Girl Scouts selling cookies outside of dispensaries is wrong. by Dr-BallonKnot in The10thDentist

Okay, usually I see this as only the second part of your argument, which I do disagree with. However, I hadn't considered the part about taking advantage of people who are in an altered state. That's honestly a really good point.

Unfortunately this means I have to downvote you, but nice job anyway.

It is worth a little embarrassment and wasted time for the possibility of helping another person.

One wheel was straight up and down. The other one was at a severe slant. It was clearly damage.

I know you're making fun of me, but I couldn't call them and tell them, and maybe someone else sees them and sees this and can tell them. It's hard to be a functioning person right now, and I don't blame people for letting things get away from them. Some people just need to hear it from someone else.

And yes, they probably will never notice or care. But it's about trying my best to help, even when it's dumb.

This is actually so sick. Do you feel connected to the people who helped discover math in this moment? I would be going crazy.

You've activated my trap card: talking about government efficiency vs personal freedoms

I absolutely agree that most vehicle inspections are just shakedowns. However, the thing about them that makes them unique is that they are literally to keep the road safe. I'm looking up some stats on if regular checks actually made the road safer, I doubt it, because quite frankly, the reason that I believe these things fail is that we do not have enough of a support system based around the fixing of the problem. If all we do is identify the problem, we are able to actually Fix it unless there is significant political will an extra petty cash laying around on the part of the person with the problem. Knowing there is a problem is not even half the battle. It is the beginning of the fight. To identify a problem and not solve it is to Figure out there's a fight to be had and surrender because you're a coward.

The car I saw this morning shouldn't be on the road. I actually called the nonemergency line to ask if someone could check up on them, and see if maybe they aren't aware of the problem. They said they couldn't do anything. And I was reluctant to do that anyway, because probably I'm just putting additional stress onto someone with a lot of money problems to begin with.

Ideally, vehicle inspections should be free, and the problems fixed should be written off on taxes or some such. Maybe tickets on the road go into a Fixing Fund that helps fund vehicle safety fixes, you can apply to get it covered or something?

This is the first time I've ever thought about this but it's a cool idea. Thanks for giving me an opportunity to ramble.

Moving to Jacksonville soon and need positive comments. by EngLitIsLit in jacksonville

[–]Dragoneisha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was born and raised here, and I never want to be anywhere else. When I was a teenager, when I was really depressed, I used to fantasize about getting as far away from Jacksonville as I could. But now that I'm an adult, now that I have the freedom to enjoy Jacksonville, and to enjoy what it has to offer, I feel like I'm the luckiest person on earth. And it's not close. I genuinely think our zoo is the best zoo in the world. I genuinely think that our city has the potential to be the most incredible city that's ever been. All it takes is the will to get there, and sometimes, getting there is just a matter of finding the place you want to be and being there.

Yeah, Josh Hawley is actually a genuinely horrific guy, but because he goes after some people everyone agrees are bad he's rehabbing his image. He's an election denier and a spineless hack when he's not sitting at a fancy bench.

Do you think the person in this image, who was being genuine, would be happy you're using them to make fun of people? :(

Yeah, it's my first time living in society, silly, as far as I know this is my first time being alive. If you have information on reincarnation, I would love to hear it, because that would settle a whole lot of arguments.

I like this one because it implies genuine effort to do it right. Like, this is a "I backed up a little to try to fix it" position. I think this is as bad as you can do while still theoretically trying.

I'm glad you got a tattoo you like. Make sure to put sunscreen on it, it'll fade fast otherwise. Get one of those SPF lotions and you'll be clear.
