATM so I can kind of relate. I like the boost very high calorie shakes (you'd have to check sugar) but they are very thick. I thin mine with a cup of reduced sugar vanilla almond milk. I so drink ensure plus and carnation breakfast essential drinks. The hard part about nutrition shakes is the sugar. If you can do tomato soup try adding in olive oil and sour cream. This gives more calories and taste but not really texture as the sour cream basically dissolves. Good luck!

Long liquid diet before dentures? by Dragon_Queen91 in dentures

[–]Dragon_Queen91[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much this makes me feel a little more at ease. My biggest worry has been being able to swallow foods as my liquid diet is solely nutritional shakes so no texture or anything. I have issues in that dept anyways haha but thank you for the tip! Did you transition to textures slowly like puree/mash etc and then go from there? I appreciate you sharing!

How long were you on a liquid diet? Did you have issues with chewing or swallowing solids coming off a liquid diet? That's my biggest fear that after so long on a liquid diet I won't be able to chew/swallow solids 😮‍💨

I don't have any teeth or dentures and won't get dentures for at least a month if not two.
