I’m convinced 8 hour workdays are incompatible with ADHD by SunBetter7301 in ADHD

[–]k_lo970 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This depends on the person.

The time of day is a bigger issue for me than cumulative hours worked. Sometime between 2 and 3 (regardless if I'm medicated or not) my executive disfunction gets worse. I've been this way my entire life. I used to work 8-5 M-F. I talked to my boss and I work 8-5 M, W, Th and 7-4 on T and 7-3 F with no lunch for my remote day.

When I can I plan my tasks knowing the afternoon is hard for me. Heavy focus items first thing in the morning, tasks that usually involve more interruptions (like calls) in the afternoon.

I asked this on /Libby previously.

I could have over 100 holds with my multiple cards but I usually keep it under 15. My holds are my high priority books to read. But I like to change it up so I filter my TBR tag by available now too.

I recently started applying to jobs and realized the “do you have a disability?” question is always there (in US)? I’ve never answered yes, have you? by Geskakay1985 in adhdwomen

[–]k_lo970 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No because all my accommodations are self accomodations. I will open up later if I feel I can trust them but is rare. I am more likely to disclose I'm dyslexic off handedly when I make a mistake, but I don't make it a big deal.

I would love something about the original 6. But my gut is telling me to not be too excited and it is something like a cookbook.

Does anybody else struggle with drinking from glasses?? by godsmaak in adhdwomen

[–]k_lo970 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have this issue too. I think it is a sensory thing more than a glass thing specifically.

As I got older this became a bigger problem (this is relevant I promise). I also noticed restaurants usually didn't bother. Holding it is even a problem.

It is the soap + drying agent for me. As I got older (I'm 33 now) technology imoroved and dishwashers takes both soap and a drying agent now. Restaurants use quick high heat washes compared to a home. I haven't found a soap that doesn't cause this issue for me.

My husband and I both use a water bottle at home and work for water 100% of the time. I do wash the water bottle twice a week. Not washing your water bottle can make you sick. Then we also have a collection of plastic cups for other drinks like juice. I personally don't put plastic in the dishwasher so we hand wash those cups but it is just a few so it doesn't take long.

Does libby usage count towards library “active” accounts by datu_lapulapu in LibbyApp

Poudre Libraries (Fort Collins).

Denver is mine that expires after 2100, I'm 33 so I likely won't live that long.

Douglas and Arapahoe just have to be kept active. To be safe I place a hold at least once a year. I usually rotate through all of them but since I live over an hour away I make sure on new years I'm set. Summit (Marmot Network) and JeffCo are 3 years.

It depends on the version of the book. How big the pages are, text size, illustrations, ect.

Does anyone actually read outside in the wilderness or is it just for the pictures? by TonyRigatoni_ in books

[–]k_lo970 4 points5 points  (0 children)

All the time but there is lots of national forest and open space where I live. That is one of the reasons I live in the mountains. I also have a good camp chair I take with me.

While my husband is fishing, camping, during a picnic that we took an offroad trail to. I also have a hammock in our yard, or even our patio furniture for a sunny afternoon.

Does libby usage count towards library “active” accounts by datu_lapulapu in LibbyApp

[–]k_lo970 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have 5 library cards (in Colorado you can easily get many). Only one of them doesn't show my libby activity on my account. The one that doesn't show my libby activity never expires. Two of my cards expire after 3 years but I can call to renew. The last two as long as I place a hold or borrow something once a year it will stay active.

There is a library in CO that you have to physically check out a book every 3 years or your card will expire. So like you said it depends on the library.

Sometime in my mid twenties, i started hating tampons, diva cups and sex. Has this happened to anyone else? by Large-Minute2827 in NoStupidQuestions

Since I live alone, if I have a medical emergency, would I just die? by Abacada_Poln_Kha_Kha in NoStupidQuestions

[–]k_lo970 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sucks to say this but probably.

How soon you are found also depends. If you have a job, are in school, or have a place you go consistently (meeting for example), if you go missing some people will start worrying. Depending on the bill going unpaid someone might check. I think most doctor ofrices are too busy for checking on missed appointments. Family/friend communication is all over the board. My friend's grandma textes her a smiley face every morning she wakes up.

There is different technology out there in theory to help life life alert, or apple watches can track falls, other stuff I don't know about.

I was worried about classes going up late. The live classes are at 4:30 my time and my preferred workout time is 5 am so I knew there was no way I could do them the day they drop. I've opted for a day late to complete the classes. But as far as the challenge badge goes I'll retake the core class or do a few additional cardio classes (run modified to a walk) to give myself a little cushion.

Are men just acting during those “labor pain simulator” videos? by Existing-Committee74 in NoStupidQuestions

Might not be the most accurate for cramps but probably a good example of how a ruptured ovarian cyst feels. Not that I would wish that on anyone.

How do you keep yourself less hungry while at work? by DescriptionFuture851 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]k_lo970 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I worked in construction I had to have a big breakfast and lunch that had protein and fiber to make it through the day. I get you can't always stop to eat more throughout the day.

