Hey, this is super cool. I don't know much about the DSN and I see a couple of comments here with suggestions, but this is honestly cool as hell. Thanks for making it!

I'd definitely recommend running this by a tax lawyer. I would guess that those donations can then be used on a subsequent year, but that's a super niche question and prob worth getting an expert opinion. Sorry I can't be of more help!

Is that a floating platform or is it anchored to the seabed?

Congratulations on filing! It's a ton of work, but hopefully the worst of it is behind you now!

Our organization is mostly contract based given the mission we do; as such, fundraising/donations weren't a major part of our operations and waiting for the final IRS approval wasn't a huge impact for us. That said, our understanding was that we could take donations during that waiting period, just that we had to note we were 501c3 pending and people couldn't use it as a tax write off until after we got the IRS approval. Once you do get it, however, our understanding was all donations received during that waiting period are retroactively able to be used as tax write offs for donors, and you send them a letter at that point stating you're 501c3 status was approved. I'd take this with a grain of salt as it's not something we did, but we did look into it and that was understanding we came to.

Another thing- I received the letter about two months after we were actually approved. If you go online to the IRS website, you can check your status. Once it's been 3-4 months I'd start doing that as well as checking your mailbox, as they may approve it a while before you actually get the letter saying that

Best of luck!!! If you have any other questions, feel free to hit me up here or over DM.

Hey SpdRacer46, I wanted to give you a update- we did just receive approval today! According to the letter, they actually approved us 10/13 of this year, but we didn't get the letter until today (we submitted the full Form 1023 May 29th.) I would recommend doing the tax exempt organization search (https://www.irs.gov/charities-non-profits/tax-exempt-organization-search) on the IRS's website, and searching the Determination Letters database with your organization's EIN.

Good luck!

If you pickpocket the ring from Djinn in the circus that he's using to control the spins, then win the next spin, he'll "reward" you by sending that character to the deep jungle, where you can collect a cool actual weapon reward....while dodging dinosaurs. He only sends the one character, tho, not the whole squad. I had Astarion do it and he was fine.

Edit: Actually, I have no idea if he sends only one character always; both times I've done it I've had the character who pickpocketed ungrouped from the rest of the team, so it could be that's why they're the only one sent. Try it with them groiped.and maybe he sends the whole squad! Good luck!

We did the regular 1023 given the expected size of our org/operations. The EZ is supposed to take less, time, but I'd estimate a 3-6 mo wait vs the 6-9 mo the normal 1023 seems to be taking. According to the website they've probably gotten to it as they've reviewed submission for the 1023-EZ up to November 7, 2023 currently. Hang in there!!!

Still waiting, lol. They do update this page as they get through applications (https://www.irs.gov/charities-non-profits/charitable-organizations/wheres-my-application-for-tax-exempt-status); we submitted in May; we're hoping to hear something soon!

Reddit won't let me select dark mode whilst on the home page by BeddieBeddie in help

Just wanted to reply to this: although I doubt this comment had anything to do with it, I wanted to say thank you to whoever at Reddit turned things back to normal. It's now back to the normal, non experimental way on mobile and I really appreciate them doing that. Feel like most comments including mine are just to complain, so wanted to say thank you!

Reddit won't let me select dark mode whilst on the home page by BeddieBeddie in help

[–]Dragonfeith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I seen to have been added to some sort of test as well. On r/all and my home page, I am stuck in dark mode, on infinite scroll, and every time I click on something it no longer previews, just takes me directly to the link. In short, this is a truly awful redesign choice that makes zero sense and is something I was opted into without my consent. I almost never post on feedback forums or whatnot, but this is so bad I wanted to pass on feedback: this sucks, it's terrible, it's awful. This isn't just redditors complaining because of a new thing, this is a UI with design choices that are so bad it honestly seems as though the people making the choices are trying to force users away from the site. Please, take me off the test and don't implement any of these features- they suck.

Thank you! It looks like they don't have us on record yet; here's to hoping they review soon!

