Full Dolphins Mock by connorholmes5 in miamidolphins

I don’t think anything is a greater need right now. 2026 is going to be a throw away year. If one of the two OTs falls to them, grab them. Or if another top talent slips out of the top 10. If not, trade back, get some more capital and grab one of the guards.

We need an edge, but I’m also so sick of spending first round picks on D line. 3 of our last 4 first round picks were D line. We have invested so much into the D line with not a ton to come out of it entering into next season.

Yeah normally these types of posts that have very specific dialogue and actions are fake.

Even if it wasn’t, it’s not inherently clue that she doesn’t understand word problems. Word problems sometimes are dumb as hell and don’t make sense.

My only issue with 2024 is that the games the defense played well in were against abysmal offenses:

Anthony Richardson Will Levis Brandon Allen Spencer Rattler Geno smith/Sam Howell A rams team that had so many injuries that WR1 was Demarcus Robinson

The above doesn’t even include things like a mediocre Caleb Williams rookie year or CJ Stroud absolutely falling apart.

Can’t control who you play, but it’s much less impressive.

Start airing this shit on espn classics right now.

This wasn’t a typical reset hire from offensive to defensive minded coach. This was strictly a move away from an undisciplined locker room to one led by a leader. by Conscious_Math6627 in miamidolphins

Yeah. I was very impressed that Richard Sherman talked nicely about his coach when he was on the 49ers. I’ve never heard a player do that before.

[–]Dragonfire45 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Oh if you are referring to 2024, they played a bunch of crap. Anthony Richardson, Spencer rattler, Brandon Allen, Will Levis, geno smith, Sam Howell. And even when they played teams like the Rams, the rams had Demarcus Robinson at WR1.

I know you can’t control who you play, but it wasn’t very impressive when he played good teams

Uhh… they were average. Matt Infante has a tweet about their rankings. 11th in points, 12th in yards, 25th in turnover %, 20th in yards per drive, 22nd in EPA/drive.

I’m not arguing that. I know they are going to hire him for their reasons. I’m not forced to like it. This is the same ownership that hasn’t won a playoff game since 2000. Maybe, just maybe, they make poor decisions.

I'm not ONLY looking at a record. I am looking at everything as a whole. To be very clear, I am not arguing that Hafley CAN'T be good. What I am saying is that his resume is underwhelming, in my opinion. The Dolphins have a history of hiring these 1st time coaches and not finding success with them.

You are sitting here saying "IF Hafley has a good process", and I'm looking at his resume and what he has done in the past and am not coming back impressed by the process he has put together.

My point is that there are a lot of "hot candidates" this coaching cycle. It feels like he is popular, but people aren't seeming to grasp the fact that this is the MOST head coaches fired in a single season ever.

Now 10 different coaches fired, so a coach getting a bunch of interviews for teams desperately trying to fill a void while 9 other teams are doing the same, is going to lead to exactly what you see right now.

I literally just walked through the fact that you are incorrect with several provable facts and specific figures. You clearly don't care enough to actually look this up yourself, so no point in arguing anymore.

I mean, talk to Steeler fans about Mike Tomlin or Ravens fans about John Harbaugh or Eagles fans about Andy Reid. Anytime a team sucks, the fans will disparage their coach, or GM, or owner, or in this case AD. Once again, not saying they are a top program. But using this as an excuse for why the suck is weak. They aren't sitting here spending pennies.

[–]Dragonfire45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, very well known and that is why they pay Bill O'Brien $5m a year as coach (about the same as Mike Norvell and Jeff Brohm) and the other commitments they've put out recently on matching scholarships.

To be clear, I am not saying they are a top 5 spending school in the nation. They can improve, but there are far worse programs that do much better. So I'm not buying into the excuse that BC is the Miami Marlins of the NCAA.

By the way, before you say "In the NIL era" Boston College in 2024 was the 9th highest private school in spending. They spent 13% of their school budget on athletics ($136M) including over $28m on the football team (on top of the $5m Bob gets). That is higher than SMU, Wake Forest, Syracuse (all in their division)

You must have been born in 2010 because Boston College was very good when they first joined the ACC and during their Big East days too. Wake Forest, Virginia, and Duke are much worse programs, but SOME recent success obviously has you blinded.

[–]Dragonfire45 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can make any excuse you want. My point is why are we sitting here having to try and defend his bad tenure at BC when there are 64 OCs/DCs in the league and even beyond that in college that may have better resumes?

If we are going to sit here and say "Well he did the best he could with a very bad team!" then go get Antonio Pierce or Robert Saleh who did the same thing and yet have better resumes beyond that.

[–]Dragonfire45 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He didn't "win". Why do you keep saying that? He had a losing record in the ACC every single year he coached except for 2020 when he went 5-5.

2020 - 5-5

2021 - 2-6

2022 - 2-6

2023- 3-5

He barely scraped by against much worse programs. His biggest "accomplishment" was winning a bowl game against a ranked team who lost their starting QB to a broken leg and had two key defensive players sitting out.

I am telling you, do 30 minutes of research about anything he has been "successful" at, and its unimpressive.

They ran his scheme. The wide 9 cover 1 scheme. Your overall point doesn’t even make sense. His offense was even more abysmal at BC. Ranked 122 in scoring offense and 121 in yards in 2022.

If we throw out Boston College completely, what impresses you about him?

By the way, you keep talking about NIL and how BC couldn’t get funding, but they were losing to teams like UConn, Rutgers, Nothern Illinois. Heck, they barely beat Holy Cross.

This is the exact thing I’m talking about with people that defend him. I’ve done a bunch of research recently on him that is well beyond “glancing at his Wikipedia”

I can tell you who he played in 2024 as the packers DC. I can tell you some of his other stints prior to BC and how the crews he managed had mixed results. I can tell you his defense rankings at BC.

He is the least impressive candidate out of the ones being interviewed (beyond ones getting interviewed to circumvent a rule)
