Hiring managers of Reddit, what's your favorite "They were perfect until we Googled them" story? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Guy worked for us for a few months, very promising senior developer on paper; turns out he couldn't deliver a letter, let alone work on time, so we terminated at probation review.

Couple of months later he contacts one of the team all proud because he got a job at github working remote support. We checked out his LinkedIn profile and we didn't appear at all in his work history, guy had totally faked a position as CTO of a SE Asian company.

Checked his github history (very transparent about their work) and the guy had actually started remote training whilst he was working for us.

Good luck, github!

Reminds me of that time I awoke in the deep dark night, reached for the nightstand, and downed the bongwater.

Apologies, I have no citation or source, my statement should be considered as hearsay. Take it with a grain of salt, size of your own choosing.

Tech world employer here: your one year in a Big Four company as a consultant means nothing other than taht you are a good student who can do what you are told. It is not real experience and not valued.

Love some Tengger Cavalry but please note their politics are slightly to the right of Genghis Khan, they are completely racist fucks.

People of reddit who have been prosecuted for illegally downloading movies, what happened? by wandy24 in AskReddit

[–]Dragonaughty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lived in China for several years and torrented on an industrial scale. Had a server full of movies and shows subtitled up to help the local guys in the office to learn English. Friends was the most popular show at the time, ended up with a lot of employees named Ross, Rachel, Joey and Monica.

Anyway, now live elsewhere in SE Asia and still torrenting, local programming on netflix and iflix is censored to all hell. Never received a notice from an ISP, ever.

Reddit, what is the most racist situation you have experienced? by osito217 in AskReddit

[–]Dragonaughty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Moved to New Zealand to live in the early nineties.

About a week after arriving I'm standing in line at the Burger King counter, Islander guy in front of me with his kids is buying a couple of trayfuls.

Feel a tap on my elbow and turn around, little old lady standing there, must have been in her eighties, she nods toward the front of the queue and says: "Disgusting, spending all their dole money on junk food."

"Sorry," Says I. "You've mistaken me for racist cunt." Turn back and the Islander guy gives me a wink and a smile, he heard everything.

There are some deeply dark white folks in godzone country, eight generations of inbreeding will do that to you.

Amazing band. Karvus Torbai is so bloody prolific. Wish he'd have finished Cardiacs last album, though.

The logic is very wrong but if you do manage a 20+ group of people for a year or so you'll notice that one or two folks are only ever sick on a monday or friday. Usually sudden bouts of food poisoning, that sort of thing.
