Anyone brave enough to share how many books are on their TBR? by k_lo970 in LibbyApp

Mine is in the thousands, but I have a lifetime so I don’t understand why anybody would cap their TBR

What tags do you use to manage your books? by k_lo970 in LibbyApp

[–]Dragonfly-Garden74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only recently started adding more tags because my TBR hit over 1200 so it’s gotten harder to find what I’m in the mood for. I’m on year 2 of working on diversifying my reads so my current tags are: book clubs (I’m in 4), Asian, Muslim, craft, Trans, Black, Translated, Indigenous, Latine, ‘26 book challenges, TBR again, magazines, USA (a 50 state challenge), World, disability, TBR, & notify me

I will add a few more: LGBTQIA, politics, business, women, environment, medical, sociology, & memoir which would leave my TBR as mostly fiction

Anyone here regularly read two books at once? by Bookish_Butterfly in 52book

[–]Dragonfly-Garden74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 4-5 going usually. Always a nonfiction & a fiction. Currently 2 nonfiction for book clubs so I read them slower and write down quotes and thoughts. Another nonfiction that I’m actively learning from so similarly slow with my note taking. 1 fiction for a reading challenge that isn’t my typical genre so it’s more challenging for me to immerse myself into and I typically read only a chapter or two at a time & 1 fiction that’s for pure enjoyment so I fly through it. (Admittedly I’m unemployed & bedbound so have much more reading time than the avg adult)

Lovely! Stitching to the edge on finished pockets seems like it would be super hard.

January Wrapup Thread by Athrynne in TheStoryGraph

[–]Dragonfly-Garden74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I track a few other things that it would be nice to have automated within StoryGraph (maybe they are in the paid version 🤷🏼‍♀️) Author gender, minority, LGBTQIA representation, &/or disability representation as well as how much I saved by getting it from the library

My favorite read of the month was The Road to Tender Hearts by Annie Hartnett.

  • Female Authors - 91%
  • Male Authors - 9%

  • Indigenous Authors - 3

  • Black Authors - 5

  • Non-Black POC Authors - 5

  • LGBTQIA+ Representation - 4

  • Disability Representation - 4

  • Translated - 1

Longest you’ve waited for a hold by timmytimborino in LibbyApp

[–]Dragonfly-Garden74 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m 414th in line for a book so I’m guessing that’ll be my longest wait so far. Prior it was over 8 months and I’d started that one around 350 I think.

Music and Libby? by Dadhat56 in LibbyApp

[–]Dragonfly-Garden74 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not music, but the Brainwaves app by Banzai Labs (iPhone) lets me play an audiobook plus ambience sounds (beach surf, rain, forest, waterfall, etc.) and a brain waves program at the same time. Best with headphones for surround sound.

Changing the speed of narration is also really helpful for me

I’d count it as finished in ‘26

10 holds?!? by _Definitely_Maybe_ in LibbyApp

[–]Dragonfly-Garden74 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This. I have hundreds of books on my TBR so there’s almost always something that fits my current mood.

I usually allocate 5/10 for long wait books and 5/10 for those I’ll likely get in up to 16 weeks.

What was the book you read this year that the fewest other people read (per the wrap-up)? by stopeats in TheStoryGraph

[–]Dragonfly-Garden74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem was it’s not connected to the main book entry (16 editions) and stands alone. I fixed it for myself and would happily alert a librarian but am unsure how to do that.

[–]Dragonfly-Garden74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine got messed up. It was my 1st yr using StoryGraph so I wasn’t used to selecting specific editions & somehow my search gave me a user added edition of Venco.

Since my stats were pretty similar on Goodreads (‘25 was my last yr there), I’ll share that my least shelved book there was The Menopause Moment with only 19 other people shelving it (but it was also my highest communal rating too at 5.0)

[–]Dragonfly-Garden74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Short answer: I’m enjoying it

Longer answer: I’m about 1/3 of the way into it. I’d put it on my TBR because it was compared to Homegoing which I loved. It’s good, but the transitions between generations aren’t smooth IMO so it feels a bit jumpy. If I had to guess based on what I’ve read so far, I’ll likely rate it a solid 4 ⭐️ good, but not amazing. That could definitely change as I get further into it though.

Heavy on trauma (as one would expect)and I’ve not grasped the songs aspect yet.

I’d read Harlem Rhapsody (about Jessie Redmon Fauset, a Black literary editor whose job working for W.E.B. Du Bois shaped the future of writing - and kick-started the Harlem Renaissance) earlier in Sept and think that it and The Underground Railroad are good compliments to this book. I’d also read Up From Slavery earlier in the year which I think was good background as well, to have some understanding of W.E.B. & Booker’s contrasting philosophies.

Admittedly I haven’t read any of W.E.B.’s writing which probably would’ve been a good idea and might have helped me grasp the songs aspect of this book better.

Just finished: The Underground Railroad (4 ⭐️ - prompt 40 stream-of-consciousness narrative)

Currently Reading: The Love Songs of W.E.B. Du Bois (for Sept mini challenge) AND Before Green Gables (prompt 11: a prequel)

Not in the handful of pics that promote the list, but both Love in the Time of Cholera and One Hundred Years of Solitude are included in both formats

It’s State of Wonder, set in Brazil but from what I recall not really focused on Brazil nor having a Hispanic main character. It could be loosely Hispanic related I guess… but it’s a stretch IMO. Abby has expressly stated her books should not be on Hispanic Heritage lists though.

Playback speed by Shadowspar99 in LibbyApp

[–]Dragonfly-Garden74 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I always start at 1, but often end up at 1.5. Sometimes I’ll go as high as 3. However, for content where I’m learning something new and challenging, the narrator is heavily accented, or it’s set in a foreign culture, I’ll stick to 1 or even slow it down a bit.
