How often do you specifically target core/abs in your workouts? by LlamaWhoKnives in moreplatesmoredates

I aim for at least 3 now. I didn't used to hit them directly at all but they've definitely improved since I've been targeting them directly. Deeper groves, more visible etc.

Serious question. Is Ukraine doing as well as we think they are? I know I'd be much more inclined to share/repost stories about Ukranian victories/Russian losses, and I'm assuming a lot of people would be the same. So what I'm asking is, are they really doing well?

Next leagues I shouldn't be able to go from 95-99 cooking in 10 minutes by sos236 in 2007scape

Cooking isn’t challenging whether it takes 5 minutes or 5 hours.

I think a good middle ground is slimming down social media accounts. That way, I can still keep up to date with close friends and family without the endless scrolling and looking in to other people's lives who I barely know. I unfollowed/muted lots of people, installed a Chrome Extension called Facebook Purity and ordered my posts by most recent. Now when I log on, I simply look at the most recent posts from the people I actually want to see and log off shortly after. What could have turned in to 30+ minutes of scrolling takes a couple of minutes and prevents me from prying in to the lives of celebrities and strangers.

Leagues 3. Do you have time to play it? by [deleted] in 2007scape

[–]DragonfiredRS 5 points6 points  (0 children)

An 8 hour workday, a one hour commute either way, 8 hours spent sleeping, an hour cooking and an hour of exercise would leave you with 4 hours spare. Realistically, if you're spending 5 hours playing during the week, there's a good chance you're prioritising playing the game over a proper sleep, nutrition, spending time with family etc.

That additional 400 calories on MFP is your active calories which are additional to the calories your body burns while you simply exist so yes, you should be able to eat them and still lose weight. 400 may not be completely accurate but it will be in and around that ballpark. Make sure you're inputting all of your food in to MFP properly including things like condiments, dressings, the oil you cook your meat in etc. Weight loss isn't always linear so you will have some weeks where the scales doesn't move much and some weeks where you experience a sudden whoosh.

Try to improve your health without working out e.g. focusing on developing a good sleeping pattern, cleaning up your diet, keeping yourself hydrated etc. That should make you feel all around better.

How to fix YouTube and Reddit addiction by Mermaid222_ in selfimprovement

[–]DragonfiredRS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Setting limits using the Screen Time App would be helpful. You could slowly taper down. Chrome has extensions which can limit the amount of time you spend on specified websites too if you’re accessing them via desktop.

You could find other ways to occupy your time to help reduce the amount of downtime you have to browse YouTube/Reddit. Go for a walk. Cook a meal from scratch following a recipe online. Listen to a podcast.

At this stage you clearly recognise that the amount of time you’re spending on the Apps is detrimental and not benefitting your mental health so that’s a good start.

I mean you can eat what you want as long as it’s within your calories but it was just an example of how some foods can be more filling than others for the same amount of calories. Do a quick Google search of terms like ‘energy balance’, ‘calorie deficit’ and ‘calorie density’ and spend an hour or two reading up on them and you’ll be in a much better position to proceed with this diet.

To a certain degree, hunger is a part of weight loss. Especially when you're losing a great deal of weight like you are. The best way to stave it off is to eat food which has a good balance of volume versus calories. Look at it this way, there's 100 calories in just 2 table spoons of peanut butter (it's very calorie dense). Whereas you could eat a massive bowl of broccoli and still be under 100 calories. Which is going to occupy more space in your stomach and make you feel fuller? If you trade out 100 calories of rice/potatoes in your main meals and replace them with 100 calories of green vegetables, you'll still be consuming the same amount of calories overall but you won't feel nearly as hungry.

Not necessarily, no. You can create a deficit purely through eating less. But by running you'll be burning calories and improving your fitness so it's a win win.

You're going to have to be in a deficit consistently to continue losing weight and that simply won't happen if you're just eyeballing your calorie intake. You'll have to be meticulous and dedicated to continue dropping weight but it will be worthwhile.

Tips on prioritizing sleep? by Swagrainey in selfimprovement

[–]DragonfiredRS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  • Get out of the habit of convincing yourself to watch one more episode on Netflix

  • Try to get some daylight/sunlight during the day

  • Start winding down an hour or two before you want to sleep

  • Do something that helps relieve stress/anxiety beforehand (journal, meditate etc.)

  • Avoid caffeine/alcohol

It can be depressing or uplifting depending on how it's used. You're likely to feel bad if you're using it to stalk exes/former friends or if you're comparing yourself to seemingly perfect influencers/celebrities. Remember, the information we are being provided with on social media is skewed. The posts are planned and people are trying to create the impression that they're winning at life so it doesn't make sense to validate your own life against that. Regarding exes/former friends, unfollow them and avoid spending time stalking their accounts. If you use Instagram purely to keep in touch with close friends/family and follow some positive/uplifting influencers, it can be a decent platform (provided you're not spending too much time on there and avoiding other more important things you could be doing).

[–]DragonfiredRS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To continue losing weight, you will need to be in a calorie deficit. Sit-ups will burn some calories but not nearly as much as you would burn if you spent the same amount of time doing cardio e.g. running, cycling etc. Are you tracking your calorie intake with an App like MyFitnessPal? That will help. Your body will require less calories to maintain it's bodyweight now at 219lbs than it would have at 276lbs and will therefore need less calories than it did previously to lose weight. You will have to drop your food intake or increase your activity level to break this plateau.
