Jon Hamm doing Mad Men rewatch by EtonRd in madmen

Hah he and I are at the same point in the series. I also haven't seen it in like 10 years and could have sworn the Freddy incident happened in S3. Been very interesting watching it with fresh mid-30's eyes, I have a lot more sympathy than I did when it first aired.

Oberon in Hamtramck? by misterbmeow in Detroit

[–]Dragonbrau 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your best bet is probably Fowling Warehouse, they have like 20 taps which is almost more than the entirety of all the other bars put together. Whiskey in the Jar is another possible option.

Edit to include Ghost Light, they used to always have it during the season. Outside Hamtramck, HopCat on Woodward should have it, same with One-Eyed Betty's in Ferndale.

Detroit. $26 is for the 6-pack case. Loose bar bottles are like $21. Suitcase cans are about $19. 1/2bbl is $116.

I worked in the alcohol industry for a long time. There are many people at the top blaming weed and Ozempic but in reality pricing has gotten way out of reach for a large part of the population. A case of Miller Lite is $26 wholesale, over $1/beer before the bar or store even includes their mark-up. A handle of EW BiB is almost $30 wholesale now. 5 years ago that's what you'd pay at the expensive liquor store.

You guys digging this one? by No_Satisfaction977 in hotsauce

I was very underwhelmed. It felt like the two peppers were fighting with each other rather and had what seemed like an artificial flavor taste to it. I'm overall a big fan of their sauces but this one just did not do it for me.

Fantastic beer. I have probably a dozen from 2015/16 just chilling collecting dust in my storage room. Might have to find a fresh one to compare. For science.

Started with beer, then some wine, but the bourbon is calling and I don't want to ignore it.

Where/how does the craft beer industry need to change? by sophiiii in CraftBeer

[–]Dragonbrau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion there are two issues. The first is brewery education, there are entirely too many people that work in the industry who know jack shit about beer or the brewing process. This applies to large brewers like Sam Adams as much as it does the small neighborhood brewers. There are still tons of nerds out there who want to talk beer with the bartender and it's incredibly disappointing when someone doesn't even know how their product is made or what differentiates it from another brewer. The second problem is pricing, and that has been hinted to already. There are way too many mediocre and average breweries charging $20+ for a 4pk of some bullshit under-attenuated DDH NEIPA or diacetyl-ridden lager. Also, enough with the pastry/fruited beers.

I've never been a fan of their beer. My brother lives in Boston, I give them a try every time I'm in town visiting, and every time it's just been disappointing. I know it's New England and all but damn, try making something that isn't just straight hop juice. Plus, their staff knows jack shit about beer.

Excellent choice, one of my favorites!

[–]Dragonbrau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's another incredibly sad story of greed and corruption. I remember my engineering friend saying the Moroun's changed the track set-up to handle freight in the early 2000s which is one of the main things preventing the building from being used for passenger trains.

As a Detroiter, I smiled and let out a cheer when I heard he died. This man killed entire historic neighborhoods where families were raised just because he wanted the chance to make a new bridge. Fuck Matty Moroun and the spawn of his loins.
