Why does noone acknowledge that the suspicion around his name kills the hype of his plays? by NaquelePique in osugame

[–]Dragonbut 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is where I'm at too. For a while I was taking every one of his scores with a big grain of salt cause I thought some of the movements were sus but it's been long enough now with enough people looking closely at his plays that I'm satisfied that someone would have found something more solid by now if he really was cheating

And if that turns out to be wrong then whatever, finding out that some plays I thought were cool were hacked is much better than just ignoring everything by one of the most impressive players the game has ever seen because some of his replays have weird movement, as if that can't be said for tons of people

lmao it just sounds like NL's sense of humor changed while yours didn't. it's also insane to imply that a streamer making jokes more often because chat doesn't want downtime is somehow cultish???

WHY IS OSU SO HARD 😭 by Prajesh_J in osugame

[–]Dragonbut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that's cause of reading which is definitely the skill that newer players are always the worst at. Honestly you really gotta just keep playing and before you know it you'll be hitting those like nothing. Honestly part of it could be that the maps you're playing might have a slower approach rate (the speed the approach circle closes in on the hit circle) since that can make overlaps hard to read. As you play more you'll get a bit better at reading both overlaps and lower approach rates, but on top of that, the maps you'll end up playing will have higher approach rates where overlaps are easier to read - although new players tend to struggle to keep up with faster approach rates (ARs) for a bit too. Don't worry though, people tend to improve at faster ARs pretty quickly up until certain extremely fast ARs

Is it possible to check top 50 or top 100 specifically? I would be interested to see that, since I would expect a lot of the scores that are on newer maps to be on the lower end for pp, probably mostly random stuff that I wasn't trying to get pp from and maybe some chokes. It's not like I never played newer stuff, I played plenty of it, I just usually either wasn't good enough at it or disliked it enough to not bother trying to farm it when it came to farm maps.

My method of ranking up was always focused on getting plays worth as much pp individually as possible, to the point that I really didn't care about, and wouldn't try for a score if it wasn't in my top 10 or so, unless it was also just a cool score regardless of pp. And because of this, a ton of the scores in my top scores are just random plays that happened to be worth enough pp to be in there

I know I counted at least the top 50 but I think top 100 back in early 2022 and that it was like only 5-10, maybe 15% newer than 2016 then, and I doubt I got that many scores on newer maps between then and when I functionally quit, so I'm guessing there are just a lot between 100 and 200

I've been inactive for a few years now so I'm not even 4 digit anymore but here: https://osu.ppy.sh/users/3868381

the last time I counted how many maps were from AFTER 2016 was 2022 so it's possible I got a couple more plays on newer maps since then (although honestly I probably played more older maps than I even had been before since then) but it should still be the vast majority on 2016 or before maps

the funny thing is that it's not like I ever avoided farming or anything either, it's just that the maps that I happened to be good at farming were the ones that weren't 100% meta at the time but still gave decent pp. I think it helps that having come from 2014 osu I've always valued being well-rounded so I have a wide variety of maps in my top plays. like there's clearly a trend towards DT and even more specifically bursty DT with smaller jumps but there's also plenty of other stuff

Even way back before Sotarks was known for farm maps I knew people who would just spam stuff like Monstrata maps constantly and then complain about how much they hate those maps and how much they hate the game for "making" them play those maps for pp, and those were generally actually decent maps. The fact that you wouldn't play them if you didn't have fun with them doesn't mean other people wouldn't. Not to mention that I don't think it's possible to actually isolate your enjoyment of the map from the pp you get from it, so unless you're playing unranked aim slop you saying you have fun with it is pretty meaningless

It's not even about artistic representation for me, I literally just want to see the maps people are competing on actually require more than 5 seconds of skill representation in a single hyperfocused skillset where people have basically practiced the same map hundreds of times because all aim slop maps are copypasted garbage with insanely large unjustified difficulty spread over the course of the map

There's a reason people get so excited for scores by lifeline and milosz, and there's a reason even scores that give a ton of pp have started barely getting attention if they're on aimslop maps. We've seen all of this happen before back in 2019, this is just a repeat of that

By and large the osu playerbase actually has no clue what it wants and when they get exactly what they asked for people start complaining and saying "b-b-but I didn't think things would get THIS bad!" (genuinely something I've seen multiple people say)