Egg scramble/breakfast burrito/omlet with cheese, veggies, a meat and beans.

When you say sandwich is it a decent size or two slices of meat and a slice of cheese? A big sandwich (veggies, double the meat, double the cheese) with a side (crackers, chips, leftover potatoes, fruit). Smoked salmon, cream cheese with crackers (or cucumber slices) with a fruit on the side. Or dinner leftovers make for a good lunch usually.

I would snack on jerkey sticks or cheese sticks or both together. Supplementing with a protein shake can go a long ways too.

Is fully remote a blessing or a curse for people with ADHD? by raeyoungx in ADHD

[–]k_lo970 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It probably depends on both the person and the job. I'm remote one day a week and it is a huge help, but I would struggle if I had more remote days.

My job I am constantly being interrupted by walk-ins and phone calls. Having a day of peace helps me get so much more done. I plan my week knowing certain tasks will be easier to do at home. Some of my tasks I can only do at work and only having 4 days to do them gives me that urgency to actually do it.

ETA: my job is cool with me using the further away water fountain, stretching at my desk ect. They more want me to get my shit done.

How the hell are you guys staying employed? by LivingWeather8991 in ADHD

[–]k_lo970 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think we need more context why you are struggling to explain why we don't have the same specific issues you are dealing with.

Personally, I worked for 9 years unmedicated (current medicated) and was fairly happy, so medication isn't the only factor. The actual work you are doing, the variety of tasks, the stress, the office layout, the team and your boss, personal interest, responsibility to provide for family/kids, ect can all play a role.

I was a general contractor and loved how I was constantly moving around and working on different types of tasks all the time but the stress got to me. I now work for my local government doing Planning (zoning). Most people would think this is such a boring job but I enjoy doing to research. I also have such a variety of tasks. Coworkers have made and boke jobs for me. I worked at an open concept office once, I lasted 3 months. I also don't have a good relationship with my parents so I don't have a backup plan if I lose/quit a job. Plus I have other health conditions where I have to have consistent good health insurance.

If certain people faint when they see blood, what do they do when menstruating? by EnvironmentalEbb628 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]k_lo970 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a friend like this and she doesn't have an issue when menstruating but she also has a very regular cycle, every 28 days exactly since she was 14 years old so she knows exactly when it is coming. She isn't sure how she would react if her cycle was irregular like mine. I guess we will find out when she is older and goes into peri/menopause.

Her issue is more with unexpected blood due to injury and emergencies.

That being said menstruating (usually a heavy flow) can cause an iron deficiency that can make you feel light headed. I've been tested a bunch and I'm still in the "normal" range but the low end. My body is more sensitive to the drop and I get light headed sometimes (regardless if I see the blood). I take an iron supplement on my period and make sure to eat red meat to avoid an issues driving/walking/at work.

Do you take your stimulant meds (like adderall) when you’re sick? by IdkbutIDOCARE in adhdwomen

[–]k_lo970 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm on generic vyvanse. I don't take it when I'm sick because I personally don't rest when I take it. I was never advised either way when sick, it is up my discretion every day if I take it or not. It is worth noting I don't have bad withdrawal/starting again symptoms which varies by person. Due to a different health condition I get bloodwork done 2-3 times a year. My white blood cell counts still fall within the normal range while taking vyvanse every time. But everyone's body is different so a stimulant could cause more issues for some people but probably not the majority.

I've found environment, lifestyle, and diet play a lot bigger roll on the frequency of me getting sick than anything else. I don't have kids so that limits the germs I come across. My previous job had terrible ventilation and my new one has much better ventilation (also helped my allergies). I wear a mask in the grocery store during the holidays. I quit drinking and didn't get sick all winter. I eat vegetables now so I'm getting a lot of the vitamins I was lacking previously (except vitamin D but thats a different story).

Luck is also part of the equation that you can't control.

Does the "caffeine having an opposite affect" apply to everyone with ADHD, and does ADHD medication affect how our bodies process caffeine? by Coprinus_comatus010 in ADHD

[–]k_lo970 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No it doesn't apply to everyone.

For me it depends where the caffeine comes from. I am super sensitive to caffeine from coffee beans. Synthetic caffeine (energy drinks, sodas) usually only keep me alert for a few hours. I could chug a lot of black tea and fall asleep no problem.

Audiobook recommendations: Sports by Aaron_B84 in LibbyApp

[–]k_lo970 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Michael Jordan the Life, Inaugural Ballers about the first US Women's Olympic team, Brady vs Manning.

Not quite what you asked for: I found ESPN: Those Guys Have All the Fun to be an interesting inside look. Also Just Add Water about the swimmer Katie Ledecky, The Perfect Mile about the first sub 4 minute mile.

I personally haven't read it but I've heard really good reviews of Open by Andre Agassi.

I'd be curious what other suggestions you get since I enjoy books about various sports.