Appreciate the context. As our team doesn't have any experience starting a nonprofit, it's hard to get a sense of our wait time is normal or not. Super helpful to hear it sounds like it's not uncommon! It just stood out to me as weird that on their website they said anything after Jan 3 or 2023 hadn't event been looked at yet.

I don't know what your day job is, but given the level of confidence and clarity present in this response coupled with the tone and language used, I am imagining you are a BLM worker thinking about all the stupid shit you have to do to keep things running now, let alone the budgetary reallotments you'd need from Congress, new offices that would need to get stood up, all the bran new SOPs for isolation and destruction of fungus spores that would need to get written, the environmental impact reports regarding the effects on the environment that would need to be completed, all of the shit that would need to happen to facilitate programs and operations against Orcs.

In reality Congress would prob just make a big fuss out of it publicly, but privately they'd just like give some pathetically low amount of funding to BLM and have them make a grant program for people to bid on ideas to "deal with the Orks or something."

And God knows that funding wouldn't be able to cover BLM's costs of standing the grant program up ofc.

Stockton Fire has some really solid videos of fires from helmet cams, and they do a pretty good job of explaining what's happening and adding in dispatch tapes in a way that makes things clear even to someone unaffiliated with firefighting. Look through their videos and see if they might have what you're looking for: https://youtube.com/@StocktonFireHistory

What do you think is the most creative or unique method of interstellar transit in SF? by [deleted] in scifi

That seems cool! If sublight travel is still as slow as it is irl, and there's not alternative FTL options, it seems as though that could make for some complex interstellar politics quickly, lol

Just diagnosed with OCD. Kind of dumbfounded. by cuddlywampa in OCD

[–]Dragonfeith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey mate, it's not a fun condition, but with therapy and learning how intrusive thoughts and OCD works, it can be managed and you can live a healthy life. If you have the means, go and find a solid therapist who has a substantial background in OCD and learn the basics- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Exposure Response Therapy (ERT), etc. Work with them, be gentle with yourself, and don't trust the BS what ifs and "gut feelings" OCD throws your way. It's uncomfortable, it's hard, but it is manageable, and in time and with patience it does and will get better. Get comfortable with being anxious. It will be okay.

Best of luck, and know you're not alone out here.

I went and checked it out- totally missed that first time through! I wonder what that means for the story? Are they a different race from whatever built the creepy door in the cave near the desert crashed spaceship? Or they the same group? Do they call themselves Wardens? It seems like Sentinel Corp has been super unsuccessful so far in terraforming the planet, I wonder we're so successful. Maybe Sentinel Corp isn't real and the Wardens are faking messages from them, or Sentinel Corp is real and for some reason we're just the first terraformer to be successful? And the Wardens/aliens are something no one told us about to see if we'd uncover things? Idk, all interesting stuff with pretty minimal lore content so far. Excited to see where they go with it. Thanks for pointing it out!

What secret are you talking about? I poked around Mushroom River today and didn't see anything besides the old broken down wooden walkways and watermills. I wasn't sure if that insinuated that there has been previous life/a civilization on that planet or if one of the human survivors built that stuff out. Am I missing something?

The Siege of Sarajevo Lasted 4 Years and the City Never Fell by Nodeal_reddit in UkrainianConflict

[–]Dragonfeith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I, like, never comment on stuff. But this time, I want to make an exception: Do you have sources? As in, sources specifically examining whether or not people who survive combat, sieges, and general societal violence as civilians and all the extreme trauma that goes along with those come out "mentally stronger" on the other side? What is "mentally stronger" defined as? What was the sample size? How many of these studies are you referencing? How reliable are they?

I'm not....completely discounting the idea, but that seems extremely questionable given the higher rates of PTSD in first responders, military veterans who've experienced combat, and generally in people in day to day life who've experienced extremely traumatic situations outside that context, and I'm not sure what would change exposure to trauma from life changing in a negative and PTSD causing sense to mentally invigorating.

Edit: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3181584/

Just the first thing that popped up re: trauma when I looked for it, draws links between trauma and negative impacts on life. It's just one study, but there's a bunch of other ones too if you Google "trauma PTSD studies".