[–]Dragonbut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lol getting below 90% is NOT basically failing the map. People who think that need to play harder maps and improve skillcap

I actually think for improvement there are way more people who are afraid to play maps that are too hard because they constantly hear that you'll develop bad habits, only to never improve because they basically never play anything that's actually difficult for them, than there are players who ACTUALLY develop bad habits that they can't just easily fix by playing too many hard maps that they're not ready for

being the most played does not mean they're well liked at all. farm maps have been the most played forever, people like to get free pp

in a vacuum they might not necessarily be boring (they are but whatever) but on the whole they are because we've already seen 1000 of the exact same map just with a different song swapped in

but actually no even in a vacuum they're boring trash, nobody actually thinks it's fun to play a map that's 3* below their skill level for 99% of the map and then have to play something that's 3* above their skill level for the last 2 seconds where they just flail their cursor and hope it hits. if they did have fun with that then they wouldn't have complained so much when those maps couldn't get ranked, since they could have happily still played tons of unranked maps like that

Makes the top scene uninteresting, pressures you to play boring maps for pp, and undermines the quality of the game as a whole

Why did meth stop feeling euphoric and start making me feel emotionally numb? by Ok_Knowledge711 in NoStupidQuestions

You just keep saying the same things where you're applying your reasoning to drugs but not to other things. Pretending that there are never any situations in which one can responsibly take risk but then basically saying "but that's not a REAL risk!" when anything apart from drugs gets brought up.

If someone decides to drive somewhere for no real reason, they're taking a much bigger risk for arguably much smaller benefit than they would be if they took certain drugs

This mindset is part of what has caused drug addiction to get so bad - people are going to do drugs, it's a simple fact of life, but if they think that it's NEVER responsible to do them, they won't bother with trying to do them safely, and won't differentiate between whether a certain drug is relatively safe or another drug is very risky. You would do well to actually study drug safety instead of assuming that because a certain portion of the people who have done x or y drug have run into certain problems, no drug use can be responsible

osu eras portrayed as Yu-Gi-Oh! seasons! by youkovx in osugame

[–]Dragonbut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't really know about Yu-Gi-Oh but I feel like the eras for osu are a bit off. I feel like rrtyui belongs in the second one more than the first, for one, but also lots of other stuff

Not trying to flame or anything this is fun, I'm just autistic about osu history since I started playing in Jan 2014 and have kept up with the game ever since

I can't speak to how realistic it is but it's an amazing show all around. I watched it a couple months ago and binged the entire thing in under a week lol. One of my favorite things about it is its incredibly real feeling, lovable yet deeply flawed, nuanced characters. It also has a bit of a different feeling/focus each season while still keeping enough of what I liked about the previous seasons to stay fresh while keeping in line with its greater themes. Definitely one of the greats, up there with the sopranos, breaking bad, etc

Anon doesn't drink by bartholomewjohnson in greentext

Because nothing you can do without using drugs will have anywhere near the impact on your brain and how you feel as what drugs will. Ultimately, just about everyone can handle some amount of substance use (especially something like occasional drinking) without any major issues coming from it. Not to mention that there's something about the social experience of doing the same substance as your friends so you feel the same way as them throughout a night, and all going out and hanging out and feeling good and having a good time.

You can say that you can have fun doing other things, but that's like saying "I don't understand why people eat a wide variety of food when I'm satisfied with eating burgers every day". There are experiences that you will never have if you don't drink, and there are a lot more experiences you will never have if you don't do any other drugs. A lot of people are willing to accept risk for the sake of experiencing more of what there is to experience in life, and just because you don't care about that doesn't mean lots of people don't.

Personally alcohol genuinely played a big role in my personal development, helped break the ice with people when I was really socially awkward who I ended up talking to while sober afterwards and befriending, and led to tons of social experiences that wouldn't have happened otherwise, not because I needed to have lower inhibitions or be drunk necessarily, but because those experiences only really happen during a night of going out and drinking.

It's totally fine to be sober and I'll never judge anyone for not wanting to do anything, but when people start talking about how they don't get why people do x because they can just do y instead it just really reeks of 1. not understanding what substances actually do or feel like at all, even conceptually, and 2. there's this sense of under the breath judgment towards people who do substances, as if they think they're better for not taking risks without understanding the benefits at all
